@Gaikokujin I've no idea about those that play the markets for fun, except one poor soul who needlessly committed suicide over losses. They should not be extended the ability to over expose themselves. I'm very sad for these people. That said, the situation on the stock exchange needs to reflect the horrific reality for us plebs -economic carnage.

I hope the stock market devalues to reflect the true economic situation and billionaires who so far profitted from the virus, lose absolutely everything. As for the Trumps, the mercy you show shall be the mercy you receive. Good luck.

Can you imagine being so invested in the lies of Trump's cult, that you still can't admit he is dangerous to democracy and morally, spiritually and financially bankrupt! I haven't stopped laughing all evening. Trouble is a wounded animal is dangerous. I do wonder what he might do as distraction.

Strangerland, you are absolutely correct. What the Republicans can't win, they will try steal. Democracy and the Constitution are in grave danger.

Posted in: The immigration authorities are running a system bereft of fairness and transparency. Japan is a party to the Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, meaning it is committed to recognizing people in need as refugees and protecting them. See in context

When my idiot of an ex (Japanese) husband refused to give me my paperwork to renew my marriage visa, and tried to force me to leave my, at that time, little kids behind, I ended up on the floor of horror at immigration. The Japanese authorities were devoid of any decency, kindness, morality, the other detained people I spoke to were terrified. Stories of families split up, inhumane treatment and callousness. Japan truly needs to change.

Its around $70,000 for private day care per child. That makes working not worth while. A woman, especially a non Japanese woman, forced to be entirely dependent on her husband financially, in Japan means she's vulnerable to abuse. She cannot leave as is unable to support herself and the kids. Forget a settlement or alimony, how will she pay for a lawyer, and anyway the courts take years if the husband refuses a divorce. A woman needs to work for her own safety. Bitter experience here. I'm middle aged and my life was destroyed by having kids in Japan.

My personal experience of the Japanese system is hard won and was life alteringly horrific, Strangerland. It's simple, the Japanese police do not act and when it's too late it's shoganai and a shrug

The police should not need training to know the bleeding bruised young mother is the victim, and the man she is married to, is identifying as the perp, needs to be taken to jail.

If young people can't see why we need to talk about WW2 on the 75 th anniversary of it's end, then our education system has failed miserably. The average age of death on one side of my family was 29 in 1945. If we don't remember we will repeat.

Noone can disagree she suffered terribly. She was a little girl, surrounded by death, war and fear, her entire family dying around her, in a hostile country, relying on the kindness of enemies of the state to which she belonged. She is not responsible for the crimes of her father, nor the suffering caused by Japanese hawkism. God bless Fumie Sato.

Painting dv as more of an issue with Japanese men is awful. My husband didn't beat me up because he was Japanese. He beat me up and stalked me because he was a bad person. Kind of fits with the foreign men in Japan fetishizing Japanese women while being hostile to Japanese men.

I know from bitter experience that Japanese police don't care about women's safety, particularly from intimate partner violence. I'm so sorry this poor woman lost her life. He needed to be jailed for stalking.

They found the virus on the meat of frozen chicken wings, and frozen shrimp packaging. This outbreak was first detected in a worker at a frozen food distribution center. It's spreading via formite transmission. It's stability in frozen food suggests winter is going to be bad.

Fear of giving birth naturally, Cleo, is a thing. It's not a competition. A woman has a right to the birth she needs and wants. After my first disaster birth I wanted a section and got what I needed.
