"The majority of the Jews came from Europe."

Of course not. - zibala

A bit of a factual quandary you've worked yourself into there. Curious what sort of contortionist logic you concoct to Houdini yourself out of this one.

"Ashkenazi. One of two major ancestral groups of Jewish people whose ancestors lived in France and Central and Eastern Europe, including Germany, Poland, and Russia. The other group is called Sephardic Jews and includes those whose ancestors lived in Spain, Portugal, North Africa, and the Middle East." - Wallace

This is very important information to know. The majority of Israeli immigrants were Eastern European socialists. Hence the creation of the Kibbutz.

There's also Mizrahi Jews who are basically Middle Eastern Jews and Ethiopian Jews. Or to put it more simply 'brown' Jews. These aren't as well favoured in Israeli society. Especially the Ethiopian Jews who are considered lesser Jews.

Until just over a decade ago Ethiopian Jews were being sterilized by the Israeli government against their will in order to reduce their population. A form of eugenics considered a crime against humanity.

Israel is not just an apartheid state for the non-Jewish indigenous population but also for the less favourable types of Jews.

Most of the Arabs in Gaza came from Egypt anyway. Many Judea and Samaria Arabs came from Jordan, so good they can return to their homelands.- zibala

So when Palestine was around 3% Jewish in 1900 where did all the Jews come from?

The United States says an independent Palestinian state should be established through direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority and not through U.N. action.

A negotiation between an occupier and the occupied will never be fair. The idea that the victims must negotiate with the perpetrators without independent oversight is sadistic and simply idiotic.

Thankfully there are people in the world who don't see everything in black and white and understand that desperate acts can be committed in desperate times and that moderation and rationality are want help resolve conflicts in the long run. Not every problem can be solved with a bomb.

Sounds like Iran plan to overwhelm Israel's iron dome and anti-air defences. I guess Israel will find out how well its defenses work when it's defending against something more than homemade rockets.

Hopefully we don't have another critical defense failure like Oct 7th.

Then in the same article.

The "Grand Roof" and other structures are temporary, with no clear plan for them other than organizers saying they will be reused or recycled.

Thinking about the future and sustainability by building a giant structure that has no future on an artificial island that is slowly sinking.

It's all basically laying the groundwork for the casino they plan to build out there. They didn't spend all that bribery money for nothing.

Back in November of last year it was being reported that Israel had already dropped the equivalent of 2 atomic bombs worth of explosives on the Gaza strip.

Not to mention Israeli Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu calling for the nuclear bombing of Gaza. A quote sited in the ICJ's genocide case.

Perhaps Israel's own words and actions are also worthy of criticism.

Oddly swift for Israel. Still waiting on the alleged investigation into the death of 6 year old Hind Rajab, her family and the 2 ambulance drivers who attempted to rescue her. That happened at the end if January.

Then there's the other 200 plus dead aid workers still awaiting investigation.

The only thing the investigation shows is that only when their total impunity is threatened they'll start playing lip service to international law and basic humanity.

Posted in: Bodies of 6 foreign aid workers slain in Israeli strikes transported out of Gaza See in context

Successive strikes hit the three vehicles that were large distances apart,

There were 3 vehicles in the convoy traveling along a route pre-approved by Israeli forces. First 1 vehicle was struck, the wounded scrambled to another vehicle, the 2nd vehicle was hit, the survivors moved to a 3rd vehicle that was then also hit, killing all those onboard.

Absolutely nothing accidental about the attack. Instead it's part of a clear pattern of Israeli forces purposefully targeting and hunting down unarmed civilians. As we have seen when Israel killed 3 of its own hostages and the drone footage recently leaked showing 4 unarmed Palestinians being blown to pieces one by one. The final victim crawling on his hands and knees as he seems resigned to his fate having just witnessed his 3 other companions being eviscerated by Israeli ordinance.

