OK checked them out. Not once did I see the word Japanese in any of the posts to which you refer. I could never judge that any of those three posters--judging by the posts above--have experience of being married to a Japanese national. ie) a has been marries a nobody--that could be Chinese, God forbid British, USA-geez no time for the list, 4:29 asks about own place, Benz ... again not a single mention of race, and your 1:17 actually adds a bit of sarcasim saying "the perfect Japanese marriage" I still don't see a gang beating up on Japanese marriages. I do see the above mentioned talking about the ONE marriage--and I actually can read this to mean the same can be found in my country and yours, so I don't see a gang out in force against Japanese marriages here. Sorry

It seems the 'I-married-a-Japanese-and-it-didn't-work-out-so-all-Japanese-marriages-must-be-rubbish' gang

Did I miss something? I just can't see the "gang" you refer to anywhere in the other 13 comments above. In fact there is nothing mentioned in above posts about I-married-a-Japanese .... oops! excuse me, your post mentions that.

manfromamerica,

Americans can be taxed on Japanese income too.

yes I know. I wasn't addressing that I simply gave examples how Americans here still pay US taxes to counter goddog's point. US service members or spouses, for example, who might find work here--teaching, whatever--also must pay US taxes on income generated here. There always seems to be very general statements about US taxes in this forum. Having submitted US tax forms for nearly a quarter of a century, including two "huge" audits, I believe I am qualified to know about US tax laws for expats. By the way, I pay US taxes every year and the amount of Japanese taxes I pay is too die for.

goddog

I will bet with odds that there are some Americans living in Japan who pay both Japanese taxes on income generated here and US taxes on income or property there. Any American who owns property, for example, in the US pays property taxes there. Furthermore, American citizens who own US stocks and receive dividends are paying taxes to the US treasury (IRS) in the tune of 15% or higher if divs are not qualified and if a US stock is sold, cap gains taxes are paid--guess where???-right, the IRS. Any American who still owns a registered vehicle Stateside pays state taxes for tag renewal. I bet there is more than a boatload of Americans here who fall into this category.

The entire sudden acceleration thing was completely blown out of proportion by the media

Lives were actually lost and others injured--blown out of proportion, and I witnessed the CEO crying like baby on national (international TV) when he addressed Toyota workers at a US factory.

Burakumin: Indeed. And I have personally carried the US flag representing the VFW at that cemetery during ceremonies to honor our war dead. The VFW (An American organization) always remembers and participates in those ceremonies, and so do we Americans who also fought in that and later struggles. What a shame that cemetery doesn't make even a blurb on NHK, et al, ad nauseam local media while too much coverage continues for the "victims" of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I hope our commonwealth friends realize Americans took part in those conflicts and we remember and celebrate ours and yours alike. We sell Buddy Poppies, too. I wish rafts of people would visit that cemetery.

How long does it take to set up all that underwear for the photos?

I suppose it depends on the number of officers laying them out. My guess is there were more than 3000 male officers who voluneered, so they did paper/rock/scissors and then 3000 winners lined up to snatch his pair and lay them, the ole snatch and lay system. So, determining the winners took up the most time.

porter, fair enough on the housing hit, I suppose, because I don't think about it nor care about it. Those in Japan without the housing allowance (that is no doubt a majority) can deduct rent paid from their "earned income in Japan"/thus a lower US tax bill (comes in handy if one makes a tad over the limit and unnecessary to factor in if one's salary here falls below the limit, so doesn't matter). I, a home owner/purchaser, on the other hand, cannot take this "rent" deduction, but I can and do write off the property tax and property insurance I pay in Japan for property I am buying. However, I feel no sorrow for an expat who stays here and makes a decent salary coupled with the "housing allowance" you speak of. Hey, if what you suggest is correct, then basically their "free" rent is still free minus a US tax bill. Still pretty good in anyone's books, since most expats here must pay rent or mortgage payment.

Cleo@

People are deliberately going where they know there are bears, and complaining when they get attacked?

Wow! Where are you trying to take this simple report above? Yellowstone is a National park with campsites as well as many places in the surrounding areas outside that national park. As I stated earlier, pull out an atlas--the entire region, Montana, Idaho and Wyoming is a "GREAT" mountain system WHERE PEOPLE CAMP, HIKE and FISH. I said nothing of people complaining: that is your line/question. I simply stated people go there and added that the bears aren't "coming out of the forests to kill people" (in reponse to your comment above--you got it wrong is all I'm saying--bears aren't coming out of the forests to kill people and that is what you said) but instead I simply pointed out that people go to where the bears are.

Posted in: Watch out for Yellowstone bears -- they're hungry See in context

cleo@

Instead of waiting for hungry bears to come out of the forests and kill people

When you get a chance, pull out an atlas and you will note that Yellowstone is in the forest, thus people/campers/park visitors are going into their (if you'll excuse my expression) neck of the woods.

porter@

The % of tax you pay in Japan doesn't change but you now may be in a higher US tax bracket.

You certainly do not understand form 1112: it has nothing to do with the % of tax you pay in Japan, it is about the amt of tax you pay in Japan and tthat amt is figured by the exchange rate and can therefore be deducted.

Posted in: Soaring yen threatens disaster for most, but profits for some See in context

kp123@

Downside of course is that you're in a higher tax bracket with the IRS, provided you are filing

Makes no difference as this higher income will be offset by the higher amt of taxes you paid here, as figured in your form 1116. Of course if you are breaking US law by not filing, then none of this discussion is necessary anyway.

If it is true that the mosque near Ground Zero is to promote tolerance;

It was suggested that a gay nightclub be opened next door to the mosque.

Two names suggested are; "The Turban Cowboy", and "You Mecca Me Hot".

On the other side they should open a butcher shop that specializes in pork! And across the street a store that sells and displays bikinis or ladies lingerie on manikins...or live models.
