Posted in: Student turns herself in to police over alleged university exam cheating See in context

Am I the only one who's now super curious what the question was?

Posted in: WHO staff accuse Japanese director of racist, abusive behavior See in context

The internal complaint and email describe a "toxic atmosphere" with "a culture of systemic bullying and public ridiculing"...

Why would an internal complaint to WHO be describing the office I work in? Have they got cameras in here??

That undergrad who found this better be getting the recognition he/she deserves, rather than the professors taking all the credit.

I am more curious what the response was when he made that call. What did the opposite side say?

Awful lot of armchair immunologists in these comments sections. I'd like to see some diplomas, please.

Posted in: Man gets suspended sentence for killing and injuring about 100 cats See in context

A suspended sentence for torturing and killing 100 cats, huh? Wow. So, how many cats can you kill before you actually have to do jail time?

By extension, then, just imagine how terrific it would be to have three jobs!

Leisure time with friends and family is for lazy chumps.

Less monkey business, more vaccinations. I fail to understand how Japan, a modern developed nation, has bungled the handling of vaccines so badly.

Burning Bush, the point you make is specifically addressed in the article.

"However, there is no legal definition as to what it means to "participate voluntarily," and it is up to the participants to consider whether their "voluntariness" was expressed in words or actions, senior legal manager at the Swedish Prosecution Authority Hedvic Trost said during a press conference in Tokyo."

Not convinced there is any meaningful difference between an organization using state funds, and an organization that is tax exempt and therefore subsidized by the state.

I absolutely hate this policy. 28 is just too damn hot. Plus, I cannot remember the last time a government inspector came by the office to do a surprise inspection of our thermostat....

Posted in: Osaka train driver apologizes to Japanese passengers for ‘having many foreigners’ on board See in context

If the driver had said "tourists" instead of "foreigners", I think I would be in support of him. Tourists can be pretty obnoxious anywhere, not just in Kansai. I'd rather all of us foreign residents in Japan weren't automatically painted with that brush, though.

Police said they are considering whether the parents should be charged with child abandonment.

I would like to know how this isn't the very definition.

"Not too different"? Really? Can we please get an honest-to-goodness measure of statistical significance here? We have science for a reason.
