There is no FIFA ranking for U23 teams ... You know. They had a lot of pressure because it was a crucial game away, they did their job, congrats to them. Asking for more is not knowing a whole lot about football.

lol at people thinking Pacquiao fights in the US primary because the big fights are there. It's primary because the big money is there. What about that big fight everybody is dying to see but which will never happen because both fighters want the biggest part of the money ?

Boxers aim to make money and if Japan is the best place to do it, why not ? US fighters fight in the US too so stop being ridiculous with this argument.

Do you have a problem with ambitious people ? Geez if only Honda was only talk, but he's racking up the achievements these past two years. Before getting injured by a murderous tackle, he was already at 7 goals in 13 matches with CSKA. He's a true leader and a guy who can back up his talk, good luck to him.

Everytime a player makes a comment outside the box, different from "I lost because he was better than me", it is considered as an excuse ? He explains he has to improve physically, that Murray is better than him at this part of the game. Is it wrong ?

Not very surprising considering he is used to beat Tsonga, but it was really fantastic to watch. The next round is going to be very difficult though, Murray is a lot fresher. But I believe !

Uehara was much older, it's not really a good argument. He would have been a great MLB started if he had come at the same age of Chen.

In fact, his arrogance is what got them into trouble at some points during either the WC or Asian Cup (I forget). He kept trying to put it in himself instead of making passes, and he'd kick it into the stands or over the net.

The competitions in which he scored several goals ? MVP of the Asian Cup ? Please. Criticizing Honda while he is a great model of success ...

This signature just proves Iwakuma wasn't asking for a "Barry Zito" contract last year and people who could kept saying it all year long as a way to bash him should be ashamed of themselves.

Oka played from 18 to 22 with Yokohama, that's what I meant, he was hardly a developed pitcher when he made the jump and his stats were weak. Then he went on to dominate the AAA level and got promoted in the MLB. Tadano has never been a good NPB pitcher.

Hideki Matsui, Kaz Matsui, Iguchi, Takatsu, Kawakami, Saito, Irabu, Oka, Mtasuzaka, Sasaski, Yabu, Uehara, Tazawa, HIsanori Takahashi, Igawa, Nishioka, Tateyama, Mac Suzuki, Hasegawa, Kashiwada, Yoshii, Kida, Shinjo, Nomura, Komiyama, Ishii, Taguchi, Nakamura, Jojima, Otsuka, Kuwata, Iwamura, Igarashi, Kurota, Ken Takahashi

Congratulation on pasting this long list but Oka, Mac Suzuki and Tazawa never played in the NPB for example and Shinjo or Taguchi never were above average players. On that list, there is quite a few successfull such as Johjima who was one of the best catchers in the first two years, Uehara, Tateyama, Hisanori Takahashi, Otsuka, Iwamura, Iguchi, Sasaki, etc ...

The slider looks unhittable, but the fastball velocity is nothing special.

With his current velocity he would have one of the best FB in the majors.

Ippon : 10 points, match over, Waza-Ari : 7 points, if you score two it's an ippon and the match is over, Yuko : 5 points. You can score 15 Yuko for example, if your opponent scored a waza-ari you still lose.

timeon and techall > My bad, thanks ! But I really think Darvish doesn't speak english, I know people who tried to speak to him in this language and I remember a story of Jeff Passan saying he couldn't. Maybe he improved. I don't think he had the time honestly.

Darvish should absolutely succeed anyway, Kuroda has been great in the states, his record would be much better if wasn't playing for the Dodgers, and he never put a serie of 4 straight under 2.00 ERA as Darvish. Dar has the high velocity fastball, the 90 mph slider, the cutter, he can throw anything. The tools are here, now it's about his adjustment to the new culture.

Smith > Iwakuma didn't demand a big salary, you should stop with this already. His agent confirmed it.

Darvish is 100% japanese. He grew up here, I bet he doesn't speak a word of Iranian. If someones knows ... I'll be glad to be proved wrong. What I know is that he doesn't speak english at all unfortunately so that might be a hurdle but he's so good that I don't think it will be a problem.

Nakajima. I do hope Darvish signs with the Yankees, if he makes it big it will mean he's one of the best. But as for Nakajima, I think he should stay one more year in Japan and then come back as a FA with a team which will give him a starting role.

To be the champ you have to beat the champ. So saying they wouldn't hold their own anywhere else is stupid. Besided, Japanese TV channels offer good money for the fights so you can't blame the fighters for trying to make a living, it's a tremendously difficult sport. Nobody would be interested in a main event with a Japanese boxer in the states. And nobody questions why top US boxers do not fight outside the US, it's weird ...

sfjp330 > Mike Hessman is the HR recordman in the minors. He couldn't even hit for power here. Players like Rusty Ryal or Josh Fields were worse in Japan than in the States. It's all about making adjustments and it's the same for Japanese players. Suketto players willing to commit in Japan usually improve, you see guys like Colby Lewis, Giancarlo Alvarado or Bryan Bullington, I'm sure they are thankful for what Japan brought us. They'd do fine Major Leaguers now. We got that the NPB isn't the MLB and it's gonna surprise you but the fans are fine with it. You don't need to be an hater ... but wait, that's what people do the best on that "Sports" section. Hate.

Some of the best AAA hitters doesn't make it in Japan. Mike Hessman, the HR recordman in the minors, hit .196 with 7 HR. The NPB is a AAAA league as many scouts have told in the past.

Ah and also, Nishioka isn't a great example, he's had his terrible years in Japan too.

When you play for your nation, the game ALWAYS matters - make no mistake about that, Clement.

Factually it didn't matter because we were already qualified for the next round, no doubt the players were disappointed but I bet they're glad to escape this without any injury. It was a violent match, there was no aerial challenge without an elbow in the face, no touch without a little kick behind your legs. North Korea had a red card but it could have been worse for them.

Sounds a bit like a Volleyball game in Japan (always on home turf with 99% support of the crowd)

Except anybody is allowed to come and cheer his team ...

Not a pretty game, very violent, hopefully they came back without any injury. The result didn't really matter.
