Its easy to point fingers but that isnt going to help and its clear this was an accident.

I personally check the baby seat 2-3 times since we are all running a rat race and sadly horrible accidents like this happen even to the best of people.

Sadly there isnt a silverbullet hopefully someday, we have alert systems that are standard in cars that warn you that a child if left in the car. They exist, but not mainstream. until then

Nursery should followup when a child doesnt show up.

Check, double check and tripple check the car seat when you lock your car.

If you notice a child in a car, call the police.

Posted in: The Japanese government is offering families 1 million yen to relocate from Tokyo in an effort to revitalize towns across the country. Do you think this is a good idea? See in context

1m JPY is a step in the right direction, but depending on the number of children, will be spent quickly with relocation expenses and key deposits.

The limiting factor continues to be employment in rural areas which has not been addressed. So if the government really wants to people to relocate outside of Tokyo they need policies that continue to push companies to support remote work and cover long distance commuting expenses. As well as tax incentives for new startups and offices in rural areas.

Posted in: U.S., Japan agree to keep troops on base to curb COVID spread See in context

This is a complete failure by US Forces Japan leadership and conmanders. Not those stationed here. There is not reason there is a double standard for entry into the country. Whether on a commerical flight or military flight.

This has been a problem since the pandemic started with complete lack of consistency and standards across US forces. With each base and military branch stationed in Japan having their own rules that in many cases contradict each other.

As such there needs to be accountability to the USFJ leadership and those who made the decision for allowing this to occur. Especially given the bad press in the past.

Hopefully the Japanese gov takes a more active role in oversight of their borders and USFJ compliance as a result of this.