It now appears that the 3 British citizens killed in Gaza were all ex-military and were working for a British intelligence firm named Solace Global, based in Poole, Dorset. - Alfie Noakes

Interesting. Solace Global is a risk management and security firm. Likely the 3 British ex-soldiers were hired by World Central Kitchen to help keep its aid workers safe.

Much like the 3 shirtless, unarmed, white flag waving Israeli hostages that were shot dead a few months ago it's clear that the IDF does not only indiscriminately kill civilians but in fact targets them deliberately.

We hear of these incidents because the victims were Israelis and international aid workers. Imagine the tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians the IDF has slaughtered that we will never hear about.

I think siding with the U.N., the International Court of Justice and human rights organisation's across the globe is more prudent than befriending a belligerent state like Israel and Netanyahu and his extremist government.

UNWRA has a screening process for all its members and shares a list of all its members with Israel.

Israel issued a dossier claiming UNRWA members participated in the Oct 7th attacks, conveniently on the same day that the International Court of Justice handed down its ruling that Israel was committing plausible genocide.

The dossier obtained by multiple media outlets contains a list of names and accusations but no evidence to substantiate its claims.

It's up to Israel to prove its claims and take responsibility for the greatest man-made famine in modern history.

In the series, titled "Extremely Inappropriate", the past isn't rose-tinted: there's smoking on the bus, boobs on television and corporal punishment galore.

Public smoking laws only cane into effect in 2020. Not much time traveling required. And as in recent scandals with Takarazuka, Dentsu and various sports institutions harassment, corporal punishment and total disregard for labour laws are still commonplace.

Perhaps Ogawa should have time-traveled to 3024 not 2024.

Notice how any and all criticism of Israel is labelled anti Semitic by Israel's leaders. - GuruMick

Thankfully there seems to be more push back against claims like this and the general public can see it for what it is. Obfuscation and deflection. Seeing people like Jonathan Glazer, a Jewish man who made a film about the holocaust being branded an anti-semite for daring to speak out in public about Gaza is just pure nonsense.

Elylon Levy also recently got suspended from his role as official English language Israeli spokesperson after being called out directly by the British government for purposefully lying about the number if aid trucks being let into the strip.

Tzipi Hotovely, the Israeli ambassador to the UK has also vanished from screens since about 3 months ago when she was spouting genocidal rhetoric and a little too publicly broadcasting her own governments extreme hostility to a 2 state solution and the recognition if a Palestinian state.

I look forward to the day Israel's foremost propagandist Mark Regev is finally removed from public discourse.

Posted in: ‘Shogun’ reimagined for new generation of TV viewers See in context

I've been enjoying this series so far. They're very much going for a "Game of Shoguns" vibe. Even the title sequence is basically GoT with Japanese gardens.

I think the most impressive thing has been just how much of the show is in Japanese. Probably around 80% of it is Japanese dialogue. A bold choice for such a big budget American produced TV show.

I also like that it doesn't over explain elements of Japanese culture that would be common knowledge to locals. It happened a lot in series like Blue Eyed Samurai and Rirakuma. Best way I can explain it is that it'd be like having a scene in an American film where a character explains what a hotdog is whilst showing a detailed sequence of a hotdog being made.

This show has some graphic depictions of seppuku and natto but trusts its audience to piece together what's going on.

Netanyahu said. “I told him that I hope we would do this with U.S. support but if necessary – we will do it alone.”

Then let him do it alone. Halt all military aid to Israel immediately. Follow the examples of Canada, Japan, Holland, Spain and Belgium who are not willing to have blatant war crimes committed with their weapons and technology.

I think a lot of people are also thinking about the related issue of Japanese abductions of children in international marriages. Cases like Vincent Fichot's who had his child abducted from their home in France by his Japanese ex-wife.

Japan is a signatory to the Hague Convention of International Child Abduction but a lack of joint custody provisions in Japan's domestic laws meant that the Convention was effectively useless and parents like Fichot had no legal recourse to access their children.

Hopefully, this changes that.
