Why do Foreigners in Japan... blah blah blah
Makes you feel good disparaging foreigners on this site, doesn't it. Explain to us foreigners how it makes any sense to be blocking permanent residents from returning to their homes after travelling abroad. I guess you should consider yourself lucky that Hong Kong is still allowing residents, regardless of nationality, re-enter the country after travelling aborad.
I wonder how many of the 12,674 reservations for international flights are one way tickets?

I have a very hard time believing that the restrictions will be lifted after GW. There have been some improvements in social distancing in my area but the pachinko down the street has hundreds of cars from out of town in the parking lot each day. Municipalities should come up with creative ways to shut these places down. Maybe they should start construction on the roads just in front of the entrance or something.

Without faces those two could be teenagers for all we know, and the cops are stopping them for being out too late. Or it could all just be a set up too, for the camera!
There was a video of this particular incident circulating on Twitter. The cops were walking around with batons drawn telling people that they shouldn’t be out on the streets. The citizens in this photo looked like young (20 something) salarymen. These guys were drunk in the street flashing peace signs when the cameras showed up. The police posturing seemed very aggressive for Japanese police.

Monday’s results are from tests taken on Sunday. Ever try to go to the hospital on a Sunday in Japan? They’re mostly closed. I don’t think a decline in positive results means much in this case.

Maybe today, tomorrow, the next day...? As this article states, the policy is being updated and will be implemented soon. The point is, even if you have a work visa or a student visa (of even PR in some cases) you will be denied entry if you come from one of the countries listed. It’s not voluntary quarantine, it’s denial of entry and deportation.

For the time being, Ministry of Justice denies permission to land in Japan to the following foreigners as ones who fall under the Article 5, paragraph (1), item (xiv) of Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act, unless the circumstances are exceptional.

No it does not. Also students are allowed.
Careful, this is incorrect. If you are returning from a Category 1 country from the restricted list work or student visa holders will not be allowed in. PR are allowed back with special permission.

There have been 30-40 new cases reported every day for the past two weeks. How is that a slight decrease in new cases? The standard for an epidemic is 15 (confirmed cases) per 100,000.
Again I’ll ask, why are you using the method to determine an epidemic as a means to calculate infection rates? It’s not the same calculation. Furthermore, you keep intentionally omitting the fact that time is also used in the calculation for determining epidemics.

So what are you talking about? Infection rates or the method used to determine if an epidemic is occurring? The formula for infection rates is simple (number of confirmed infections/population at risk for infection) x 100. The population at risk is determined by the number of people who have been exposed to a contagion.

Posted in: Abe requests event cancellations for 10 more days See in context
The confirmed infection rate is still at around 1 per 100,000.
This is absolutely false. The confirmed infection rate is 575 in 9600. Why is this false information allowed to stay on these threads when it is clearly intended to mislead? According to the same poster, three weeks ago COVID19 was a biological weapon developed in Wuhan, two weeks ago it was a virus created by the USA to destabilize China and now it’s not a big deal and nothing to fear.

With an R0 of between 2.2-2.6 the infection rate we are seeing in Japan is statistically impossible. It is not some miracle of the Japanese health care system that is keeping the infection rate so low, it’s a manipulation of the testing procedures.

I’m a father and will be staying at home to take care of my kids. The whole point of school closures is defeated by parents taking their kids to work or sending them to other types of daycare. This is an unprecedented (potential) health crisis and we’ve been asked to keep our kids home to reduce their risk of being exposed. It might be time to re-evaluate your priorities if your job is more important than your kids or you’re working somewhere that won’t accommodate you at this time.

One of the things I find frustrating about these types of news stories is the lack of specific details about the infections.
In this article we have ‘two businesses in Tokyo’ and ‘a building in Marunouchi business district.’ Previously it was information about a man riding the Tokaido Shinkansen, someone returning to Tochigi on public transportation, a women in Chiba, etc. How can anyone use this information to know if they’ve been potentially exposed to the virus? Without specifics like dates, times, or places this information is useless. We need specifics if we want to be able to protect ourselves.
