Posted in: G7 should declare 'no first use' of nuclear weapons: ex-Hiroshima mayor See in context
The thought is nice but the reality is that it will never happen. The best course of action is for all Nation's that have nuclear weapons is to meet once a year and discuss the horrors of such weaponry and how to avoid them ever being used again. After taking Crimea, Putin promised there would be no more aggression against Ukraine. The World has seen how that turned out. Likewise with North Korean and missile test towards Japan, after the promises while President Trump was in Office, the missiles flew once again since Dementia Joe has been in Office. 'Declaring' a no-first use is a non-starter, great wishful idea, but will never happen. Government's change, people change.

Posted in: ChatGPT turns to manga in 'One Piece' author experiment See in context
The dual edged sword of technology. There was a recent story of ChatGBT writing books and putting authors out of business. In the long run, A.I. can't replace the human touch that uses feelings/emotions that are put into words/pictures/art. It will be like reading a newspaper article, bland with just facts/lies.
Here's the other side of the sword, I wish someone could take ChatGBT and tweak it enough to translate Japanese into English so non-Japanese English speakers would have the ability to watch JDramas/Movies and not have to rely upon some independent 'subber' to hopefully subtitle a show. Some have tried using 'Google Translate' but that is horrible and misses the proper translation of words.
In my humble opinion, Eiichiro Oda should take request for ideas from long time fans as to storylines and direction of One Piece. Every person reaches a point where our creativity begins to lag and a fresh set of eyes/ideas on a common subject/goal often helps.

Suicide is the worst thing a person can do, especially a healthy person. The scars it leaves behind are never healed. I wish these people who want to kill themselves would consider that. If you want to die....go to the Middle East and fight radical Islam, you will die, but you also might find a will and reason to live. So many people are depressed due to lack of money and not living the life of the Kardashians, them and that 1% of the World's population, are just that, the one percent, do you really want to be like them or is it just the money??!
We watched "Wakamonotachi 2014" this past weekend, what a great show that was! You can be poor, and be happy, it's all how you look at life. If you're wealthy and miserable, then materialism is your enemy and you it's greatest ally.
This couple, how their signs were missed by family and friends is something those people will have to live with....again...the scars left behind. It has nothing to do with the city of Tokyo, or Sapparo, but both cities now have another scar to live with.

This World is a long, long way off from being an all inclusive Star Trekkish 'global' community. When the EU was first formed, everyone was in a tail spin about 'how are so many Nations with different languages, currencies, borders going to 'coexist' as one. Didn't quite work out the way the United States did....'borders, language, culture' build a Nation and sustain it. Many Japanese were worried sick at the end of World War Two, how would the Japanese even survive under Allied rule?!! Turned out alright. Germany too, even after the Wall fell and the two Germany's reunited. China after the Civil War, Vietnam after the 'war'. S. Africa after apartheid....not doing too well. The U.K. is just going to have to see how things roll out, and I feel they will be just fine. Scotland needs to just chill out, they are a bigger player on the board than they used to be, and will have a lot more say so in the future of the U.K. ....

NO! Do not take in 'Islamic 'refugees'. Might as well take a gun and point it at your own head. Does Japan want all of it's traditions, historical places destroyed !?? It will happen, just look at the W.Europe, USA, and any Islamic controlled area. This isn't 'Islmophobia' I'm talking about, it's survival !! Taliban blow up Buddha's in Afghanistan, ISIS blows up everything non-Islamic in Syria-Iraq. Wake up!! If you are so 'pro-refugee' now, where were you when the tragedies of Darfur, Uganda, Congo, Haiti ?? Why weren't you pro-refugee types screaming to take in all of those 'Black' people?! They were all war refugees except Haiti. Proven factually that already, 5% of the 'Syrian' refugee's are 'radical' Islamist fighters, do you want to take that chance? Don't do it !! That 'coexist' mantra is a myth. Ask yourself this, do you get along with all of your own neighbors, people in your neighborhood, no one makes you feel uneasy? Why isn't Saudi Arabia taking in all of those 'Muslim' refugee's...they have the money, resources and space??!!

What...are you going to depend upon Obama and Hillary to protect Japan?! You've seen how that's worked for it's own Ambassador in Libya, the 'Syrian' rebels, Iraq, Afghanistan. At least, at the very least, Japan needs some 'combat' experience veterans to put their boots up all the pacifist rear-ends when the time comes and it will come. CHINA. At the very least - Japan needs to get their Special Forces involved with US SpecOps 'real World' operations. You can run drills all day, but until that moment becomes 'real' does everything take a different life of it's own, and only that kind of experience can make the difference for an Armed Forces to survive when it is truly needed. Kind of like fire department fire fighters, airline pilots, doctors.....until all that training is actually used, do things begin to get better for them and become better.

DON'T DO IT !! Just look at France and Germany and all the problems they're having with 'foreigners' who fail to assimilate. If Japan does, they better just bring in 'local' help..i.e. Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and keep a very, very strict 'workers visa' program. Otherwise, do not do it.....Japan will be sorry...... Japan must have a zero unemployment percentage then? Everyone must have a job?! Build the future of Japan with Japanese citizens. Otherwise, don't do it with foreigners.....trust me....you'll be sorry.

