It won't be by secret ballot. Any owner that doesn't vote for the forced sale will also be labeled a racist.

Posted in: Tanaka strikes out 11 as Yankees beat Angels See in context

It's hard to lay off a forkball because it starts off looking like a fastball. And with Tanaka's low 90s fastball, you don't realize what it is until the bottom drops out of it. Two thirds of all strikeouts swinging are balls out of the strike zone. Batters will start to evolve around his style so he'll have to change as well. Maybe bringing more fastballs on 2 strike counts instead of relying on his forkball. Strikeouts are cool. but they get the pitch count up. Tanaka, Dice-K, Darvish, and Iwakuma have all failed to pitch a complete game in MLB.

Giving up 3 hits including a 3 run dinger in the 2nd doesn't sound like solid inning to me. I would say he pitched 6 solid innings. Yankees had their chance in the 9th. Runners on the corners with 1 out and they couldn't get the run in. Tanaka seems to get stronger in the later innings, too bad he didn't get the win.

Darvish also recorded his 500th strikeout, fastest in MLB history at just over 400 innings.

Posted in: Yankees give Tanaka a win in Major League debut See in context

Nice first game/first win for Tanaka. But with 7 runs you had better win. Kuroda pitches well but only gets one run in support. In fact the Yankees have only scored 7 runs in their other 4 games combined. Nice to see Ichiro play well, when he was given the chance. He gets 5 hits in 2 games and then Girardi puts him on the bench, Sporatic hitting and a weak bullpen might make for a long season for the Yankees.

@Saketown, we must have watched two different versions in 2010. For those two days I thought that Kim was clearly the better skater. I'm sure she will enjoy her Silver Medal, it will be right next to her Gold Medal. And Kim seemed to take it in stride, not that embarrassing wimpering on the podium like we saw from Mao in Vancouver.

A few days ago there was story that Ichiro would like to play a few more years, didn't say if he meant in the USA or Japan. I'd actually like to see them both finish their careers in Japan. Would love to see Ichiro in a Dragons uniform.

Dice-K and Darvish both won 16 games their first season, both with good run support. With the heavy hitters that NY has, Tanaka should be able to do the same. But a weak bullpen might be a problem.

Thank you for the explanation Balefire. I saw 2 clips this morning, one flipping the bird and the other with his arms flailing wildly. I would have thought that he would be arrested when they found a knife, even if they weren't sure it was the murder weapon.

Seems strange that he wasn't in handcuffs as he was being led down the stairs, and flipping the bird to the news cameras.

I haven't heard anything about Ichiro wanting to retire, but have seen that the Yankees were trying to shop him, without any takers. But if he feels underappreciated in NY maybe it is time to either demand a trade or retire. I'm sure he would prefer to be an everyday player somewhere else for $3 million rather than being a $6 million bench warmer.

Tanaka has a good work ethic, something that Dice-K never had. Dice-K looked good his last 3 starts for the Mets, he might have a big season left in him. Kuroda might be a good mentor for Tanaka, but don't expect much from Ichiro.

@Kimo, Ichiro is interested in one person, Ichiro. And do you really think he is still happy being in NY? He's not even a starter anymore. With off season signings of Beltran and Ellsbury, he'll be lucky to play in 100 games. That is if he isn't released or traded. Girardi has absolutely no faith in him, so it wouldn't surprise me if he's gone soon.

I would have thought the pressure wasn't going to be as big an issue as it was in 2010. The spotlight was on Yu Na and the media created rivalry between the Russian and American. Her strength has always been in the FS, hope she can nail the triple tomorrow and at least crack the top ten.

The Yankees usually are the best team money can buy. And don't be surprised if they dump Ichiro before the season begins, even if they have to eat half his contract.

I hope he gets better run support than what Kuroda has been getting. Kuroda is one of the smartest pitchers in the game, unfortunately his record doesn't reflect this. But should be a good mentor for Tanaka.

@Laguna, I was thinking the exact same thing, the non-flying pilot was enjoying the scenery rather than monitoring the approach.

And I'm guessing about 40-50 seconds from 500 feet. You will start to shallow out the descent and normal touchdown is about a 1000 feet down the runway.

Sounds like the PAPI wasn't working either. If it were working you would think that four red lights would have gotten someones attention on the flight deck. A visual approach still takes 2 crew members, the Pilot Flying and the Pilot Monitoring. The non-flying pilot should have calling out low airspeed. And it will all be on the voice recorder whether he did so or not.

Posted in: Hiroshima A-bomb re-enactment dropped from U.S. air show See in context

@Rick, I heard that that was actually an option but they worried that maybe the device wouldn't work. The Japanese were also working on an atomic bomb, and the first targets they had in mind were the islands of Saipan and Tinian where most of the B29s were launched.

Posted in: Hiroshima A-bomb re-enactment dropped from U.S. air show See in context

@smith, Sir, I've done alot of research on this. I actually lived in the Mariana Islands where the planes were launched so I've read everything I can find on the subject. I believe that the atomic bombs were designed to end the war. The fire bombings purpose was to just kill people. I think that all bombing is evil, but if it took the most evil weapon we had to end the war I would support it.

In the final few weeks of the war the Japanese went from 3 to 13 divisions to defend Kyushu. Nearly every man in those 13 divisions would have died, along with many Americans and civilians. The Japanese leadership was so scattered, there was even an attempt to kill the emperor and keep the war going. When and where was it going to stop? And I'm sure you know all of this, but why was there no surrender after the first bomb?

My point about my mother-in-law is that she was bombed just because she was Japanese. As time goes on, this will appear more and more as genocide.

@cwhite, Kokura was the primary target for the 2nd bomb, with Nagasaki being the secondary target. And Kyoto was spared due to its historical significance.

@cleo, I am in agreement and place 90 percent of the blame on the guy. He's 39 and should know better. But if she isn't advertising, he isn't buying. It's also distrubing that he has done it a few times before. I don't know about Japan, but in the US just possessing child porn is a crime. Anyone know if he can be charged with a crime re: his computer images?

Posted in: Hiroshima A-bomb re-enactment dropped from U.S. air show See in context

@smith, yes my statement may be speculation but your statement that Japan was on the verge of surrendering is also speculation. If not, then exactly which day did they plan to surrender? The first bomb was dropped and there was only silence. After the second bomb, the emperor surrendered. The atomic bombs were evil, but so was the fire bombing. My mother-in-law was six years old when her city in Kyushu was firebombed. What did a six year old girl or her eight year old sister ever do that they should be bombed. I hate war but am convinced that the atomic bombs were necessary to help finish the job.
