In good faith I signed a contract to be an onsite manager for a kanrishya(I guess). after I told them I couldn't do it all by myself in a given day, they somehow convinced my Japanese wife that "she had to do it", "because she was my wife". Her name isn't on the contract. I have given notice, but she still works about 80 hours a month for them for Y20k! Extortion in my book. Tokyo legal can't do anything unless she files a formal complaint. The whole situation is bad, they have been operating since last September, unregistered- it's like the wild wild west. This is an outfit that manages multiple apartments in an apartment building- and others do as well. So the industry is ideal for indentured servitude. They and she believe there is a "Japanese way" of doing business that is clearly not what the law says about minimum wage and overtime.
