People don't get it.... the customers will be Restaurants and not actual individuals. Now any Restaurant can advertise home delivery without having to hire someone. Its a great way for someone that likes riding bikes to make some extra money.

Posted in: Canadian YouTuber explains why she quit working on Japanese TV See in context

I'm an American.... and I've never seen any TV programming in the USA where a foreigner, new to the USA, was filmed as a segment for a TV show. I've seen some movies, mainly comedies, like Coming to America, which were fun to watch, but nothing else. My point being.... why are the Japanese so curious as to how foreigners cope when living in Japan? And it is constant. You can barely go a week or two without some mockumentary on a foreigner living in Japan or a Japanese living in a foreign country. Why? To me, programs like this only help to solidify the foolish idea that the Japanese are vastly different than the rest of the world. I'm sorry to inform them but... they're not... yes, a different culture but all cultures are slightly different and that makes them the same.

Blame Japanese Labor laws. If a Japanese company tries to layoff a 20 to 30 year full time employee... they'd be looking at paying him or her 2 to 3 years of severance salary. In the USA.... you might get 1 month's salary if you're lucky. In Japan... it is often too expensive to layoff a full time employee.

Posted in: 89-year-old man arrested for assaulting 'noisy' children See in context

All around Japan Day Care Centers are needed but not being built due mainly to elderly neighbors protesting the prospect of hearing children's laughter and play. Sure it is noisy but these geriatrics are being far too self centered. Whatever happened to Gaman for the Good of Japan? I personally lived just 5 meters from a school playground... one that was used on weekends for sports. While I'd have loved to have slept quietly until 9AM on a Saturday or Sunday, I was always awakened around 7AM to their voices and play. Did it bother me.... yes, a little, but I made a lot of noise as a kid too and no one ever complained. Who am I to deny these kids when I myself enjoyed unfettered freedom, even in a city environment too, as a kid. Its tough enough growing up in Japan as it is with the examination process... let kids play.

Posted in: Do you expect changes in the U.S.-Japan alliance no matter who wins the Nov 8 U.S. presidential election? See in context

No, if Hillary Clinton wins and Yes, if Donald Trump wins. Why.... Hillary will continue to pursue old and ingrained alliances with little change. Now if Donald wins.... the whole world could actually be thrown into a very new set of alliances. Donald admires Vlad Putin... he likes how he rules. So you might actually see Donald giving Putin leeway in his agenda in Eastern Europe. Also.... trade. If Donald finds a way to slap China with heavy tariffs.... he may also do the same with Japan and other Asian Nations. There is no way Japan, Taiwan, and S. Korea, will sit by and let him hit them with trade fines while continuing a cozy military relationship.... if anything it would probably push said countries to a closer alliance with China and the U.S. would be on its own with their new friend Russia.

No doubt.... these bus lines have to draw the line that they get at least half the money up front.... and by wire transfer at that. If a credit card is used they might be able to do a "charge back".... which many times it favors the buyer.

Posted in: Proposed anti-conspiracy law stirs civil rights concerns in Japan See in context

To me... legislation such as this needs to have an expiration date. Try it for 3 to 5 years.... if the Govt uses it to suppress normal anti-govt activities such as anti-taxes, anti-war, anti-whatever.... then it should not be renewed. Also, I do not believe the Govt should use this law outside of terrorist related activity.

First off.... Enjo Kosai / Compesated dating, is prostitution. Prostitution is Legal in may places around the world. I've lived in Japan for quite a few years..... this summer we're on the East coast of Chiba..... we were directly in the typhoon's path, it was the first time I actually closed the shutters out of fear. The winds were that strong. Before the weather got really bad I went for a walk along the beach.... I waded just a few feet into the water.... the ocean water temperature was unbelievably warm... almost tropical. With the water that warm... storm's and typhoon's do not weaken as they approach Japan. Lets hope that was the end of it.... because that typhoon definitely caused a lot of damage.

