There is no explicit ban against racism in both Korea and Japan. Can't apply US and EU norms over there.

But the position was filled by the US government which does recognize racism.

And you think that doesn't happen in Japan, even to the richest man in Japan?

And you think that makes it OK?

Well, Harris is Japanese American, so...

Japanese Americans fought against the Japanese in WW2 so...

A better President would not have sent a Japanese American as an ambassador to Korea. It's same as sending a Palestinian American as an ambassador to Israel.

That would be racist and illegal. Israel would never be so childish as to take issue with something so petty.

Why is the US even considering this? There is no extradition treaty with Japan and the Japanese government would extradite thier citizens to a foreign country. These should face trial in the US.

We do the same thing with Hitler's mustache. Even Jordan couldn't get away with it. Demonizing a mustache is pretty dumb if you ask me.

Death penalty for this animal.

I think a mental institution would be better.

I'll never understand the j police use of warning shots. They are dangerous and can hit bystanders. Simply drawing your gun and a verbal warning should be enough. When you shoot, you to kill. And yes, Im from the states.

I remember they had to plead with people not to buy masks. Now they're threatening people with jail time if they don't wear a mask. This is stupidity at it best. Why would anyone think a mandate is necessary?

Outside the bases, Okinawa has reported only about 150 coronavirus cases. Nationwide, Japan has confirmed 20,000 cases including about 1,000 deaths.

So there's less cases on base than off and local officials are concerned why?

She assaulted a guy who made a mistake and tried to apologize. If the roles were reversed that guy would have been roasted on a spit. That being said, I'm sorry to hear she committed suicide and my thoughts go out to the family. It sucks but hey, this is the cancel culture that's been all the rage these days.

It will be interesting to learn whether assault weapons carrying Russians will storm a government building to protest the lockdown. I imagine posters who gloried in Americans doing that would equally glory in Russians doing that. Correct?

Yes. That's correct. Excersing 1st and 2nd amendment rights are just fine and perfectly normal. Now in Russia, they may actually be breaking the law by doing that but what else can you do in a totalitarian state? When people have no rights, change can only come through violence.

BTW, they weren't carrying assault weapons. Those are illegal in the US.

Posted in: Koike takes tougher stance than Abe on coronavirus See in context

It's like Cuomo vs. Trump. Koike is giving daily online briefings (even in English once a week) and doing a pretty good job by showing the leadership that Abe isn't.

People who say this don't understand how a federal system is supposed to work. Governors and Mayors are the front line leadership and should be making most of the decisions in regards to thier respective areas. The federal governments role is to advise, coordinate, share data and provide material support where needed. To put it simply, Koike and Cuomo should be in the spotlight because their's are the hardest hit regions in thier respective countries. It's thier time to shine.

Posted in: U.S. wasted months before preparing for virus pandemic, reports show See in context

What federations need when national crises strike is a strong centralized power or figure (such as your President is supposed to be) who can step up and unify the nation.

And how is he supposed to unify the nation with a congress that's blaming him for everything that has gone wrong without offering solutions? They should be helping him not hindering him. Instead you have media spreading misinformation and launching constant attacks during the worst national crisis since world war two. You got the democrats holding up the stimulus package over things that have nothing to do with the virus. And ofcourse they are starting another investigation. How is a president supposed to unite the country when the very pillars of society refuse to come together to fight a common enemy? The fact is, no one can unite this country anymore. We are too divided due to partisan bickering and media propaganda.

They think Trump is somehow absolved of blame because in their eyes, centralized power can never be trusted.

Dude. If you're on a basketball team, do you really want other players calling you out and only you for mistakes the entire team made? Responsibility for dealing with this crisis needs to be shared between the president, congress and the governers. And that's as it should be. I might have to leave this here otherwise we'll be going back and forth all day. It's been good debating with you. People need to get a grip. The president is doing the best he can in a time of crisis. We should be doing our best make sure he succeeds. We argue about lessons learned later.

Which outlets are you referring to? I've read many posters claim something they call 'the media' were scaremongering.

They were referring to Fox news who lately have been criticized for downplaying the virus. Something that all the major media outlets did months ago.

@Bigyen

There IS NO ONE PERSON IN CHARGE OF THE US. We are not an alogarchy. Power is shared between the president, congress, the courts and the media even though it is not a government branch. Their job of keeping people informed is essentialto the functioning of government. They have done more harm downplaying this virus than anyone because rely on them for information. This is a time for the media and goverment to come to together to fight this virus. Instead you have partisan bickering and the media spreading misinformation about the president everyday. This has to stop!

And what was the media doing all that time? Oh yes, downplaying the virus and calling Trump a racist for restricting travel from China. What were the democrats doing that whole time? Oh yeah, trying to impeach Trump and distracting his administration with nonsensical accusations. What was the WHO doing that whole time? Oh yeah, spreading Chinese propaganda and misinformation as to the severity of the virus. Oh but it's all on Trump I'm sure. The entire outbreak in US and all the resulting death was the orange man's fault.

Only a downvote? I really would like an answer. Why would anyone who is not Chinese be more worried about being spied on by the CCP than by their own government? I don't get it.

The answer is so painfully obvious. I'm not even going to bother. What is happening to our youth...

Well, that's a shame. I was rhetorically winning that one. Let's talk about Huawei instead....

Yeah. Sure.

I expect the real problem with Zoom is that it's Chinese, and not feeding all of its users' data to US government agencies. They will be forced to comply or pushed out of business in the West.

So it's feeding all of it's users data to the CCP. That's supposed to be better how?

This might be the one good thing to come from the coronavirus. Embracing telework would make commutes faster and less crowded, cut down on traffic, reduce carbon emissions and help with the population issue by allowing women to work from home and take care of the kids. Japanese have excellent work ethic and don't need a boss looking over thier shoulder.
