This wouldn't be an issue if they insulated their homes. It could cut energy consumption in half.

With inflation hitting the dollar hard, I thought the opposite would happen. I get paid in dollars so this works out well.

Just keep the Olympics in one place and reuse the facilities. They should take it back to Greece, where it originated. They could use the cash influx.

Posted in: Biden vows 'never again' in marking 80 years since Japanese Americans' internment See in context

How ironic. It was a democrat that interned the Japanese Americans and a republican that apologized and compensated them for it. Considering how group oriented democrats are, you'd think Biden would apologize on behalf of his party and recognize the whole ordeal for what it was. A lesson in the dangers of centralization of power. But that wouldn't be very democrat of him.

A DNA / fingerprint database taken at birth would greatly aid criminal detection. But those who support crime would be against it

Or we could implant chips in everybody to track where they're going and what they doing. Only those who support crime would oppose.

Not sure what they're referring to when they say " democracy" because America never was and never will be a democracy. Perhaps they are referring to faith and confidence in our electoral institutions, which the left has worked hard dimish?

Posted in: Torrential rain causes flooding in Kyushu; hospital isolated See in context

If global natural disasters are the end results of man’s insatiable economic activities, then the philosophy, either communist or capitalist, that material wellbeing is good for a man has something seriously wrong for starters.

You're overanalyzing. Global warming is caused by excessive carbon emissions, or so the science says. Emissions that will be greatly reduced once we move to EV and renewable forms of energy. Man does not have to give up a modern lifestyle. We just need to improve energy and waste management.

Posted in: 10 passengers stabbed on Tokyo train; suspect detained See in context

A train packed with lots of other people, with many men, I'm sure, and none of them ganging up on him and dogpiling on him. Just time goes by with him slashing and stabbing all those people. This is one of the things I don't like about Japan. The cowardice of the public even in a crowded place.

You don't "dogpile" a guy with a knife. That's extremely dangerous.

500 million dollars. Would love to have that go to us Earthlings. Maybe help cure cancer or some other diseases. Maybe housing, medicine and food for the poor? Couldn't care less about Mars or any of the other planets.

That's a bit short sighted. Learning more about other planets and potential colonization could solve a lot of the worlds problems. And compared to the overall US GDP, 500 million dollars is pocket change.

You mean, do I want give up my medical privacy and be subject to discrimination based on my medical history? I'm gonna have to give that a resounding no.

-3 ( +11 / -14 )

Posted in: How vaccine passports for global travel will work See in context

“If done correctly, this doesn’t bring an additional level of privacy risk because you’re just putting in a credential status of yes or no,”

These people don't get it. Being forced or compelled to provide any information about your medical history is a violation of privacy laws. This isn't about hackers getting your private information. Having vaccine passports will open the door for all sorts of discrimination.