Posted in: Short-sellers smell blood as Japan Inc wounded by accounting scandals See in context

@ Bullfighter.... I've short sold millions of shares... literally millions. I know exactly what it means. Short selling is a tool and a way to make a profit when you think a stock is over priced, will have bad earnings, sales, or any sort of negative news come out in the future. It is a legit way to make money. The same as Buying a stock. In Japan you can only execute a Short Sale on an up-tick... same with the USA. In addition there are heavy penalties if you fail to execute the borrow an make delivery of the shares. A hedge fund that focuses on mismanaged companies or companies the cook the books is a good thing... why.... because those companies always, always, drop in price eventually, and investors are hurt... one way or the other investors will be hurt. A Hedge fund might catch the trouble early and bring it to lite before the company goes too far an bankrupts itself... at which point investors lose everything.

For over 20 years the Media and the GOP have totally dug up any and all details of the Clinton's dirty laundry.... the only thing they have on her right now is the email issue....everything else is very old news. Now Donald on the other hand, he's fresh meat.... only recently has the fine toothed comb come out and now Donald is starting to become transparent. Suffer the consequences Donald.... when a dirty, underhanded, bigot, lying, cheating, bully runs for President... its gonna come out. He was so arrogant that he actually thought people were too stupid to find his dirt.

No.... in other words the "scumbags", are coming to Japan because it is fertile territory. You want the "scumbags", they're like Roach Killer, their job is to find and kill companies that are over priced and are just too good to be true. Like the article mentions... lax oversight. That is music to their ears. Once they've identified their Roach... the burden of proof is on the Roach.... and the lax oversight is brought to lite. They're like the Police for International Accounting.... and usually if its too good to be true... guess what?

Posted in: In a first, Trump says he regrets painful comments See in context

I laugh at the number of people that believe Benghazi was all of Hillary's fault.... People that have not clue about how difficult it is to both increase and decrease personnel and especially security personnel and any given U.S. Location around they world. People need to be housed and fed sometimes.... they sometimes do not have the option of letting the board locally. You just can't say.... give us more security unless a definite threat has been confirmed. Then there is the argument of what was told to the American public directly after the incident..... are you kidding....? The police often do not give the full story of a crime.... do you know why? If you don't then don't question why the Govt did not give the exact story of what happened. On to Hillary's emails..... prior people in that position did not use the Govt email servers too. Just because they didn't and she didn't does not make it right.... and she should have known better. That was a foolish mistake and arrogant.... but not a good enough argument for me to pick Donald Trump over her. Bill Clinton did an excellent job as president..... he'll be there with her. Sure he made mistakes but fiscally.... when the extra money was pouring into govt coffers... he didn't spend it like many would think a Democrat would.

Roger Ailes, Sean Hannity, and Steve Bannon.... when Trump loses.... those three and Donald will start a new news Network..... Trump News. They'll feed their new ultra right followers with bigotry, racism and lies..... and the hole time they'll sell them guns, gold, and cabins in the mountains. They don't give a damn about anything other than fleecing as many people as possible. I checked Go Daddy... TrumpNews.com is gone.... so it TrumpNewtork.com. Taken and being readied for the flock.

Posted in: Do you think mega-sports events such as the Olympics are good for the host city’s economy and infrastructure in the long run? See in context

The 1984 L.A. Summer Olympics were a major success. The bid was not Govt sponsored but put forth by a private business group in L.A. L.A. is already full of College and Professional stadiums.... the actual bidding group built no new structures. However a couple of private companies did and those are still in use today. U.S. Cities like Miami, Boston, Chicago, Phoenix, New York, and more... all already have mostly sufficient facilities especially if you use college facilities including Dorms to house athletes. The U.S. could easily host the Olympics in 10 Different cities without the need for major investment. The problem is... when the Govt gets involved... politicians see it as a major opportunity for graft and lining everyone's pockets.

Considering the the IOC appears to be as corrupt as the World Cup crew and that you'd basically have to be pretty adept at greasing the right palms just to get a bid let alone winning.... and that if your country did win to become Host it might only prove how corrupt and willing you are to play the game.... I'd say No... Not worth it. If we take away all the corruption... I'd give it a big Yes.

In Japan you cannot buy nicotine laced e-juice for Vaping... its an illegal substance. Japanese smokers know they cannot Vape so they have developed a taste for e-cigarettes.... but it might be only a matter of time before the govt outlaws them too..... typical Japan.
