this is pretty much one of the huge reasons why I don't support troops stationed in Japan. Sure you can argue we're there to protect Japan and uphold international law, but the fact is US troops are still American and not Japanese; And the reputation of our military and country is tarnished and muddied up by the acts these individuals cause on the locals. We wouldn't like if theoretically Mexico stationed troops in our land and caused the same mess would we? Knowing us American, we already would be in the middle of the process of throwing foreign invaders from our land. The same can be applied to the Japanese, once they have a fully functional military why would they want to extend our land lease indefinitely?

yeah, to be honest all those territories seized by the Russian Empire-turned Soviet Union were once orginally part of Japan and Manchuria, aka Qing dynasty era China.. Those Russians will never return land they seized, nor bother cultivating them economically... so in a hypothetical future war involving US-Russia, maybe the Japanese and Chinese can seize that opportunity to take back what was once theirs.

Posted in: Defense adviser sees chance to update alliance with U.S. See in context

obviously from the American military conservative viewpoint, maintaining the current status quo of the US-Japan Alliance is good.

But they would definitely object to seeing Japan take a more active and important role in terms of replacing most of the US troops deployed in Japan with SDF and restricting military access to their bases. I believe that's what Ishiba intends as well as Abe. "Why spend $2 billion dollars hosting such a large foreign military and dealing with their troubles and crimes against the locals when we can just spend that amount in expanding our ground sdf?" is an obvious thought they have.

the current alliance pact helps America maintain their dominance over the pacific whereas the Japanese government need not worry about providing extra money for their military as well as relying on the Americans to do the fighting for them.

the only problem i see is what if America get's involved in another allied nations war and brings Japan's SDF with them, or America gets into a large scale war with either Russia or China. Both scenarios only drags Japan into a war they dont want or need, but thats what you get when you maintain a strong alliance.

yeah saw that coming. I think people forget how terrible America's historic colonial relations were with the Filipinos and even more people forget how closely tied China, Philippines, and many neighboring South East asian nations are with one another.

When it comes to understanding foreign policy and foreign relations, we as Americans are like children who are aware of how awesome our country is but totally not getting why our enemies hate us and continue to grow in numbers.

We had our chance of being a great global world order, but we lost that after invading Iraq, overthrowing Libyan regime, and throwing the whole Middle East into disasters with the lack of efficient nation-building or strong alliances among all the factions and tribes fighting against each other in the region.

So my next question, is what gives us the right to force our allies to stay in our alliance?

And force them to stay with us in their backyard. It's the American way to stand up to an occupying force like the Brits, but when it comes to us being in other's regions, we consider ourselves the "good guys", the "protectors".

Interesting thing that one of our founding father George Washington once wrote caution of our nation's foreign adventures and would rather prefer us to not be involved in other nation's business.

would I be edgy if I said there should be more lead Asian American actors in Hollywood?

I mean i feel like #oscarsowhite is more focused getting more african american actors in lead roles rather than helping get other ethnic and racial groups into lead roles. The majority of ppl I hear calling for more "color" is usually just referring to one particular race.

I don't know, those are just my opinions I guess. I do wish there's more Asian American actors who can portray characters more accurately to their cultural background than just hiring someone to pretend to be another race's character.

Our military aint going to make any difference or stop China's territory claim. In this time period, picking a fight with China doesn't benefit our interest, And getting dragged into a war because of our security pact with our allies ain't going to benefit our interest either.

*sigh With so many Americans and Australian taking a hard stance against China, And many mainland Chinese taking a hard stance against American and allies,

another Pacific war will surely come true.

What baffles me is amount stake most people here have to say about the South China Sea and China.

I mean there's so many nations who all lay claim to S china Sea. Many nations who've already established military bases and stations on these archipelago "rocks" and island, Taiwan, Philippines, Vietnam, and more.

Now if the Chinese Communist party and the PRC take an aggressive policy and campaign of claiming all areas and disrupts sea lane commerce, than by all means neighboring nations will have to engage with China.

But i believe since many nations have already laid claim and are all grabbing the islands, the best way is to not aggravate or engage in action without meaning.

Japan needs to enforce its claim and uses our military as a protective umbrella. Australia and US dont have claims in the South China Sea, its the nations of the S China Sea who have rights to claim and enforcement.

Why should we get dragged into a war by bilateral security agreements that doesn't benefit us and only benefits the claims of smaller nations?

Hello? ANYBODY remember Korea and Vietnam? Minus the communism? lol everybody has a stake, and I don't think we should start a fight with China.

Now if China's government and military decides to fight first and draw first blood, than there should be justifiable retaliatory responses, But we should never strike first.

Ok first of all when your arguing with someone, never accuse someone of being a hateful racist just because they don't agree with the politics of BLM movement. And never assume their being white ( THATS racist).

And second of all your argument that we're spending more tax money on incarceration against black vs white is completely wrong. There are WAY more white people who are incarcerated than blacks.

