.... errrr... so because the organic farmig allows to a richer environment, the neighboring farms that are not doing organic farming use more pesticides??

Sorry but that is not the fault of organic farming... I find even hard to categorized as "unintended" from the organic farming stand.

Its all on the side of the "non-organic" farming side... they are to blame and they should be the farming to seek a solution. The organic farming should be left to keep doing what is doing.

You know James Bonds was suppose to be purely entretainment... if I wanted to see a hard boiled assasin and his "real world problems"... then I watch something among the lines of the Bourne Identity or something.

I think Wandora only know (sadly) Daniel Craig's James Bond.... sure a lot of people like it, to each their own, but I really didn't like it (a bondle Bond?, that was proposterous!!!).

You take the sillyness of Bond, and you only left with an action film of more of the same.....

Like don't letting John McClane to to be complaining all the way of the movie, or making John Wick just a good assasin but not to the level to killing several men with a pencil.

How to detect submarine drones (a guide and asuming those drones exist):

By submarine drone we asume there are all automated.

Hence:

1) Attack order have to be sent with a specific radio band

2) Drone will require to emerge to

a. Recieve orders b. Resuply batteries and/or fuel (including for misiles)

3) Radio waves, light (lassers) are very inneficient to transmit imformation through water.

Procedure:

When deployed, those drones will need to resurface to get the new orders, the type of communication will be somewhat secure and strong and it will be random (assuming that each drone will resurface in random and not all at once)... Given that the US will be monitoring for these type of threat specially if it is as HIGH as you mentioned a hunt for these drones coudl be already ongoing.

If not deployed and they need to go to harbor to resuply and recieve new orders, then in case of high alert Russian harbors that can manage a fleet of subamrines will be monitored, an increase in movement will be a give away.

If resuply is not done in harbor but at open seas, an operation of such a schale (refueling, arming missles and so on) will be of a great schale, movement of Russian ships will be monitored.

No matter how "silet" a drone is it will cause sounds, a network of monitoring and fleets of US and its allies submarines will be also hunting for that type of threat.

All the above is under the assuption that those silent submarine drones with hiper sonic misiles are deployed and making a move to attack.

That the drone fleet are already armed, deployed and with orders to attack with a simple order is unrealistic, due to logistical constrains (energy mainly).

All this are basically a layman level knowledge, US Navy and related intelligence organization most probably have even more advanced ways to monitor and detect these type of threats. Not to say about satelite monitoring.

*If you told me there is a fleet of nuclear manned submarines that could strike at any time that will be more likely of beeing a success.

I don't share your opinion... I got two kids (not kids now though) and they knew about breastfeeding well enough at least when they were 7 years old more or less...and they were educated from top to bottom in the Japanese school system (that being part for them to be quite illiterate in what is language sadly... partially my fault).

So I don't think is the "Jland" fault... even if it was, were the school system fails, the partenst should cover, so if your son didn't knew that and you didn't teach it.. then is your fault (like me for not teaching them languages)

Some commentators, as always so knowledgable......

These thing are made public after several committees and meeting are held in different levels.

Is not that one side just says "I am going to visit you" or "come visit us"... there is many many procedures and considerations before these kind of things are made public.

And truth to be said, if either side could not answer the call, it would be canceled if required.

So if the Royal and Imperial families made this plublic is that everything is a go... (unless force majeure)

Posted in: Ohtani's interpreter fired by Dodgers after allegations of illegal gambling, theft from star See in context

Note: I know this is not the real subject of the article.... but there are so many commenting out of ignorance...

Tha Ohtani uses (needs) an interpreter and after 7 years living in LA he is not able to speak English.

First, how do you know he is not able to speak? I have seen some clips where he is clearly talking to his team mates without an interpreter... I think, he is able to communicate enough in a day to day basis.

Second, there are people that have a natural affinity to learn languages, this means that, also there are people that have difficulty to learn a language.

Third, communicating technical issues and/or delicate manners in a language you are not used to speak is stressful and physcally can exhaust you. As a professional sport player and as the managing team, what do you think will be the choice, between, stressing out a player just to talk to the media or allowing him to concentrate as much as possible to his play... I think the choice would be the latter.

Forth, even having the capacity to learn a language, be able to spleak it and be fluent in it becasue the long time you have lived in an English speaking country. You may choose (if there is the oportunity) to shiled yourself with an interpreter.. May be you don't want for people to reach you bacause you are kind of antisocial (I am just imagining), specially if you are walking on the street and want to avoid some people of the press or something like that...

