TWELVE years for essentially murdering a 5-year old?

Japan's 'Justice' system is an absolute joke. You'd almost get as muich if you robbed a convenience store.

Weak. Weak. Weak.

They deserve to rot in a cell until they die.

The stimulus budgets are always used to help out their mates in the major JP companies; the so-called 'trickle-down economics.

I bet Nestle and the other big industrials couldn't care less whether their chocolate came from child labour.

The irony is, is that I bet a majority of consumers, an dprobably some new ones, would be willing to pay more for chocolate that was 'properly' produced. Brand association and optics are everything to these companies...

Posted in: Japan's automakers unveil EVs galore at Tokyo show to catch up with Tesla, other rivals See in context

I really hope Japan moves to EV soon.

Moving to the inaka in June, we bought (got a loan) on an IONIQ 5 in June. Although Hyundai have only shifted around 150 units this year, I don't regret it at all. Cost was a little over 6m BUT we were able to get a subsidy of 680,000 JPY

Point being, though, Japan does lag behind in terms of infrastructure, although more EV poinst are cropping up along highways and local areas.

Range is good - get real-world distance of about 430+ km on a full charge.

In terms of cost, I estimate it's half the cost of 'gas' / petrol for full tank, helped by Solar Power storage from our roof. Everyone around us has 2 or 3 cars and must spend a fortune on gas which is currently at 158 JPY per litre.

Decrease in exhaust fumes and respiratory illness alone is worth the switch to electric.

Exactly. Ask which car they'd prefer to be locked in a garage with, with the engine running.

As an aside, for anyone thinking of having ahome charger installed, we had a charging point installed at home too. Our housemaker installed what they claimed was an EV plug, but it turned out to be only 3kw (surprise - for JP-made PHVs / EVs) as opposed to the 6kw required for most foreign makers.

Im not sure how I understand how this is the first Sheraton in Japan. There is a couple in Tokyo, and at least one in Yokohama.

Yokohama is an "& Towers", and Hiroshima and Tokyo Disney Sea are Grande labels, but under the Sheraton brand.

But yeah, kind of misleading...

I often wonder what Deacon makes of all of this. Silent nodding partner, maybe, but my gosh, he must be wincing on the inside. There were rumours he was going to release solo material in '23 or '24, but that remains to be seen.

To posters writing about homelessness issue in LA... This is why we pay TAXES - to help the needy. and less well-off.

Expedia spend $1bn on R&D alone/. Anually, Apple... well, how many of you wrote your review on your iPhone? Why heap all the problems at Bezos' feet over a movie premiere?

I don't approve of Bezos' work practices for a minute, but to tie a movie premier (a huge part of which the budget went to the Tolkein estate for the rights alone) is just nonsenssical at best.

And as for how it compares to the unfinished tales - well, there are strict conditions attached to the rights - limiting 'artistic creativity' so it shouldn't be too bad at worse....

Why do they NEVER report how many people of the hospitalised have been vaccinated?

'Infections' is meaningless. Focus on the deaths, hospitalised and how many of them were vaccinated. That's the data they need to be working from.

Members of Japan's version of the secret service, the elite Security Police, appeared to be standing at Abe's right and just behind him in their dark suits...

...There appeared to be a pause of 10-20 seconds before Yamagami was tackled, Nakajima said. Nara police told reporters they became aware of Yamagami after the first shot. They declined to say if security had been lax.

Ya THINK?

From what I saw / read / heard, hardly any of them, if any, were facing behind. Utter incompetence.

A 10-second delay proves this.

Japan inbound tourism has been my career for the past 12 years - this is the most stupid thingi I have seen - which takes some beating,

This 'trial' period, lasting through to October, is just utterly stupid / riduclous. It is ALL a massive saving face exercise so that the govt. can tell the people "See? We protected and did everything cautiously."

They know there's no science behind it; just like there was no science back in August 2020 when they were requring non-JP returnees to take a PCR, but not the Japanese national returnees.

Nothing to add to the above comments - cartels, racism, and dragging feet.
