30% of the population takes some kind of antidepressant. People are stressed out and are taking out their frustration on their kids. its cowardly but I am pretty sure child abuse has been endemic even before covid. This is a tough society to have kids and if I were to advise someone, I would tell them to refrain from having kids over here.

I may not have agreed with his politics but I hope he rests in peace. There are a lot of negative things about him but he really represented what Japanese politicians thought in general. He was more straightforward and frank. I preferred him to other politicians who were more likely to engage in tatemae.
