It is terrible that in 2011 this can happen. If evidence can not prove someone guilty beyond reasonable doubt, that person must not be imprisoned, let alone put to death.

Australia stopped the death sentence years ago because we killed the wrong person. After the death penalty was carried out, the man who actually committed the crime, came forward. This started the debate on abolishing the death penalty and finally it was abolished. Sure, we have crimes which we think it might be a suitable sentence ( port arthur mass murder case comes to mind), but now life in prison with no parole is the toughest sentence.

Yes, I would like to have zero or as close to zero contaminants as possible, thank you. Why would I buy from a suspected area when I have options.

TEPCO should be forced to buy all the farming land, all the houses etc in the areas where radiation is so high that people can not live there or the food produced there can not be eaten. The people should relocate.

wait a minute - we are in Japan. Here we ALL must tell local authorities when we move ( non-Japanese - our foreign cards get amended and Japanese on their Juminhyo )...

Borscht -- I agree with outside pressure often working well but can't help but think that if people here stood up and demonstrated as a whole group, the government would listen and this would draw outside attention too.

And to Japan Today - The fact that they were there (Washington DC) visiting the UN and not the US surely is worth mentioning earlier on in the article.

While I am not against this, I think these people need to stand up to their own government first.

apparently, the toddler has a muscle problem in her legs but can walk a bit and play etc. the reason this was mentioned at all, is that she probably can't run miles away from the car.

the story was just on the news.

after the mother went back to the car, she ran to the closest shop and ask the attendant if the parking area has surveillence cameras. then when the attendant said no, she said 'oh no, what can i do?!'...

that is a really bizarre thing to ask first. surely you would scream her name, call the police, scream her name and ask the attendant if she has seen a little girl and then scream her name again...