And also I suggested that a real BLM movement would deal with saving and preventing loss of human life in a wide spectrum of movements and you call me a racist? lol

*smh man you can't just win an argument by calling a racist for not agreeing. lol. one of the major reasons why so many minorities and liberals are turning away from supporting BLM.

Posted in: U.S., Japan, Australia step in for weak Southeast Asia to chide China See in context

lol again, so many people here who believe Beijing has "no friends" is so completely naive. Vietnam and Russia's relationship with China has had some rocky periods, but they internal politics are very much on each other sides. As well as important to note that Beijing has a stable relationship with many of its neighbors. I believe many of you need to start reading and observing the ACTUAL political and economic relationship between many nations in Asia and the Pacific rather than reading our "western" perspective view.

Again as i have said in the past, we Americans and other westerners are only reading what news articles our mass media wants to print. And it's overwhelmingly anti-China.

Now imagine how mass media can influence the people of our society that China is a human-rights violating, imperialistic, war-hungry, Nemisis-of-Asia, than imagine how voters mind set are when choosing their elective representatives in dealing with China.

We're just going to end up escalating tensions and igniting an unnecessary war that will send our troops to the meat-grinder.

And it baffles me how many people believe that our nation's leaders is doing the right thing and preventing "evil and oppression" from occurring, when our military and political influence is causing and inflating more wars overseas.

Americans need to wake up and realize that our government isn't protecting the world! the suffering and the pain of those in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria are bleeding and crying over the consequences of our actions

I like how most people here fail to understand how much influence Beijing has over the politics over many of the South East Asian nations.

Plus they're also smart enough to know they would benefit more staying on Beijing's good side than back the US -led Anti-China war stance.

Seriously. Sending more naval patrols in South East Asia is not going to make things more peaceful.

i know a lot of you liberals believe these nations' people need to rise up and stand united against your nemesis China, but they don't care or share our political views. Also don't forget how much China has contributed to these countrys' government and economies in terms of trade and influence.

Plus I think I've seen enough uprisings in the Arab spring to know that the common people are not responsible enough to rule their country after they overthrow their government.

Something our jeffersonian-democratic views have yet to understand.

Posted in: U.S., Japan, Australia step in for weak Southeast Asia to chide China See in context

Lol. It's pretty clear now that this South china sea is more of a "US and friends(Aussie and JPN)" vs "China and friends"

I like how there's been numerous articles written by US, Australian journalists who try to paint China as an extremely dislikable diplomatic nation. I've seen so many articles where they try to explain that China has made so many enemies over south china sea, that all the neighbors are against China.

I don't think what they account is how much influence China has over the politics of the South East Asian nations. Sure America's got considerable influence in Korea, Taiwan, Japan and Philippines but those are all East Asia, not south east Asia like Thailand, malaysia, indonesia, vietnam, etc. And not to mention Philippines newly elected president and political party are now taking a China-favored stance. They're not even going to enforce the Hague ruling against China.

China's influence is all over Asia and has been forever and in the future. Something that most American politicians don't want to accept.

Eventually if we, Americans, go to war with China. We'll be fighting over small nations' interest rather than our own. We don't have any real stake of claim in South China Sea, apart from the trade routes our corporations share with the global market. We dont own any islands or fishery.

a shooting spree, a machete attack, and a suicide bombing... yeah. I would definitely agree that THERE WILL BE A LOT OF ANTI-MIGRANT sentiment now. lol.

I mean i think almost everyone predicted this would happen when you allow millions of refugees into the EU without any kind of strong enforcement of inspection and accountability for the refugees.

This is what happens when you rush forward and act using your emotions rather than logic. And I do blame the leftist media for publishing all those news articles of refugees drowning over illegal smuggling.

We see these articles and makes you act humanely without taking a step back and asking " wait. All these people who come here are all from poor, poorly-educated, but deeply religious societies.

*sigh well it's Europe's problem now. Not like anyone can just give them the magic hand and sort this all out on its own.

Posted in: Dallas suspect told police he wanted to kill white officers See in context

This is what happens when there's a reinforced and encouraged state of mind that there is widespread and prevalent prejudice and hostile racism of the police force on a minority group. Black Lives Matters, left-sided media and social media, and even Barack Obama himself have been promoting and encouraging the idea that there is an actual racist hatred agenda that our nation's police force has against African Americans. Im not saying that Racism doesnt exist but I believe that it exist in multiple levels and forms and differs among each individual. But I don't believe that our society's law enforcement and police force has an institutionalized racist discrimination and systematic annihilation of a minority group.

I believe what's to be blamed is the training and experience that each individual police officers needs to shoulder when they are out in the field. fear, emotion, and quick acting are always the key elements for all these police shootings.

And even if the pay is higher in the States, it doesn't mean theres a lot of availability since our hiring season isn't on a fixed date.
