I agree Yubaru, it's eduacation. For these guys, it's probably too late. But as I said earlier, we as Leaders, Role Models, Parents, Teachers ... we need to learn from these mistakes and educate those we can make an impact on. Sounds generic, but it's the truth!

Ofcourse they lied about the levels. That's why the Govt. is shelling out some YEN now to it's own residents. But it's the same as the BP spill, or the Katrina numbers in America, lies lies lies... but suing for an operation that we went into knowing the dangers present. Hmmm sounds like these kats trying to get PAID $$$. I'd like to see how this turns out.

C'mon Rob... Are you serious? Read those comments and tell me how YOU feel. "Yanks dont know how to control their people", "U.S. cant control their Marines", "Only solution is for U.S. to leave"... There was no subtext to my comment earlier. Simply learn from those mistakes like this (the Marine) and teach those you care about the right way to live.

Seriously, are we all thinking that americans are committing all the crimes in Japan again. Tsk Tsk people. Although these patterns of crime are unacceptable and should handled with accordingly, I can't sit idle while some of you bash the military like you do. When the title reads "U.S. Marine, U.S. Navy ServiceMan"... does this simple media trickery brainwash you into being an ignorant @$$? Grow up, please. Change what you have control of and make this world a better place to enjoy for our children.

Wow, we're still talking about this? In other news, CFAS is having an open base event next week. Should be GREAT FUN! Funnel cakes, good music, maybe a little nampa.... all before the clock strikes 11.

If you're life doesn't consist of being out at a bar drinking every night between the hours of 2200-0800, then I'm gonna say you're probably not stressin' out too much about the new policy.

@kringis, I agree. Although it's the rule, It's just a matter of time. Look at the amount of young people, and old, that are doing it now. They are the next generation. What's gonna happen 10+ years from now? But, we're talking about present times and it's a rude thing to do. I personally think drinking a ChuHi on the last train is ok :)

My wife explained this to me, and I follow the rules. I think most people that come here are aware that there is no eating on trains and cell phone usage is kept to a minimum. From the constant annoucements (in japanese) to the english speaking commuter that goes.."Psst, hey you can't do that. It's considered rude"... we ALL know or will know shortly after our arrival to Japan.

Whiskey, you might be drinking the wrong ones man. Take about 5 or 6 of the SPARX 9%'ers. Those will do the trick. But if your like a 20,30 year drinker... yea, it might take 20 of 'em.

There so much more to this story that probably isn't going to come out. And Haiki station has cameras, my wife pointed them out to me.. ( only cuz I was trying to get some lovin' one night there ) ... blush And it's hard for me to believe he was alone. I don't know, this one is complicated.

Like I said in an earlier post ... my favorite quote " Education is a progessive discovery of our own ignorance"

-Will Durant-

We should stop living like we can change criminal minds or the justice system and protect our own families. Don't get me wrong, if some of you who post here have an influence on both governments with your political status, that's all you. I know I don't. But I know I can take the values that I've learned and try to influence as many people as I can, Japanese and American. That this is an isolated incident from disgusting people. (provided that they are found guilty)I guess I won't really understand the feeling until it happens in my own country. But then again, it happens in America. It happens all over the world.

Usually cases like this will be seen in the military judicial system after the time served in Japan. It'll kill their careers. Not that I'm an expert, but It's what I've seen for the last 7 years I've been here. Even if they don't manage to get kicked out, their advancement chances will be hurt. I'm still curious to know the nature of incident. That may never come out and be only between the criminals and the victim. Has anyone heard what actually happened that night?

I can see your point Bertie. But there are two sides to every story. And I love reading the story that shows that some Japanese understand these are isolated incidents and that the military isn't a huge MOB. That there are foreigners who learn and embrace the Japanese culture, learn the language and interact peacefully. That story is my life. Now as far as the land, I'm sure that battle will be fought long after you and I are gone. I've read and understand the history leading up to our occupation here and I'm not trying to change history. But I am thankful for the opportunity to be here and I'd fight for Japan as I would for America.

They will get the punishment they deserve and life will go on. America wil continue to occupy Japan and the good relations we have with this wonderful country will always out weigh the bad. I used to get really ashamed and embarrased by things like this. Now, I understand the justice system will do what it needs to do with no help from any of us. (but we all know that justice system is a different story) I feel so sorry for the victim, and now she will carry that for the rest of her life. It's no doubt and sad and disgusting thing to live with. I strongly believe that the Japanese understand that incidents like this are isolated and although we feel the affect of these crimes, our relations are great!. And this is based on history. And Im gonna enjoy some YOSAKOI!!! this weekend.
