Posted in: Bored Japanese trucker gets kicks from Syria war tourism See in context

I expect we'll be reading about him later this year: "Japanese man killed in Syria".

Kin is also the same kanji to represent the Korean surname Kim, e.g. Kim Jong-un.

The rice can easily be distributed to bento factories around the country. Coming soon to a conbini or supermarket near you!

Yogi the Pedobear. This reminds me of the movie "Trust" which looked at online dating and rape. Only this is worse with human trafficking.

I like carbonated water as a way to stay away from soft drinks. It's amazing when mixed with Calpis!

Posted in: A Japanese suicide See in context

What a surreal story, very rare to experience. I guess the apartment is now "cursed" so the rent would be dirt cheap. Would any of you readers live there if you were apartment hunting? I'm not superstitious so I'd have no qualms about moving in.

Posted in: Can men and women really be close platonic friends? See in context

Remember this is about close friends, not just light workplace friendships. Could you have a close platonic relationship with a member of the opposite sex?

Posted in: What happens to Japanese porn stars after they retire? See in context

I think a greater concern is STDs. Doesn't every AV star end up with herpes?

Posted in: Too old to drive - How to convince older drivers to give up their keys? See in context

We need to encourage older people to cycle more, like in Japan. That way they can still have some independence after quitting driving (i.e. go down the street to go shopping etc). It's also good for their health. Taking the bus just helps speed up their ageing process.

Posted in: What Japanese women discreetly check out when on a hunt for a husband See in context

How about "Are your arms bigger than his?".

Those stick-figure guys might look like some manga characters but with no muscle mass whatsoever, it'll be you who has to carry the shopping to the car and do the housework.

Posted in: Apple event invites hint at iPhone 5 debut See in context

Perhaps people have it wrong, it's not iPhone 5, it's iPhone S (S standing for "Steve"). Or maybe iPhone 4SS. "S" and "5" are rather similar looking.

Posted in: Foreign visitors to Comiket 82: What they like and don't like about Japan See in context

@SimondB: perhaps a large portion of the foreigners at Comiket came because they could speak English and expected to be able to speak in that language with other visitors and the manga artists. For people who can only speak their own language and not Japanese or English, they probably stayed home.

Execution hangings are designed to break the neck, rendering the prisoner unconscious. In this case the poor guy probably strangled to death, NOT a nice way to go. RIP.

Will the embassy get a helicopter to fly above the embassy so Assange can climb a rope ladder into it and escape to freedom?

@Tiger_In_The_Hermitage: I'm not sure, it might be like how criminals in Australia can get access to guns, even though we have gun laws. Perhaps these would-be pedo teachers will learn through online networks how to answer the psych tests in order to appear "normal".

Posted in: Female teacher arrested for photographing 11-year-old school girls naked See in context

The ANN video reports that Yamakawa "has an interest in girls' chests", here "chests" being "mune" so it doesn't mean these girls have "beautiful breasts".

To all those who donated to SS: how much of your donation went into securing bail for Mr Watson? Germany is very grateful for your donation to its country.

We shouldn't encourage elementary school-aged kids to become obese. If they were obese to start with, that's a different story, however.

How safe is anyone really even if Japan gave up nuclear energy completely?

Good point @gyroman. For example, China has big earthquakes, and if a nuclear power plant accident happened, any radiation could drift towards Japan.
