More like a gold medal for Scotland, the real home of curling.

The International Skating Federation ended up crediting it to Yuzu, so you DID in fact see the quad axel for the first time in Olympic competition.

I feel sorry for her if it does turn out that she took a banned substance based on the advice of a trusted figure such as a coach. That was what happened to Andrea Raducan, a young Romanian gymnast who won the women's all-around gymnastics gold at the Sydney 2000 games. She took a cold medication containing pseudoephedrine given to her by a coach and ended up losing her gold medal. Her Romanian teammate, Simona Amanai, ended up with the gold.

I wish it wasn't, but it IS behaving exactly like one, particularly the state governments pushing ideologies on their populations.

Posted in: How to explore Northern Japan’s famous autumn colors for just ¥20,000 See in context

Travelled recently in Tohoku using one of these passes and it was an amazing experience. The passes represent excellent value for money, and Tohoku's beautiful scenery, fabulous onsen, delicious food and traditional crafts made for a relaxing and interesting holiday. Highly recommend Akita - Nyuto onsen, Kakunodate, Oga (home of the Namahage), the Matsushitagekijo in Akita city where you can meet Akita maiko and the Shirakami Buna tourist train.

That simply is not possible with respiratory viruses. They are different from just about every other type of disease, which is why no vaccine has ever been able to eradicate respiratory viruses compared to the smallpox virus which had no animal origin.

We haven't even managed to develop a vaccine for the common cold.

paris should have been made to wait until 2028 so the Tokyo games could be rescheduled to 2024. But the french didn't want to wait and we see what happened. So I can't celebrate the paris olympics.

Dina's routines were pretty dull and same-y, though technically good. Linoy's routines were far more interesting to watch.

Posted in: Counting the coronavirus cost at Tokyo Olympics See in context

The people, namely the top poster, who are crowing about how successful these Olympics were because there weren’t any major disasters are missing large several points. The cost of these Games far exceeds whatever “hope” they may have brought to the world and I am not just talking about the $14.5 billion estimated by Yahoo sports. A significant part of Japanese society feels abandoned. Tohoku was flat out lied to. The average citizen was told to stay home and sacrifice while the elite swine partied. Good luck getting the public to ever sacrifice again for the common good. I predict you will see some serious cases a civil disobedience…and good for them…followed by some serious pushback if the government tried to reign people in.

Exactly, What is worse, the average Japanese citizen will now have to pay for said elite swine's party, for years to come.

Posted in: Counting the coronavirus cost at Tokyo Olympics See in context

I don’t think many people would call this even close to a good party.

Especially as you, the home owner, aren't even allowed to attend the party but still have to pay for all of it.
