She won with a throw of 65 meters. ATM, she's arguably Japan's best athlete in world track and field (not counting 50k walk). Miura and Tanaka are world class but Kitaguchi brings in the wins/top 3 placements and she's higher ranked.

LOL? The question should really be "Should you use Facebook blah blah", and the answer is also: No.

They named their company Metadream? The word "meta" is pretty much cursed at this point.

This is wrong. It's just kids and young ppl using their older relatives' Mercari accounts to purchase kpop goods. I've seen it around here.

Posted in: Rescue mission under way at Azovstal steelworks in Ukraine as hundreds evacuated See in context

I don't understand this. Who evacuated the Ukrainian soldiers to towns controlled by Russia? It sounds like they will be traded for Russian prisoners of war held by Ukraine. Isn't this a prisoner exchange at this point? I'm asking seriously, if someone is willing to explain.

23.8% rate of vaccination among its adult population... You know, new variants just don't pop out of nowhere, unvaccinated people fuel them. So to South Africa: Vaccinate your citizens! Show the world your "excellent science" and planning skills.

Posted in: Junior high school boy dies after being stabbed by another student See in context

We have zero information as to why this happened and people here are already putting the blame in one of the following:

The train stabbing spree. Squid Game. Coronavirus. The media. Bullying.

RIP Yuzuki Ito.

Posted in: Mexican send-off See in context

There's been close to zero infrastructure development and economic support for high performance athletes in the current Mexican administration (and the last few...).

But yah, politicians and the public in general expect medals as if their athletes weren't barely scraping by; of course, except for soccer players and a handful others who can train abroad.

Good, a good number of countries have already done this. 10,000 tests are far from enough, though, specially if they're split between Tokyo, Osaka, and other prefectures. I'd like to see 50,000 for Tokyo and 100,000 for all of Japan.

Posted in: 10 troubled, triumphant years for the Michael Jackson estate See in context

I saw Leaving Neverland a few weeks ago. I had never payed any attention to the accusations or the trials against Michael Jackson through the last two decades of his life. Always thought it was a few crazed fans or greedy people close to him....

But if you watch that documentary, get read to be moved. the brutal truth is just undeniable. I cannot see, or listen to, Michael Jackson under the same light.

The "Michael Jackson Estate" might be alive and booming, but the man got away with many sick crimes...

This comments are so bitter. What'a up, can't handle Japanese people being successful overseas? The kid is doing great so far, it's gonna be near impossible to keep those numbers up but he already proved himself to be future Hall of Fame material. Go Ohtani!

I've eaten cactus in several dishes (soup, stews, tacos) and can confirm. "Nopal", as they call it in Mexico, is tasty, cheap, and highly nutritious.

What really boggles the mind is how people still buy/peruse these magazines when the internet is actually a thing. It's like they're stuck in the 70s and 80s.

Downright creepy. They're indoctrinating Korean youth into a rotten form of nationalism, while they could be promoting a fresh relationship between two nations that should be as tight as brothers.

Wrong price tag for the Rift. Rift motion controllers, as announced recently, are 200 USD. The Vive includes motion controllers from launch, over six months ago, so both sets end up costing the same if you want the full VR experience.

Despite her "mercy", her philosophy was scary. Sure, she provided accommodations to many very sick, dying, poor people, but some who witnessed the conditions of her centers were horrified: no analgesics, no real medical care. Why? Because she believed, over everything else, that suffering is a straight path to the divinity.