This has been a soap box item of mine for over a decade. Strategically, the US needs to move the Marines off of Okinawa. Kadena and White Beach are the only two places that need to be kept open. Building a 'floating base' would be stupid, to put it in layman's terms. One good Typhoon-Hurricane, is going to take it out or even one good suicidal Commie submarine is going to take it out. From every conceptional idea I've seen online leaves the 'airfield concepts' very vulnerable to both. As the World witnessed to Fukashima, the sea has it's own way of overcoming man's obstacles.

Posted in: Japan announces changes to refugee system See in context
I see a lot of 'liberal progressives' giving many the 'thumbs down'. These people obviously live in a very, safe secure bubbled wrapped environment and have yet to live with 'refugees'. Just look at Western Europe, what were once great Nations of mainly Caucasians, are swiftly falling into anarchy as growing zones of 'outsiders' swell. Those 'no-go' zones do exist in every one of those Nations as mostly 'Muslims' are bringing chaos to what was once order. In the United States, the same thing is happening among 'our own melting pot' of diversity, which is breaking down into cultures of skin color, race, and religion. Borders, language, culture bind a Nation together, without those three, you have chaos. Look at any Nation that has suffered 'civil war', Sudan, Libya, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon,'Yugoslavia', diversity is often a dream of progressives, but a nightmare of reality to everyone else. If Japan starts bringing in refugees, especially Muslims, it's a cancer that will kill Japan's 3000 years of uniqueness. There are 'zones' in Tokyo where many Indians and Pakistani's live-work, and they do not want to go back. Europeans and Japanese worked hard after World War Two and built great Nations, now the people from other Nations, unwilling to do those sacrifices which it takes to build a Nation, pour into developed Nations and demand and take, and take, and take, without every truly giving back. For those who desire 'refugees' come into Japan, open up your home to them, and do not let them become your neighbors problem, otherwise, you're just a hypocrite.

Gackt is right on many of his observations. An err I find is the name 'Cool Japan' , it just doesn't 'catch the attention. The word 'cool' could be used in the description i.e. What's hot, hip, and cool in Japan today." There is plenty. The Japanese Govt does need to 'promote' itself more, i.e. again,...I thought that it would be great if Japan had chartered at least two flights of fans to Vancouver to support the Japanese Girls soccer team. Congrats to Team USA, they played very well the whole tournament. Congrats to Team Japan, the girls did great, it was the coaching that lacked. From the opening, I saw too much laxness on Japan's pre-game warm up, Team USA were drilling hard. Japan opened with all the wrong players.....coaching fault.....! The goalkeeper, Kaihori, should have been more disciplined to stay within her goal bounds, not to be a player-coach on the field....again, Coach's problem he should have handled. Overall, a big congratulations to Team Japan for making it to the final round. Looking forward to seeing them again shine in 2016 at the Olympics !!!!

This is all political theater. The 'people' on both sides have long reconciled their own thoughts and feelings about the 'wars'. Japan has helped S. Korea build the giant economic engine it is today. Japan has taken in and free of monetary charge, educated thousands upon thousands of S. Koreans and have helped S. Korean build their manufacturing plants. The people stirring this old pot are just doing it for their own selfish political motives. They had better be very, very, .... very wary of alienated Japan because 'Lil Kim Un is going to restart that war in the very near future - Lil' Un's goal is to 'unite' the Korea's......under his rule, make no mistake about that.

Seems since 'Ms Park' has been 'elected' in SK, everything has taken a serious downturn for S.Korea. Kind of like here in the US with Obama. World War Two was fought by our Fathers, Great Grandfathers, it has nothing to do with the People in both Nations living today other than to honor the dead, remember the past, and not repeat it. Little Un is going to be marching across that DMZ some time soon, count on it. Unlike his Granddad or Pappy, Un hasn't seen the horror and hardships of war. And when the NK's come, and they will, the SK's are going to want Japan as a dear friend to lean on. Then there's Russia and China turning the World into their personal playground. Get your priorities straight!!

“Some of you young men think that war is all glamour and glory, but let me tell you, boys, it is all hell!” -General William T. Sherman 1880 The pain is sometimes more than what people want to remember or talk about, and by not talking about it, those most affected wish to bury and forget it. It is always the innocent that suffer from the weakness, greed, or lack of humanity by politicians throughout history from every corner of the World. There is brutality and suffering so inhuman, happening today across the Middle East and Africa, yet most people refuse to talk about it. Every war, there are events that almost imperceptible evil, but it is a war, and ultimately the fault lies with the People that support the Government that leads them either into war's victory or defeat. I watched the fire bombing of WW2 played out on a family TV show, Hanako to Anne, that showed the horror the people suffered on a very small, yet powerful scale. War is hell, and it is all to often the innocent are the victims. Bring 'blame' out now, is akin to the South Koreans or Chinese blaming Japan for WW2 'war crimes'. Those who committed those 'crimes' are long dead, it is the succeeding generations duty to remember and not repeat those mistakes.
