Of course, Japan has so much extra cash laying around in the budget. Why not spend it on more frivolity?

Saw this on the news last night. She's a bit of a psycho!

She blamed the guy for ruining her image but she has done a fine job of that herself.

She also threatened physical violence against the man's daughter. I hope she gets busted but I suspect she won't.

Posted in: Teacher apologizes after making LGBT comment to scold student in class See in context

Actually, you obviously missed the whole point: a teacher abused his power and stooped to insulting an entire group of people, directing it at a child.

Nonsense. The teacher was playing with one of his students. Another student took offense.

There wasn't anyone else

Apparently, we're supposed to refer to them in the plural. Just trying to be PC. ;-)

Sounds like an absolute nightmare. For a child to want to return to an abusive home instead of staying in a so-called shelter is rather telling.

Posted in: Teacher apologizes after making LGBT comment to scold student in class See in context

If, in this day and age, it is OK to be LGBT, the child who was offended should feel happy that there was another person in "their" group, not offended.

But see, that's the whole point: to play the victim. And so "they" were 'offended'.

This frustrates the author!? Poor guy. Life must be really hard! Why not just accept what it is and leave it at that? It's not difficult.

Half of first-year junior high school students found their English education in elementary school less than useful.

The only way to effectively stop a drone attack is using a device designed to interrupt the signal between the drone and its controlller.

Anyway, it's nice to have a (mostly) happy ending to such a disaster.

@seredipitous1 - yes, he is admitting guilt. Whether or not it is a punishable offense is another matter.

@therougou - not enough info but they may have been incapacitated by smoke, and by the time the father realized he was the only one out, it was too late to revive, or even retrieve them.

In any case, very sad.

Posted in: Single mothers by choice fight stigma, seek to change perceptions See in context

@Maria

I don't think anyone is suggesting to deny single-parent families the kind of support that two parent families receive. The fact is that single women who choose to have a child are going to be a bigger burden because they cannot provide for their family as well as two parents can. The support provided to a two parent family will not be enough for a single parent family.

Much of the increase, though, was for non-construction costs.

This is the most disturbing part. An undefined increase that is NOT for the most obvious cost - that of construction.

How about Tokyo alone shoulder the costs of the Olympics? No one else is going to benefit anyway.
