And that's a problem, especially in Japan, where, for example, the contractors have ZERO work protection, and can be lay off immediately, without any compensation, no advance notice, so they can start looking for other jobs. Not that the Permanent employees are doing any better.

The acute lack of work Syndicates and Unions here, only means no protection or no big compensation offered to the layed out working force.

"Allowed", "granted permission" ?? Funny how people are treated as plantation slaves, as objects or statistics to be filled, and nobody bats an eye. Those trainees are sleeping 10 in one room, with their passports taken, yet, nobody bats an eye.

Posted in: Elderly driver hits 2 pedestrians, killing one, near Nara temple See in context

There are elderly people in Japan that are still driving with Alzheimer, or even after having a brain stroke, what are we talking about?

The law is useless on this matter, can only hope only the self aware and common sense of a person to stop driving if he is no longer 100%.

Sadly, that's not the case here, in Japan.

The Japanese naval ensign has nothing to do with Nazis or their flag. It goes back to the 1800s and is the equivalent of the German Iron Cross which is in use today.

I didn't say it has to do anything with the Nazis. I said it has the same significance as the Nazi flag, since it was used on the same period when the Imperial Japanese Army was doing masacre after masacre and genocide after genocide, under the cover of that flag, which later was kept by Japanese Navy only.

Displaying a symbol of the worst human atrocities in the history of mankind it's an callous insult to all of the victims by the Japanese Imperial regime.

This would have been fine if not for the Japanese Nazi similar flag.

Still don't understand how almost 100 years later, the flag that was responsible for millions of deaths and genocide all over Asia, is celebrated without any issues...

Initial reaction was, why they just don't bankrupt this mizerabble scam company and be done with it, however after reading this:

Itochu also plans to ensure that the founding family members of Bigmotor will not be involved in the business operations.

I really hope that together with the "Familly", they also fire ALL of the tenchos who were teaching the staff how to scam and abuse people. I really hope they do.

Posted in: Is Japan the sick man of Asia? See in context

As long the corrupt LDP doesn't have any competition in Japan, the country will continue to sink more and more. The Yen crashed, and it goes weaker by day, population decline is a thing, job salaries are getting lower by month (yeah, that is ridiculous), the innovation is dead and buried in Japan, the electric/electronics companies, once the pride of Japan are getting bankrupted or delisted from the Trade Markets due to lost of competitiveness, etc, etc.

Japan is sick and dying, and those incompetent oyajis from the Government do not have a clue of how to safely steer the boat out of the storm.

I'm all in for more child support, more child centers, etc.

However, why do you have to burden with more taxes the population, which is already over burdened with dozen of taxes?? Already the monthly health insurance premiums are ridiculously high as they are, and are getting progressively higher depending on your salary.

Seems like this Government lead by those corrupt LDP incompetents, only know to raise taxes for everything, instead of thinking of a constructive and productive way of getting more funds for those National related projects.

Look like those kind of incidents are becoming weekly news in Japan...

I agree with the people that said they should hang, no excuses from them to be honest.

However, as another poster said, this seems to be a big problem in Japan, and would be interesting to see what is the root causes of all those horrid child murders.

Is it lack of parenting love? Too much introvertism? The garbage culture of double-facing, which is actually promoted here, leading to the most fake people on the planet? How is this related you ask? Well, imagine the Familly being very happy in public and showing no problems, while at home the parents transform into monsters...

There is more to talk about the root causes of all this...

As one that had worked on an Japanese Recruiting and Outsourcing company, the truth is even worst.

The trainees are stuck in a room 10 or 12, passports taken, not allowed to leave the campus area, etc.

If this is not modern slavery system, then I do not know what it is.

This is the government's plan. Keep Yen as low as possible in order to boost tourism and make the mamuth companies even more richer. Is only natural, when most of them are sponsored by them and have huge shares bought from the same.

Meanwhile, for the local people, prices are getting bigger and bigger, taxes the same, expenses are doubling almost, while the callous companies that have huge profit increases keep the same wages, or raising them with the incredible amount of 1000¥/month.

There is no misunderstanding between 2 parents. A baby needs food, diaper changes, calming down, a responsability usually shared by the 2 parents. The fact that they didn't even care for so many hours, makes this whole confusion so hard to believe.

Japan has never forgotten its wartime past

Are you sure about that Japantoday? Please ask any high school or university graduates from the past 40-50 years till today if they know or if they been taught why the war was about in Japan and specially who's fault was that? Japan should stop playing the victim and should admit once and for all that it was the main aggressor during WW2, responsible of more atrocities and genocide, even that of the Nazi Germany.

For those who need a reminder, here is publicly available info for all:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_war_crimes

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanjing_Massacre

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manila_massacre

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_731

Regarding the movie at hand, it's 100% fiction and dramatisation, and should be treated as such.

Not as a political propaganda, like this article intends so.

Offcourse they make billions in profit. The fairs more than trippled in the past 5 years. And now with the tourism boom due to Yen crash, they can jack the prices up as much as possible. Together with the other companies, which it seems there is a price cartel going on.

That's very true that Japanese cars are ugly and without any style (except Lexus), but from reliability point of view, are still one of the best in the world.

Not really. Due to the Yen crash, Japan had suddenly became one of the cheapest country to travel and visit. The food and expenses are at all times low for tourists, so if anything, the mass turism will only increase.

The traditional Japanese companies are runnong in a medieval Caste system, where managers all all knowing God's, promoted not because of skills, but political and based on seniority. So they don't ever consider "listening" to the lower classes.

Of course the foreigners are the main guest. Is a no brainer. After the Yen crash, everything in Japan became very cheap and convenient, including accommodations, food, attractions, etc. While for the locals, including tax paying foreigners, with perm visa or similar, the life is getting harder and harder due to rampant inflation, galopant increase of prices and taxe everywhere, etc.
