Posted in: Japan's indifference to 'Gangnam Style' riles S Korea See in context

Anyone in Korea that has problems with this may want to dig into the history. Ozone's global charting Europe wide # 1 happened two years after it did in Europe. Scatman did likewise. Eurodance novelties like Gangnam Style take longer to break in Japan. The additional problem of PSY breaking here this time, is that the charts themselves have been dominated with so many K Pop acts that there's a chance he's competing with over-marketed hitmakers from his own country aside all of those others challenging for a chart position.

One rehab start after Tommy John surgery and he gets ripped. People truly need a hobby.

Posted in: Igawa home after disastrous Yankee years See in context

He had no shot ever getting in a Yankee uniform again even after winning more games in Scranton than anyone. Girardi and his ego had no place for him. Should have made sure they traded him to San Diego, a dead ball park when the inquiry came in. Peter Gammons, late of ESPN discussed that Guidry changed his windup and killed whatever mechanics he had. He was never the same and got whacked everywhere in the MLB. Too bad.

I hope he has great years ahead of him. Nice of Ron Guidry to ruin him and get him banished forever.

Posted in: Japan tourism still suffering one year on from quake See in context

Flights are almost 1500.00 from Toronto to Tokyo at the present time. Needless to say, all factors have to be looked at. And nobody is looking it here in Canada.

Posted in: Yankees complete 1-year deal with pitcher Kuroda See in context

The guy is a beast. Wished like hell the Blue Jays would have overpaid for him. This guy is a winner, and I agree with what @ElJeffeinJapan wrote: the Dodgers were rarely putting runs on the board for him. Good luck with the Yanks, Kuroda san.

We had it grilled this week and tempura style and it's fantastic...don't understand how kids don't like it.. but then again, I hate green and red peppers...

Posted in: Darvish set for majors move See in context

$ 80m is way too much. I wonder if he ends up in Seattle...that would be a perfect fit. Arm Tellem has to be wary of the Yankees after the Igawa debacle. This guy is worth it however...let the chase begin !

So proud of these ladies. What a gutsy effort. I cannot believe their perseverance to win. No matter if they win the title 10 times, nothing will be as sweet as this maiden victory. Sawa is all world. What a leader, what a team. And now, they're the champs !!!

Posted in: Japan beats Sweden 3-1 for place in final See in context

Played their hearts out...never expected them to be a good Swedish team by two goals. Cannot wait for the final, and hope they win. The US team is good, but I think the Nadeshikos are gonna take it !

Posted in: Japan beats Germany to make Women's WCup semis See in context

@freakshow, the elimination of the Germans by the Samurai Ladies gives ESPN the chance to oversell the USA chances to win in order to get a wider viewership. The Americans are a very good team as @JohnBecker mentioned. Anybody getting past Brazil, especially if Marta is on her game like usual will be quite a task.

An absolute nailbiter, but the ladies did Japan so proud. A perfect shot, with no hesitation and no fear. Sugoi, Nippon !!!

Posted in: Matsuzaka has Tommy John Surgery See in context

I see him coming back. But the conditioning and the weight gain issues have to be controlled. His stuff has to be as heavy as his belt line. Irabu did the same thing. When they're on, they're unhittable. When they hit the bistros, it's another story.

A note to Yu-na: This what you end up looking like when the hype off the ice doesn't match who you can be on the ice.

Miki Ando, champion has a wonderful ring to it. Congratulations !

This must not be a Kyodo wire story, otherwise the headline would have read "Mao off to slow start, hopes for better finish".

Hope Miki wins it all.

Posted in: Mao Asada reclaims top spot in image survey See in context

During the Olympics in Vancouver, Mao-chan was simply the only face you ever saw on TV in Japan. @smithinjapan absolutely has it nailed. She has been courted since she was a kid. It is truly unfortunate that Mao also gets all the ink, all the visuals and all the space at the expense of all of the others in the public eye. All we can do is change the channel, wait five minutes, and change it again. I'm not hating on her at all. Facts are facts.

No credit on the story..but Braden threw a perfect game, not just a no hitter..if Matsui-san can get one more year out of his knees, hopefully he enjoys it.

Posted in: Mao Asada hoping for good result in Paris See in context

She could fall 166 times in one routine, Miki-san could win by 500 points and Mao-chan will get all the press. What a joke.
