****The 1st stealth plane was the F117, one of which was shot down over Bosnia. It seems that when it rains they become visible.

****I like US microbeers. Are they the same as root beer? English microbeers, unlike Japanese jibiiru do vary in flavour according to where they are brewed.

****Oldest . . . monarchy in the world? And I am King David MMM of Wales, and possibly Israel too. It was Edward I who cheated me out of my inheritance. But his dynasty ended on the rubbish heap anyway.

The "May I speak to you'on the trains was the worst. They must all be on different trains now, where the Gaijin are more polite than me. Or perhaps I don't get around as much. I DO remember the lady who gave me her seat in 2008 when I was using a walking stick.

In England I had eggs thrown at me when I was on a canal boat. No damage, but it beats getting rocks thrown at you. Those things can hurt if you don't keep a stiff upper lip and all that.

Wish I could just afford it, not that I would dream of breaking the law, like driving too fast or pushing out of turn, or ... come to think of it what IS legal in Japan? I've been here too long to know (or care ).

****A 248 m(813ft) ship a destroyer? Someone's having us on. Such a ship could easily operate the F35, in which case the ship would have an offensive capability. Who is going to invade Japan anyway? I'm sure the present SDF is quite capabale of repelling any threat-assuming their morale is up to it.

****Greeks only do it 12 times a month ? When I was young it was more like 30 times. But never 28, 29,or 31.Seems the dates didn't suit me. Still it was nice while it lasted. After 30 years of marriage it dropped to 8 times. Still better than the Japanese average though.

****Why doesn't Mitsubishi build a fleet of aircraft carries? I'm sure Abe is planning to do so. The best kind of defence is offence, like D-Day 1944. Take the war to the enemy. So where is the SDF going to take its war?

Posted in: Japan takes step toward having a 'normal' military See in context

****At last count the British Royal Navy had 19 warships, the Japanese 52. The British Army is down to 90000, the Japanese have 150000.The Air Self Defence Force operates more F15s than any other country outside the US. What more do they want?
