I find it very interesting that liberals claim they're pro-women, pro equality and yada, yada, yada. When actually, the opposite is true.

The Osaka governor. He's been at this for what, a year and a half now? He's been in the news a lot for his tough stance on businesses and covid rules. Ooooh yeah! Looked like he was an up-and-coming national politician. I mean he's a young fresh face against most of the "oyaji's" you liberals keep complaining about. Just look at the comments here. Nothing overly insulting toward what the Osaka governor is saying or doing. Keep in mind, he hasn't been terribly succesful, has he?

On the other hand, you have a lady governor, with a much larger city and the weight of the Olympics on her shoulders. With her, your comments are nasty and disrespectful. Furthermore, you claim the numbers of positive covid results are altered, although it seems highly improbable that she wields and power.

I just find in fascinating!

Awful. Playing whack-a-mole with peoples' lives and livelihoods. Much worse than Japan. How about your country? But I implore you to stop using "incompetent" and "inept". It's tiresome.

@GdTokyo

If "this" government is, to use the tired and over-used expression: "incompetence", which government is better? In your humble, holier-than-thou opinion...

Who would go to New Zealand now? They treated visitors very badly with their lockdowns. Now they expect Australians to just forget about that and go skiing and spend loads of money in their locked-down-social-distancing pubs. Pass.

Let's not get too worked up about it. If you really beleive in its benefits, take the "vaccine" as you see fit. And have a nice day! :)

No, no! I was wrong. Your chances are 10x that! My bad! Lock youseves in, seal doors and windows. Wait for your "vaccinations" rations.

At this rate you have a .01% chance of catching Covid in Tokyo this year. And .001% chance of being hospitalized from Covid. This is unacceptable. Stope being so selfish. Wear your masks, people!

In the photo, far right, there appears to be a salaryman, not wearing a mask, looking down and away from the camera... in shame!

@JDoe, true I am grateful that I still have work and am able to pay bills/ utilities. It still doesn’t mitigate the risk of contracting Covid having to take the rush hour train two times a day. I guess I’m lucky in the sense that I’m in the under 40 bracket and statistically less at risk.

Um... Sorry to break it to you: anyone, any age, anytime is a risk of catching Covid, spreading it to others and potentially be personally responsible for further Covid deaths. So I hope you feel really good about taking the rush hour train instead of working from home!

For my part, I encourage folks to mask up. However, I feel a little bad as I have not been wearing a mask for the past few days. My mask wore out to the point it was itchy and it even had a small hole in it. I went the the convenience store, but they are too expensive there. Waiting for the prices to come down. Yesterday, I was almost tempted to pick up one of the discarded masks in the park, shake it out thoroughly. But my partner told me not to.

So yes, I do my best to keep a distance of more than a meter away from others. And if there are more than 5 people in an elevator, I'll step out or cover my mouth if I talk or cough. If the trains are so crowded that there's nowhere I can sit, I'll wait for the next train.

No worries! Will be a buying a package of really good masks next weekend.

Masked or not, that’s way too many people in too tight an area.

Declare an SOE and cancel the Olympics.

Thank you for your advice! We'll see to it.

@Skipp

No. More along the lines of a Vitamin deficiency. How can that be a conspiracy? Yes, to that point, I am confused.

Must have been tough going through your ordeal. But you're ok now. Thank heavens for that!

The people you see out there without masks. Maybe they've had Covid already? Maybe they've been "vaccinated". Maybe they've had SARS? Maybe they know that for anout 85-90% of people who catch it require hospital treatment. I know you were one of them.

We have to let people live their lives. If someone doesn't wear a mask, you don't need to be the mask police. Just stay away from them. Don't cause yourself to be miserable.

The comments from most of you guys is disrespectful and at times downright nasty. Doesn't make the reading of JapaToday a pleasant experience. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Wonder how the sponsors feel. Wonder what potential sponsors think when they see all your Japan-bashing. Koike, has been through hell in the past year and a half. She's giving the world hope. The athletes, their families, friends and hometowns must really be looking forward to this. You should be ashamed of yourselves. If you live here, be more appreciative. This is a beautiful country, with beautiful people and a rich and sophisticated culture and heritage.

I'm glad to hear this. Japan can be a beacon of hope for people all over the world.

"Koike said they could not set a condition for allowing only vaccinated athletes to compete."

What Koike said was so true! Forcing these untested "vaccines" onto visitors is just plain wrong. Newsbody knows the harm they will do montys or years from now.

So a 1 in 10 chance of getting severe symptoms from something we have a 1 in whatever chance of catching. And many of us are already immune anyway; can't catch it even if we tried to.

I'm all in for gun control if it means getting the illegal guns off the streets of say, Chicago which has a lot of homicides.

I'd also be all for banning rioting and looting and burning throwing bricks, etc.

I know, I know. Down-vote me...

You know what they should be reporting daily is the number of people who've lost their jobs. And there should be documentaries on the impacts to businesses and people's lives. And to give everyone hope, show people getting jobs and picking up their lives again. This summer we should have barbecues!

Came across this goodie...

"Since 1990, the number of firearms per capita in the United States has increased by 50 percent. At the same time, however, the national homicide rate and national gun-homicide rate have plummeted by 50 percent, and the number of non-fatal firearm crimes committed in 2011 was one-sixth the number committed in 1993."
