Well, if it was a 4D bra it would be bending space-time. Now that would be a double D if there ever was one.

I agree. We should ship the whole Diet to an emergency shelter and let some refegees have their homes until reconstruction is completed. Then we can talk about if it's time for Kan to resign.

Posted in: How much longer can photographic film hold on? See in context

As digital filtering and A/D converters have improved it's getting difficult to tell the difference between digital and emulsion. Digital is also more accessable to people - check out photo.net for some good serious work. Of course flickr is out there for the point-and-shoot crowd. I guess there are some nuances in emulsion that digital won't pick up. But I think digital has made serious photography much more widespread (and tougher to make a living at).

Politicians and sex scandals just seem to be like hand and glove. It's the same the world over.

I personally feel the event clearly shows Palin as the self-centered person she is -- someone who is oblivious to genuine grace and ethical behavior...

Yabits, you got that right. Anybody who would bail out of their term as elected governor of a state to go off and earn millions is certainly self centered and oblivious. Palin is not presidential material. But she may be crazy like a fox when it comes to money.

Posted in: Israel minister: Strike on Iran could be necessary See in context

While I agree with the analysis that something has to be done about Iran, eventually, I think the timing of the issue has more to do with deflecting attention from the lack of peace talks with the Palistinians than it does with developments in Iran.

You can say what you want about the government and TEPCO information but waiting until the last minute and then cancelling is rather irrational. Guess the director got that right.

Another blow to liberty. OBL probably never understood how successful he was. Now Americans look for the boogy man under the bed and allow liberty to be tossed over for government provided "security." Maybe Osama read 1984 and understood how he could, eventually, ruin the West by sowing fear.

I'm not sure that the background radiation levels are the problem, so the suits are probably good enough. But inhaling the dust or bringing it out of the area is a bad idea. Sure, it's bound to be icky sticky in the suits but I bet they get a free decontamination shower when they leave the area.

Posted in: Obama addresses Arab world; urges Israel to go back to 1967 borders See in context

but I see the extremism of Hamas as a symptom on the situation, not a primary cause of the lack of peace...

Since the UN created modern Israel the stance of the Arab neighbors has been to destroy it. Hamas is dedicated to a position that has been in place for 60 years. Their position is not the result of Israeli treatment of the Palistinians. In fact, if you look at Hamas' treatment of Palistinians who don't agree with them you have to wonder who the civilized party is.

I do agree that Israel should not be building settlements in occupied Palistinian lands. There is a faction that is pushing for a "greater Israel" policy. This is the group that Bibi agrees with and will continue to be the problem.

While I'm not sure that I agree with Obama's stated position on this 100%, I agree with the tactic that sometimes you have to put out a proposal and allow both sides to comment just to get the dialog going. I won't fault him for trying.

Posted in: IMF chief under suicide watch at NYC jail See in context

Yuri, the judge felt there was enough evidence to hold the guy without bail. That's not only because he's a flight risk, it means the evidence the prosecution has presented is substantial and credible. I doubt the maid was a set up; I also doubt she is looking for a payoff to drop the charges.

But DSK is lucky. In France he would be guilty until proven innocent.

Whatever shame he is feeling he has brought on himself.

How is any of this related to DSK's nationality?

Posted in: IMF chief jailed without bail in New York hotel sex assault case See in context

Ironically, if the jerk had been in France (and a woman had pressed charges)then French jurisprudence is guilty until proven innocent. Since he got caught in the USA he is innocent until proven guilty. Unfortunately for him there is, apparently, blood from the assault involved. In the US that would be considered evidence that the victim fought back. The fact that they arrested the guy on a plane trying to leave the country didn't help either. He may be getting special treatment at Rikers - wouldn't want the rapist to be raped, would we - but he's got a big mess on his hands and I'm starting to doubt that he's going to get away with it.

Posted in: Facebook-Google rivalry intensifies with PR fiasco See in context

I've got my FB privacy settings set about as tight as they can be and still have an account. What FB does with personal information is not something that you want out in identity theft land. Google isn't exactly as pure as the driven snow - "don't be evil" has been overtaken by lust for profit.

Bottom line is that, on the web, you can't put too much of your real self out there without asking to become a victim. And, of course, understand that on the web the other person you are talking to is following that advice. You're not seeing the whole person.

Kinda creepy, eh?

Yeah RR, really. I know al Qaida wants revenge but if they are out to get revenge on the USA they seem to have picked the wrong target. Seems, to me, that they are just trying to justify murder - again.
