Lots of people are getting covid. People will die having covid but to say they've died of covid is often a stretch.

In Kyoto 48.6% of beds for covid patients are taken. Of beds for serious cases 7.8% are taken.

as a long Covid patient I need to 100% disagree with you. There is still a lot we don’t know about Covid and it caused me to double my medication I took for years before getting Covid. There are reported excess deaths at least in the UK and the cause is unknown but to say it’s not possibly caused by long term health complications caused or exacerbated by Covid is just plain ignorant.

You guys saying hospitalizations are down have no clue how difficult it is to get into the hospital in Japan. There are many people that had difficulty getting into a hospital with Covid or a fever here and subsequently died.

Waste of time reporting these glorified numbers! The 17 in hospital in Tokyo and 160 Japan wide is all that really counts and low enough to be statistically insignificant or at least on par with the flu….

you’re basically ignoring the fact that it’s nearly impossible to get into the hospital with a fever and this is a real issue in Japan, Japan has never scaled up for this virus and now they are being hit harder than they ever have. Current measures are not in the interest of public safety instead they are for financial security. I don’t know the governments logic on this but don’t tell me to take off my mask and don’t tell me not to be paranoid about Covid you can do what you want, I don’t care what you do but I’ll continue to exercise caution.

@didu it’s perfectly normal for you and those you know not to be struck down by it as long Covid impacts 5% of the population. I know people that started their long Covid journey as late as August of this year so it is very much still an issue.

you cannot compare your flu experience of covid to how it impacts everyone else. There are various factors from a cellular level that come into play when it comes to how much it impacts an individual. For myself and many other athletes we have been struck down hard by covid 19 unexpectedly with long term complications. This is why this illness should not be taken lightly by anyone.

As we enter the next wave everyone and every industry should express more caution until it ends.

Everyone that wants everything to return to what was once normal has probably never been bed ridden by this virus long term.

For me to think of things as normal or pre Covid levels hospitals need to have the ability here to treat patients if they have Covid or not.

I love the Japanese governments logic here. “Let’s stop giving the vaccine for free because we declared Covid to be not a problem anymore”.

meanwhile hospitals have not stopped fever screening at the door. Less people are getting tested than a few months ago. Meanwhile there was a new variant variant X in Canada and now that we have the freedom to travel across borders it’ll probably be in japan in no time if it’s not already.

It seems like a counterintuitive choice to open the boarders with the struggling ambulances, Japan just coming out of its worst wave yet but we’ll see.

But let’s be clear I do hope this Covid thing will eventually be a thing of the past but I think it’s too early for Japan.

Economic pressures are superseded by personal safety these days. Japan is literally coming out of their most deadly time period with Covid and all they can do is pretend all is well, this is sad.

Nobody is saying Covid is ending in fact it’s quite the opposite Covid is here to stay it seems that’s the whole reason it’s endemic…. People need to actually learn the definition of endemic….

This means hospitals need to improve their info structure for those at risk, it also means that we indeed need to get back to some sort of normalcy but also have some sanity in The meantime By taking precautions when necessary. It also means that the millions struck with long Covid need proper accommodations for returning to work and to re-acclimate to society as millions are impacted and also unemployed because of it.

No way am I ever having another covid shot. What, twice a year for the rest of our lives is it? Not a chance. Those most at risk are the obese. The best thing I can do to protect myself is lose some weight.

As a long Covid patient or as someone with a post viral condition please talk to your doctor before getting a booster. I’ve been medically advised to not get the booster until I’m 100%…. I’m not anti vax but please talk to your doctor if it’s in your best interest to get the vaccine with any medical condition you may have.

Covid is basically a non story everywhere except Japan and China. What does that tell you?

I’ve never had long flu but I’ve got long Covid and I can tell you this has been shown to impact peoples lives up to two years. CRP is generally high with those with long Covid and hormone levels are all over the charts. There is an isolated case out Kobe university where they found Covid messed with the hypothalamus that would explain the prolonged symptoms for years and the hormonal issues.

I assure you the team of doctors im working with for my long Covid treat it very seriously, here in Japan. I think Japan will wake up to long Covid more 6 months to a year after this current wave because everyone is getting infected.
