Posted in: Trial begins for man over poisoning of 40 cats in Tokyo See in context

Give the guy a medal. There are too many noisy cats being fed by people that dont want them in their own homes.

Yeah, sure, that's a great idea. This nutjob poisoned and strangled these animals out of his "love" for them and we should honor him for it. Mind you, some of the cats he killed were people's pets, not strays.

Humans are at the root of the problem for irresponsibly adopting pets without spaying/neutering them and indiscriminately abandoning them when they decide they're too much trouble. But hey, let's just blame the animals. Your way's a lot easier.

oldman_13Jul. 11, 2014 - 01:10PM JST

Another high profile Japanese pitcher bust in the making.

Not hating, but being real.

Yeah, real dumb.

How does he have any control over a torn elbow ligament and how does his remarkable performance up until now in ANY way constitute a "bust"?

Plenty of people have had bad things to say about him, including when he forced a much more well-suited SS (Rodriguez) to move to 3rd instead of being the "heart of the team" captain and doing what's best for the team by going himself.

When the Yankees picked up A-Rod in 2004, Jeter had already been the incumbent shortstop for 8 years (4 World Series rings at that point) and there was never any intention of moving Jeter. Jeter's weakness was on ground to his left. A-Rod's increased range allowed Jeter to give up ground to his right to Rodriguez and cheat to the left. It improved the infield defensively.

A-Rod must have liked it at third base since we all know he signed the 10 year contract extension in 2007 that the Yankees ended up regretting.

Tanaka has been the Yankee's saviour thus far this season. What an amazing performance tonight and so far this season.

I really dislike how the media always brings up Tanaka's incredible unbeaten streak last regular season WITHOUT mentioning the fact that he blew it in Game 6 of the Japan Series.

Total BS! This clip from the NY Daily News' report on today's game is typical:

"Tanaka (6-0), who threw a season-high 114 pitches and is unbeaten in his last 42 regular-season starts in his native Japan and the majors. He hasn’t lost a regular-season game since Aug. 19, 2012, although he dropped a game in last year’s Japan Series."

I haven't heard one report where they didn't mention it.

Typical Yankee-hater BS and as for Jeter not being a team player because he announced his retirement before the season began.... Puh-leeze. He's the heart of the team, the captain and you would be hard-pressed to find anyone actually playing the game who had a bad thing to say about the guy.

Posted in: Tanaka says Yankees wanted him most See in context

The bullpen was never a problem and with Mariano Rivera's retirement, David Robertson should be ready to take the closer reins. "No hitting"?? McCann? Beltran?? Ellsbury??? OK, whatever you say. Now I will admit they have some infield issues with the aging Jeter and in need of an A-Roid replacement at third but there is no doubt the Yankees are championship contenders. Kershaw choked in the playoffs last year when it counted the most. Good luck there.

"In English we would probably call this kind of person a hermit or shut-in." -- The word "loser" comes to mind as well...

Wow, great compassion there. One can't help but wonder if you'd spout the same opinion if someone you personally cared about ever had to deal with those demons.

This one hits close to home because my in laws live in Takamatsu. There is a very good chance that any one of us could of been on that plane.

I live in Takamatsu. You and your in-laws wouldn't have been on this flight unless you were flying from Ube to Tokyo. The plane was diverted here for the emergency landing.

Just when I was starting to get worried about the Yankees making next to no moves in the pre-season. I should have had more faith in Brian Cashman. Yankees are now clear favorites to repeat as AL East champs.

I have never liked Princess Kiko's fake smile and I always will.

Shouldn't that be, "and I never will"?

Or maybe he meant "I have always liked...." Hard to tell.

"Just weak people! It is a Japahetic society!"

I love the Japan-bashing in these comments on almost every story, usually from the same readers.

This incident, with it's taunters urging him to go through with the act, was hardly a Japanese innovation. In 2008 an American teen named Abraham Biggs killed himself on Justin.tv to the same sort of chorus of depraved cheerleaders. Google Abraham Biggs for all the details.

Sorry, to burst your Japan-hating bubble, Disillusioned.

The "son" you mention's father was the victim killed in the building when it was struck by the plane. His father was a hero. What a tragedy, and this kook daughter is indeed as mentally ill as her father was and should be institutionalized so that she doesn't end up hurting innocent people either.

I travel the Yonago Expressway quite often on the way to and from Mt Daisen for skiing and it can be treacherous at times with snow and ice. Mandatory tire chains are often enforced. I agree that it appears one or both of these cars was traveling at a far higher speed than is advised.

Anyway, this is clearly just a case of mental illness for the TV smasher so obviously anything could have set him off, even a presidential speech. I do agree with sensei258 that it's just fortunate he took out his aggressions on TV sets and not fellow customers.

In fact, an incident where Jinnai had yelled at Fujiwara and demanded that she get on her knees to apologize for bringing up his extramarital affairs had made the headlines

I must have missed the "might have" on this one.

I'd say domestic violence is a newsworthy issue, particularly in a high-profile case such as this one. It isn't restricted to physical abuse either.
