They, except for Takuya Kimura, sounded like they were scared of something.

They can simply write a short explanation for that on maps for foreigners.

This whole news remind me of the cold war between the USA and the Soviet Union over countries in Latin America. Let Taiwan enjoy its right to be independent if it wants to.

The sound Geta makes is one of its good attributes. It would be much better if they make Geta more modern and easy to wear. Sneakers? Too casual for Kimono.

they aren’t going to help me write emails or speak up in meetings,” he says. “So I can’t see MOOCs helping with these areas.”

This is where universities can help its students. Just like 'flipped learning', they can provide some more classes in which students are required to be creative and communicate with others.

I like parties which have both Japanese and Western aspects. I mean, parties where you can move around and sit down wherever you like. In that way, you can enjoy talking with different people and rest you feet without feeling that awkward. Doesn't that sound good to you?

Posted in: Republicans rush to shut U.S. borders to Syrian refugees See in context

Considering the treat ISIS just gave that they are planning to do the same to Washington, it's understandable the U.S. takes cautious measures. But what if people who are sympathized with ISIS dogma are already in the U.S.? That thought just gives me chills up my spine.

Posted in: In honor of Paris See in context

Another terrible news. I'm pretty sure that many countries will attack ISIS as retaliation and that ISIS will say "They killed our brothers." This seems endless. What's a possible breakthrough here? A negotiation? probably no..... I don't know what should be done any more.

Thanks to various comments, I've started considering things from a different point of view, so I don't want the system to be banned. However, it's true that I sometimes find crude and vulgar words which make me feel uncomfortable. Provided that it won't be too restrictive, maybe some "language detector" would be great.

Why would ISIS claim want to claim it responsibility for this? To show the world how cruel and determined they are? If so, that's too dull.

Japan definitely should accept more refugees, but I'm a little bit concerned about terrorism. Some idea for preventing terrorism is needed at the same time.

Am I hallucinated or something? Am I reading what I think I'm reading?

Fans, if you like an idol soooo much, why not let the idol live a normal life? It looks like that idols are suffering from neo-slavery.

Posted in: University lecturer calls out his lazy Japanese students, praises his hard-working Chinese ones See in context

Well, lazy people never study abroad.

It's sad to know that there are pupils who can't appreciate the academic opportunity even in one of the famous universities in Japan. Although, this is a predictable outcome of a society which focuses overly on academic credentials.

Posted in: Opponents of immigration in Japan, particularly political conservatives and members of right-wing groups, argue that Japan is a single ethnic group and cannot easily absorb people from other cultures. See in context

Japan has almost completely a single ethic group since it is surrounded by the sea, and it has a culture in which conformity is important. It doesn't mean that Japan should avoid accepting immigrants, however, on the contrary, I think it should accept them little by little in order to make up for the workforce shortage and to make Japanese people more tolerant to the ethical diversity.

Posted in: Ready or not, Japan on the way to becoming a nation of immigrants See in context

Japan should do something about its own people who are between jobs first. As the society is aging, it's obvious that Japan will need more workforce, so why not accept immigrants gradually?

I'm not sure, but doesn't this sort of partnership or agreement make the relation among countries worse in the long run? (i.e. TPP countries vs EU ones, or countries which are not a member of any partnership) I mean, wouldn't some countries have difficulty finding trade-partner ?

wow.

This reminds me of my having imagined as a child what if I attached tens of thousands of cameras to all over a box, and make each camera project the opposite side of it so that it looks as if you're seeing through the box. I wonder if it can be materialized :D

Invisibility cloak...It's fascinating, but come to think of it, it's kind of scary too because it can hide ANYTHING.

Posted in: Japan set for historic defense policy shift See in context

@ Daniel Neagari

First, I'm not denying Japan of the right of SD.

I think I have to admit that it's unfair for allies that Japan can't exercise the right of collective self defense while they help Japan when it faces danger, but virtual declaration of relinquishment of waging war is still appealing to me.

The world might need something little aggressive to maintain peace, but at the same time, it needs something remind us how cruel wars can be, and I believe Japan can play that role by sticking to the article 9.
