Nice to see some sponsors pulling out, or in this case not renewing. Sure they'll find some more though. Maybe Wonga, Monsanto, or Rio Tinto are interested.

Wrong type of sexism Mr Blanc. If you thought women were basically property and treated them like dirt because of your religion - then you could come in.

You can protect your eyes with "99.5% UV .cut" clear glasses.

Well yes, I could protect my eyes from UV using clear glasses. I'd still be squinting and very uncomfortable in bright sunshine though.

You have to be a miracle worker to get growth in a decreasing, aging population. Seems to me Japan's only realistic chance was a properly managed immigration policy which should have tried to attract the right people from other Asian countries over the last few decades. Immigrants prop up the birth rate in the US and other places, not patriotism. Japan looks set to pay a price for its insular way of thinking.

Hopefully it goes to number one and raises a lot of money for a really worthy cause

I didn't even know there was still a hit parade. Or his he talking about views on YouTube or something? How much money can one generate from a UK number one these days?

Posted in: Cosmic first: European spacecraft lands on comet See in context

What is the next physical target after that mission? The Alpha Centauri star system, the closest starts to earth, at just over 4 light years, is 1000 times the distance to Pluto, and if a spacecraft traveled at the same speed as New Horizons it would take 9,000 or so years

I think you've underestimated the difficulty of it. Its more like 7000 times distant and would take more like 80,000 years.

Why do we need another Jobs movie anyway? I haven't seen the first one because it has like 25% on Rotten Tomatoes, does it really justify a sequel/remake, or whatever they're doing with it? What's next, TV spin-off?

I'm grateful for the change as I'm sick and tired of that same ad, its drives me crazy, but none at all would be better. I find it preposterous that having paid to watch a film I have to sit through an ad that threatens me with 10 years in jail for something I've no intention of doing. I manage to avoid committing crimes in a whole bunch of places without having to be threatened with being banged up for 10 years.

Jimizo,

The UK economy has started to grow quite well, recovering from Labour govt - just the other week the EU asked us for 1.7 billion pounds extra we're doing so well. Next time you're back in the UK go for a walk around MediaCityUK and you'll find it difficult to argue again that Manchester/Salford is some deprived, forgotten northern city. Maine Road was about 35,000 capacity when closed, their current place is around 50,000. Clearly their strategy was to pull in fans from all over the country and beyond, which as you say they like to mock United for, but they just couldn't do it very well.

this is not good for future employment and the trend has been bad for a while now.

The jury is out on whether or not technology is ultimately a job-killer. The Luddites were wrong about it during the Industrial Revolution. The current wave of automation might be different, it does seem to distort the distribution of wealth excessively. If it does too much we need to change the way wealth is distributed, but going around doing menial jobs that could be easily automated with our current technology, that can't be an option. We, as a species, just can't afford to be that stupid.

@lucabrasi, elizabeth heath

I think you're making a lot of assumptions about his post. In fact he didn't lecture anyone, say homogeneity is his ideal or anything negative or positive. White British is one of the ethinicity classifications used in the UK census. I interpreted what he wrote as "not White British", not as "British but non-white"

Multiple girls, multiple videos... playboy.

A guy who suggests it and is rejected might decide to go ahead and record anyway without consent.

Urgh. More of that all men are the same (except me) white knight stuff.

I think most of these videos are made in the way that strangerland describes. A couple of my ex-girlfriends were more into it than me. If a girl makes multiple videos with different guys what does that make her then?

Apple will receive a commission on every bank transaction and will become "a nice little earner" for the company.

Yes it should be called "Pay Apple". How much cash reserves do Apple have already? Contrast to the genius of bitcoin where if there are transaction fees they go to the peers maintaining the network, and all can get a slice of the pie.

Looks like UKIP-style nasty racism is alive and kicking, on this site at least.

Its these kind of comments that really help UKIP. When you tell people they're racist for wanting some reasonable control over immigration it really emboldens their stance.

@USN

But a team of eleven with Messi' build? That wouldn't work, and I think that's jerseyboy's point.

The great Barca side that beat your lot in the champions league final at Wembley were almost that (Gerard Pique the notable exception), but yeah, I admit small goalkeepers are a major problem. Also defenders on corners and free-kicks, but then again Maya Yoshida is well above 6'' tall and plays regularly in the EPL, so a team of players with Messi's build isn't what Japan actually has.
