Congratulations on embracing vaccines, Danes! Over 60 percent 3rd dose - and rising fast - shows Danes sure do believe in the science.

One rule for the elite and one for the regular bloke. And then Aussies get angry when someone calls the country a neo-communist state. Once again, I'm glad I left that place.

As an regular, "non elite" person, I'd like to get into Japan to visit again soon. However I am presently prevented from getting a visa. I accept their rules, and don't badmouth the country or call it a "neo-communist state", "Chinese tributary state" or such nonsense.

"My government alone will decide who can enter and leave this country" - S. Morrison.

Apparently not.

That boast is not going to play well in the May election. What an epic and desperate stuff up by the stinking conservative Morrison government.

So how did the draconian lockdowns and restrictions of people work to keep the virus out? Dont say nobody pointed out how misguided the policy is.

Still, they have a Covid death rate infinitely better than your country. Averaging 7 deaths per day.

Thanks to vaccination.

Disgraceful.

Thr Australian government has banned hundreds of thousands of vaccinated people - many with very compelling reasons - coming and going into the country for two years. All the while granting plenty of celebrity visas on "critical skills" grounds. Novak is just one of these exceptions.

Shame on Tennis Australia for applying for the exemption. The storm theyve created will fall on their heads.

Bigger shame on the Australian government for issuing the visa.

An absolute disgrace for Victoria and Australia allowing an anti vaxxer to play in the Aus Open.

Lost all respect for tennis Australia. One law for the rich and a tougher law for the poor.

Disgusted!!

Agree.

But let's remember who stated, many times:

"The federal government decides who can enter and exit Australia." - S. Morrison.

This is on the feferal governments head.

Shame on them, shame on slimy Scott, the liar from the Shire.

Why hasnt Dan Andrews pulled a lockdown with 8000 cases today? He use to love lockdowns for 100 cases a day.

Is it really that hard to understand?

Well over 90% of people now vaccinated, and as a result only a handful are dying. The vast majority of them, of course, unvaxxed. The unvaxxed delta risk of 3-4 months ago is largely gone.

And your remedy for this ‘fear mongering’ is to claim:

100k protesters ‘EVERY’ day into infinity

Exactly. Laughable comments like "100k protestors ready to march every day" are the only fear mongering I can see.

Sadly, not a surprise to me to wake up to this. Ferguson has a history of anti-social and illegal behaviour. At 31, he has never grown up and should never be anywhere near alcohol. There is something called due diligence that NEC neglected to apply. He has a conviction for indecent assault here in Australia, among other incidents of bad behaviour on the drink and sackings from clubs. He played for my league club here and we were happy to let him go.

NEC will be asking some tough questions to Michael Chieka over this recruitment.

Posted in: Coronavirus cases skyrocket across Australia as Omicron spreads See in context

Another thing, how testing everyone will guarantee that number of deaths will be zero? South Korea and Australia; countries that test everyone has huge number of deaths.

"Huge numbers of deaths"? Huh? The 7 day average deaths in Australia: 7 per day. I think most nations would be very happy with those numbers. The US is still tragically running at 1500 plus per day.

From all the reading I have done, it does not seem the omicron variant leads to too many deaths, so I dont imagine those death numbers will skyrocket in such a vaccinated nation as Australia. The US with far lower vaccination numbers is a very different story.

Unfortunately it seems the spread of omicron was inevitable once the borders were opened and all quarantine measures removed.

This is easily the worst England team I have seen in my 35 years watching test cricket. Apart from Root there are simply no batsmen. They need a shake up of their outdated, weak county system to become competitive. It may well take a decade.

Agree with BigYen.

Even as an Aussie I was hoping for an entertaining series like last years brilliant one vs India. England have been so poor the media here are talking us up as world-beaters. We aren't. I predicted 4-0, looking like 5-0 now. Boring.

And needless to say Australia, too, who moved to the Asia group since they could never qualify for the European group.

Australia was never in or attempting to "qualify for the European group". They were previously playing off vs the 5th S.American team for a place, ie Maradonas Argentina, Uruguay etc. The reality is Australian soccer is very small, and has not really produced any top class players for 10-15 years. A few injuries to key players and there is no depth.

Probably the only Asian team capable of making the 2nd rd. of the Finals would be SK, if they get a nice draw. Or Qatar with home advantage? Fair to say Asian soccer isnt really improving though.

It is planned that the first nuclear submarine could be in the fleet in 2040. If So Australia will be the eighth nation to operate nuclear submarines after US, Russia, China, UK, France, India and Brazil who have already begun construction on their first nuclear sub.

@ Peter14 - Wow - 2040. Thats longer than I thought!

The media here reported South Korea has a nuclear sub programme in the works so we will likely be behind them at least? Clearly its an enormous and time-consuming national project.

Posted in: Australian PM rejects Chinese criticism of nuclear sub deal See in context

What happened to the massively upvoted posters from two days ago proclaiming Australia a "Communist Chinese vassal state" or some such nonsense, due to the Covid response?!

Now its all a big love-in for us!

No shock China is throwing a mini tantrum. Interesting to see how this plays out. We are talking long term here until the subs are launched. Sorry to say but we dont have a stellar record of building our subs here. There is still no known design and no contract in place for these subs. The French-designed ones were supposed to be launched in the early 2030s, so the earliest for the nuclear-powered ones will be mid to late 2030s.

Of course Biden forgot his name. That bumbling mess can barely push out a coherent sentence.

Bit harsh on Biden. Scotty isnt super memorable, to be fair.

@ Jay - Australia is not a Western nation? When did this happen? Very curious to hear your take on this.
