Kitzrow - I may know you, I'm Cliff Woolley, I taught for JAL and JALCOS 15 years from around 1980 including during this tragedy. I took Kyu Sakamoto's widow and daughters to some musicals in Hawaii, we all cried our eyes out. Feel free to drop me a line at cliffworks.net.

I applaud the press for being honest, am tired of reading Japanese are superhumans, always polite and honest. Take it from this victim, there are good and bad folks in every country, no exceptions.

Posted in: Why do Japanese celebrities featured in photos or stories on Japan Today frequently come in for a lot of derision from some readers? See in context

In my opinion the articles featuring Japanese celebs on JT contain no meat, no substance and are pure crap. Just posting Ms. Junko Tanaka has been appointed ABC Company Mascot of the year is not journalism, it's drivel. If JT spent a little time doing proper interviews, presenting their subject matter in an intelligent yet entertaining manner instead of insulting the intelligence of its readers, I'll bet more readers would be grateful, starting with me.

Moderator: We frequently carry in-depth interviews with Japanese celebs in the Entertainment/Arts section in Features and have done so for the past nine years.

Guns Germs & Steel is classified as science /history, not historical /fiction, was winner of Rhone-Poulenc Science Book Prize, no easy accomplishment. I will write to Jared Diamond and ask him.

Using a Maori War Dance to prommote anything (but war) is barbaric. The Moriori's are groaning in their graves. In 1835, 900 Maori warriors armed with guns, clubs and axes, sailed to the Chatham Islands, butchered and ate the peaceful Moriori population who had renounced war, killing the entire race like sheep. A Maori conqueror explained, ‘We took possession, in accordance with our customs and we caught and killed all the people. Not one escaped. But what of that?’ Jared Diamond in Guns, Germs and Steel.

Glorifying war through dance and other art forms is a sign of the violent nature of man; to be attracted by such displays proves we haven't evolved.

Look at all the ridiculous concrete gravesites everywhere coating the earth, killing all growth. When a human body dies, let it go, cremate it and say goodbye. No need for egotistical monuments to the dead. Do your venorating at home.

The original members of Pink Floyd only sold 70% when they came here and played the Yoyogi Oympic Stadium but maybe local tribute acts playing small venues can get by. Any music played live is better than prerecorded, sampled, looped crap. Support live music.

Disillusioned's comments are morbidly hilarious, thanks for cheering us up! The Japanese fellow who intentionally hit me with his car while I was walking home in a pedestrain zone, then jumped out, savagely assaulted me in front of Japanese eyewitnesses, left my body lying in the road & fled the crime scene, was found guilty of assault, fined 300,000 JPY of which I received nothing, and released. No jail time at all, no suspended sentence. go figure.

Do any of the so called actors in japan ever study with acknowledged acting educators, pay their dues honing their craft in rep theater productions, get bit parts on TV, then perhaps the big screen, or are they all scouted at a very early age, given a little coaching and voila, are 'actors?'

chotto: I write from personal experience, was myself assaulted, kicked the head many times by a J thug, witnesses called 119, AZABU FIRE DPT dispatched the ambulance, for our area Meguro there are 4 different providers of ambulance services, 55SpeedRacer5; you are correct; kicking someone in the head, no matter how many times and how savagely, as the court proved in my case, is only assault, not attempted manslaughter. Such is the Japanese mockery of justice.

Posted in: Falconry exhibition See in context

Falconers are extremely dedicated to their birds, can you imagine getting up at 0300 0400 every morning to walk your bird through the fields hunting for prey? All of the accessories used by J falconers are painstakingly made by hand. Mr. Susumu Takahashi had to court his Goshawks lovingly before they accepted him as their human 'mate,' and allowed him to build a nest in the aviary.

I wish JT would have posted a notice before the event. I took my kids years ago and it was excellent. For anyone interested have a read of Susumu Takahashi's book Sodatte, Taka No Akachan! Author Mr. Takahashi with help of his nurse wife, successfully artificially impregnated a goshawk, raised the chicks, helped them learn to hunt then released them near Mt. Fuji. Upon Takahashi san's death his wife attached tiny fragmenets of his bones to the talons of all his birds and released them all. RIP
