Posted in: Police carry out nationwide crackdown on dangerous driving See in context

Does bad driving include running red lights (especially when turning right), having the T.V on and using their phone while driving? If YES, the police seem to be turning a blind eye to those things in the city I live in.

He started beating the baby 1 month after her birth!? This man should definitely/obviously be in jail. Wonder what will happen to him though...

Nice Judge Dredd reference. Can't help but voice it in Sly's accent. "I am the law". It is quite funny though that so many J-cops break the law. I only find it funny because Japan pretends to be such a safe, law abiding country. But if their own police are constantly breaking the law... that's just a joke. Deal with it logically J-gov. Super harsh penalties for police who break the law. Stop protecting your own and setting the wrong example.

He would know that it may have caused death, so, perhaps his intention was to kill her? Of course typical J-logic only gave him a 7 year prison term.

Posted in: Australia warns FIFA over World Cup date switch See in context

Australia should have won the right to host the world cup. In a recent club friendly between Liverpool and Melbourne FC they had almost 100,000 spectators at the game. More than most Euro clubs will ever get. And that was just a club friendly! Imagine a world cup. The issue of the soaring heat in Qatar should have been addressed during their bid. Not after. I think that would have given other bidding countries more of a chance.

Posted in: Hokkaido onsen bars Maori woman over her face tattoos See in context

I agree with a lot of other posters here. Japan discriminates against not only people with tattoos, but gaijin too. We are treated differently. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. I have visible lower arm tattoos and trust me, it's not easy to feel normal here or be treated normally. I often feel like a complete outcast. I truly hope, for Japans sake, they can change their view of tattoos, at least among obviously non Yakuza affiliated gaijin.

Will Apple do anything with the fingerprint data they collect? They'd then have a lot of essential data about us minus our DNA. Very valuable information to governments, no?

Sorry ladies, but many of you also leave the seat up. The covering seat that is! I always keep mine down and I have noticed 95% of the time my female guests use the toilet, that seat stays up. Keeping em both down just keeps everyone happy.

Publicly defame bullying. Explain how it makes the bulliers look weak and insecure. Attend to the problem at it's source.

Well said kimuzukashiiiii. And fake goes hand in hand with fake-clean. Have you seen how filthy kitchens are in restaurants? Especially busy fast food chains. Classier restaurants seem to be OK but from what I have seen, I sometimes wonder if health inspectors exist here, and if they do, boy are they getting some hefty pay offs to tic all the wrong boxes.

Isn't the sailor suit uniform for younger girls? Junior high or elementary? Can't recall. What does that tell you about Japanese men...!

Posted in: 104 traffic fatalities reported during Obon holidays See in context

This doesn't surprise me. I know road fatalities are always bad during holidays seasons (all around the world), but when I rode my motorbike during Obon this year I had numerous close calls with car drivers rushing to the next red light, only for me to pass them again up the middle. The 'one vehicle per lane' rule doesn't seem to apply or be enforced by the police enough where I live. Very sad to see the stats though, especially of those on bikes and pedestrians.

Have we met this month's quota yet for J-police blunders? Not yet? Still time for another then. Yokatta. I'm sure I'll need another laugh by the end of the month.

I agree with tmarie. I know people here who would pay triple to fly with a Japanese carrier rather than go a little out of their way, distance/time wise, to fly with a foreign LCC.

Posted in: 500 cats & dogs legally killed in Japan each day See in context

I live in Kumamoto and I have to say, I see very large number of stray cats around. Sometimes dogs too. I think it is great they try and discourage the owner from resorting to handing their pet into the shelter. But it may also encourage people to avoid such a place/embarrassment and just let their pet go somewhere away from their home. National advertising requited: A pet is a pet for life. Not a toy. Etc...

Posted in: How to prevent your child from causing bicycle accidents that can get you sued See in context

Those laws aren't really governed anyway. I see heaps of people use umbrellas, mp3 players and phones while riding. I don't agree with the phone usage but I don't see how umbrellas and mp3 players are too big of an issues. It's the same as listening to music while driving! Teach cyclists to be aware and considerate. While they are at it, teach drivers the same thing. If the J-gov wasn't so afraid to actually speak up there are probably a million tiny niggling problems that could easily be made aware of and their consequences decreased.

Stories like this baffle me. This further concretes my opinion that the law in Japan is outdated.

Posted in: Peeping Tom cop attempts suicide during questioning See in context

Sounds like there is more to it than just a little peeping. He probably was worried he would have been busted for a more severe crime he committed but is yet to be busted for (or was busted for but the police aren't telling the public about).

Posted in: Has preferential treatment for women gone too far in Japan? See in context

Thanks to such public figures as police, teachers, doctors, etc, who are often caught sexually abusing women (touching, upskirt pics, etc) then I believe NO, it hasn't gone too far. Justly punish those types of offenders to fully deter them and then maybe women of Japan can start to feel a little safer.

Posted in: 2-year-old girl dies after being hit by vehicle in supermarket car park See in context

Not only in Japan (however I should probably add 'especially' in Japan), people over a certain age should have compulsory driving tests to see if they are still safe drivers. Actually, where I live, most people are hopeless drivers. I am often surprised that people like the ones I see don't cause many accidents. Kids on bicycles too. Head down, texting, veering all over the place. How they don't get hit by a car baffles me.

Posted in: Body of baby found buried in baseball field; 17-year-old woman arrested See in context

Who's fault is this? The governments! Why? This kind of thing seems to happen far too often. Educate teenagers at schools and universities that it is safe, confidential and most importantly, not shameful to have a child and want to give it up for adoption or find it a guardian or safe place to live. LIVE! Educate them! It is not that difficult! Take some freekin responsibility and educate them! Very sad for all parties. RIP to the baby, sympathy goes out to the mother and to the young lads who found the baby. It has surely changed their lives forever.

Again, the J-police fail to make an example of their own. Surely we will read of another story like this (about a police officer or similar) by the end of the year if not sooner.
