I watched 9/11 massacres live on TV. There's no way it was demolition. I believe it was Al-Qaida.

Can you home-school in Japan? After the school couldn't/ or wouldn't do anything I'd take the child out of the school if I were able. Something needs to be changed in what morals Japanese kids are learning in a school setting, bullying to that extent is NOT ok. They were still babies in my eyes! So young.. :[

Posted in: Should U.S. President Barack Obama visit Hiroshima and Nagasaki when he comes to Japan in November? See in context

@ MistWizard You obviously weren't paying attention to the Japanese media because when I said "half the people complained about it" I was talking about the Japanese commentary.

And to be honest stormcrow makes a good point, what Japanese PM has ever gone to Nanjing, and apologized for that atrocity? Or have any Japanese PM ever apologized for kidnapping and raping thousand of Korean women over multiple decades? or apologized for conducting experiments on Chinese people who they considered less than human?.. no I didn't think so.

What's the point? The U.S. sent someone during the memorial and half the people complained about it.

I don't really care about this, it ain't really news, but those voting should know, Obama didn't do it just once, but seven times since it happened. BP and Obama are both idiots.

Nice use of under-toned America bashing some posters are using. America doesn't refuse to use renewable energies or alternative energies. We have been using them since their creation. The fact is is that this better technology is very expensive and despite the Rich stereotypes that we have, the majority of the population can't afford environmentally friendly things. Maybe when they become commercially available people will change. We use solar power, wind power, hydroblah blah. Get the picture? We don't refuse anything.

Also, there is more than one base for the different branches of the military, and then some are just storage, runways, etc.

Posted in: Anti-base ad See in context

Not to mention that if we leave all bases at least 10+% more of their population gets unemployed. I don't think it's a smart move on their part.. but man do I want it to happen so I can laugh in their face on how dumb their decision was.

I know I'll be an ass for saying this, but I hope we leave and then North Korea goes nuts and attacks Japan. Man, we're there not only for their protection but South Korea's.. ours. Let them protect themselves then.

Posted in: Cultures collide with Toyoda testimony See in context

This is not an American conspiracy to kill Toyota, because the Toyoda factories in America employ Americans and certain states rely on those factory jobs. I'm currently studying abroad in Japan and I'm honestly shocked as to why US lawmakers are acting so derogatory towards the Toyota situation. The lawmakers in the US are making a big deal out of this story to pursue their own political agenda. Unfortunately they are doing more harm than good. US lawmakers should learn a thing or two about another culture before they deal with them. And as a second note: I'm not all against the US's side as well, Toyoda studied in the US and does a lot of business with the US, so how in the world can he and his PR rep be so out of touch with the American perspective on business?

Posted in: Blair fights for his legacy as he defends Iraq war See in context

Every religious person seeks guidance from their gods, but Bush and Blair didn't kill millions of people based off of their religious beliefs. Bush went to Iraq because of false information, to protect the oil trade, and to prevent another attack from happening. Blair I believe went along with the US for similar reasons. Britain has its fair share of home grown terrorist attacks. Not saying the war was justified or not, I just don't believe the two were religious fanatics, religious- maybe, but fanatics definitely not.

Posted in: Lone shooter kills 8 in central Virginia See in context

When I lived in the US I personally liked having my gun, it made me feel safe because I lived near the inner city.

People that go crazy and shoot people usually have a history of violent or psychotic behavior that goes unchecked. Fix that and we fix a big part of the problem. But just changing one things doesn't fix everything. There are some areas that don't do background checks, so yeah there are places that need to pre-screen people before they sell guns to them.

And you can't generalize and say Americans don't value life and are all paranoid. You create this imagined community based on what you pick to read or see about Americans and it skews your view of them.

Posted in: Clinton says critics of U.S. relief effort in Haiti misguided See in context

I can't believe the criticism against the US effort. Everyone in the military gets medical training and they are organized and efficient and they make the perfect relief helpers. The US uses them on their own disasters why wouldn't they send their best to other countries?

To just drop off the aid and leave would be ridiculous because the people would take whatever they want and there would be people without stuff. Someone needs to organize it, the US military does that and then hands it off to people when they are no longer needed, they are not taking over.. that is just dumb.
