HumanTarget, hey, Bulgarian yogurt sold in stores is probably not made in Bulgaria either.

No need to invent it to become common.

Go Osakans, lighten up Japan's sullen mood with your bright, bold vaudeville personalities.

If history is anything to go by, Ishihara will win again by a landslide -- you'd think people would have smartened up by now!

I think Sae has a nice smile too, she looks very refined with bracelets.

"very little charity was seen from rich Japanese celebrities before this large tsunami. I don't recall many of them doing anything during the SE Asian tsunami a few years back or anything for the Sichuan earthquake (or even Haiti)."

Speaking from what I know, charity or gift-giving in Japan is considered most graceful when done with humility, docility, or sometimes even with silence. So when given a choice, I think most Japanese person will choose to do a good conduct anonymously, which may be why celebrities here appears to be uncaring towards others.

Also, according to the Japan Red Cross webpage, Japan raised over two billion yen to support relief efforts in Haiti. Surely some part of the total must be from celebrities?

The cabinet's disaster management uniform looks almost identical to Tepco uniforms, both in shape and color.

Definitely a proof that they are in each other's pockets.

Fewer billboard lights in Tokyo.

More frequent visit to the swimming pools.

More leafy plants around the window for shade.

Smith, you're probably right in saying these audience ratings are more biased because fame and newsworthiness all decided by the media. A survey by a newspaper publisher might give a more accurate picture of public opinion.

I agree OsakaT, Mao-chan's strong positiveness explains her popularity.

One of my HS classmate had a slight cross-eye like Mao-chan. And when you're talking to her, you can't quite tell if she's looking at you or somewhere else, but I think it adds to their charm.

Some famous people with eyes like that off the top of my head -- Nao Matsushita who stars in the CSI-type J-drama "Control", and Ayaka Hirahara who is famous for the song "Jupiter" (The song has been playing on radio lately).
