It's currently between 30 and 33 degrees in my classrooms. I honestly can't imagine trying to make my kids do much of anything in class.

So rather than correcting the broken system and improving education, they're just going to try and make these kids more patriotic. Thus keeping them loyal to the party. The population remains less educated but more patriotic. That's a dangerous path.

Only two years? That whole episode was a pretty miserable time in my life as well as many others. We did eventually get our money, but many people left the country and so it has made getting the cash back more difficult for them. I remember in the final days we were getting faxes almost everyday saying money was coming. Most of the Japanese staff were pretty happy, but the foreigners kept telling them it was just lies. In the end though, it did lead me to getting a better job in a better location.

I'm working in Tsurumi, which is actually just down the road from Kawasaki, and I can tell you, it's a rough neighborhood. Yakuza were most likely involved.

That place is awful. Putting meerkats and groundhogs in small dirty cages and then displaying them all night is just wrong. I wonder how legal that even is...