There are some of the reason I think Ohtani as well as others keep using an interpreter. I strongly feel he does not have enough confidence to talk in public officially in Enlgish, and fiven he is a perfectionits, he would like to avoid if possible talking in a broken Enlglish in front of people he does not know or trust fully.

Combined with the title, make it seem like the "ex-admiral" is from the Imperial time era (not possible though because time)... but it is a former member of the MSDF, an institution with a mentality very different of what was the Imperial Navy....

Is the article author or the editorial is trying to be incendiary on purpose??

I was also tought about Japanese history, my favorite shogun of the time was Takeda Shingen.... but i kind of wonder why the time to teach previous eras (Azuchi momoyama, Asuka, etc.) was so short.

That is to show, that what is thought in history depends heavily on where you are and what kind of culture you are living in.

I asume you are saying that neither TEPCO nor IAEA are to be trust, but that only leads to turst noone (a ruse that a lot of kids and conspiracy theorist love). But trust is a pilar of civilization.

No doubt that some people and organizations abuse of that trust, but usually there are backups that detect those abuses.

In this case, any one (with the means) can get samples and look for the result. Until now, noone has being sounding the alarm, at least noone with hard evidence and trustworthy.

The need to wear mask and protective gear in an area were hazzarous material is being handeled does not necesary mean that the resulting product (in this specific case, water with residual Tritium) is harmful.

Just thinking by 5 seconds, you sould understand that despite being in a radioactive hazzard area, the "protective gear" is minimum... just protective glasses, a mask and pair of cloath globes. The other items like a helmet and the blue garment are more for general head protection and identification.

It is clear that wide skin areas are unprotected, so there is very little concern forn contamination where the inspection is being held.

A food producing industry worker has far less skin area exposed than the people in the picture.

And the suggestion of drinking the water directly from the source... shows how little this persons knows about the whole process.

I seem a couple of commentators (the usual ones) saying "13 years of incompetence" or that Japan is slow to clean up the accident site, and so on....

May I just remind you not about Chernovyll... but of the Three mile Island?

By the way I am not critisizing the efforts done in either cases, but just pointing out that when these type of accidents occur, cleaning up takes a LOT of time.

In the particular case of the Three mile Island, the incident happened in 1979... and just recently (june 2023) there was a news that the cleaning up effort entered a new phase.

https://stateimpact.npr.org/pennsylvania/2023/05/11/tmi-enters-new-phase-of-cleanup/

....and the Three mile Island accident was much smaller than Fukushima.

And about those anti nuclear comments... so what is the solution? More hidrocaborn generation? that is a problem not a solution, more Hydro power? Japan does not have more space to create dams, and that causes probelms, Geothermal? land and development cost are high, takes time too... it is an option but that means need to buy land from private owners. Wind also it is an option but Japan suffers from Typhoons season the cost for tubines that can take typhoons is high (not sure the damage rate), Photovoltaic, it is being done but space is the problem and production rate is a challange, Tidal power, it is an option and there are small scale projects in operatioin... but again space and typhoons.... A combination of all renewable energies? yes that is ideal and that is what the Japanese government is pushing for, but still not able to reach the goals, because time, money and space issues.

Being negative is easy, specially if just to have "fun"

I just got out of the elevator from my office in Kameido to go to a meating in Shinjuku, everything started to shake some tiles falled down. One old lady couldn't get up and she was in the middle of the street, so I helped her to get to the plaza in front of the station. Every sinlge building was waving and everything stoped.

I return to the office and everyone evacuated, so went to the designated meeting area where I met with everyone.

After waiting a while, the CEO gave the instruction that everyone go to their home (those who cannot, they could chose to stay at the office or go to a hotel).

Back then I was living in the next station of Kameido, I went back walking. Few cars and taxies on the streets.

Got to home and every single piece plate and glass were shattered, there was no gas (at that moment I didn't know how to reset the gas supply), so that night I decided to go to the izakaya I usually went... they were open and many patrons that I usually met were there so I spent a couple of hours drinking there. I lern then how to resent the gas supply.

By 20 hours, a lot of people were walking the Kuramaebashi doori, some for already a few hours and they had yet 10 km more to walk towards Funabashi.

So the izakaya owner decided to welcome some people, to give them something to drink and eat and rest.

All the patrons, including myself, help a little, like bringing a fresh tower, a glass of water and so on.

Although the earthquake and the aftermath was terrible, I have good memories of that night.
