@Fredster, thanks for the analysis and I 100% agree.

Quick request to people who cannot spell 'shepherd'. Lots of them on this site. An easy was to remember it is think of herding sheep. A herd of sheep. Shep the sheepdog. Now put shep- and -herd together and Bingo!

Or shorten it to Sea Shepherd to SS, which I know they would absolutely hate, which is why I do it.

Question: Can someone tell me why the SS guys needed to buy such an expensive boat? Surely any fast, manouverable boat would have done? Why did they get a really expensive space age one?

My guess is because they are immature little ****s that wanted to play Batman and look good on their TV show, but I am interested to hear if there is an actual reason for the purchase of such an advanced boat for a protest mission.

Of the news issues which concern her most, Horikita says “the weather.” Not climate or global warming? “No, the weather, because that affects my day-to-day routine. If I have to do an outdoor shoot, and it’s raining, that makes a difference,” she says.

this is an awesome comment. she's not trying to be clever or pretentious - the interviewer asked her a boring and cliched question, and she came back with one of the most original answers Ive heard from any tarento. Good work girl.

LOL.Just watched the video. Thanks gogogo. The Japanese ship gives the Ady Gil a bit of a spray with it`s water cannon for good measure just after the collision

right!? I thought that was pretty funny too. Whale killing - bad. Stupid misguided protestors - worse.

divorce is not a very attractive option in japan given that the laws heavily favor men.

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat???????????? are you serious?? The woman, in 99.99999% of the cases gets custody of the children. This for me would be the only concern if I was divorced. Divorce laws heavily favour the woman in Japan.

Being unloved for ... well... forever, despite being faithful and loving... that can be tough.

where in the story does it say that she was faithful and loving?

Your husband is apathetic? Naoko - take a look at yourself love. You are the one that has remained in a relationship with someone that you hate so much that you stabbed in the neck!

Because if these drugs were legally available and regulated then there would be no need to kill over them. Do people get killed over alcohol or tobacco?

@valmain - I agree that if the drugs were legally available and regulated people wouldnt get killed. But they are not legally available, so what is your point? That drugs should be legalised? Again I agree. But they are not and probably never will be, so by using them, smuggling them, selling the etc, you are contributing to the pain caused by the drug trade.

She doesnt look like the majority of western people. She is comparitavely less attractive. If she looked like most people, nobody would notice or care about her. If she was a 6/10 in looks, about a size 14 with blonde hair and wore high-street fashion but had exactly the same singing voice, nobody would ever have heard of her.

I think the Susan Boyle phenomenon (not Susan Boyle herself, Im sure she is lovely) shows just how stupid and gullible people are and how good the music industry is at parting them and their money.

Exactly. Many of the disillusioned Japanbashers on this site can't be expected to be kind to poor Susan Boyle.

why POOR Susan Boyle? why? I think she is successful and talented, she probably has fair bit of money now too. Are you suggesting people should feel sympathy for her because she is unattractive?

Why should there be no penalties for drugs when dozens of people are murdered every day in the slums of various south american cities to fuel the drug trade?

This is a British national. I assume he visited a doctor at some point in his life and has medical records. If he has been officially diagnosed with a mental disorder the first his family (for letting him sleep on the streets in Poland) and the China (for killing him) should be condemed. But if not, this all just sounds like a bit of an excuse to me. Whenever we get Australians, Brits, US nationals in court in 'less civilised' places like this everyone is up in arms about it and we are all so quick to complain.

Nice to see talent win out over cute. There may be hope after all.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH This isnt talent winning! Its a gimmick! This is all about what she looks like and NOTHING about her talent. She is talented but that isnt the point. She is famous because of the way she looks.

Honestly I find this so sad. Everyone is like, 'oh how cute, and unattractive person that can sing for us, lets all show what great and un-superficial people we are by patronising her relentlessly and talking about how great she is at singing'.

Posted in: Susan Boyle arrives in Japan See in context

This is so embarrassing and has been for a long time now.

She is talented, but not that amazing. The only reason she is where she is now is BECAUSE of her appearance. If she was just a fairly average looking 28 year old from New York or London with the exact same voice, she never would have got through the pre-auditions.

Why is it that when someone is unattractive we call the 'real' and 'down to earth' and act surprised if they have a talent.

While reasonable may debate the death penalty in the case of murder, the death penalty for something as insignificant as drugs is the height of insane inhuman barbarism.

China have said he had enough heroin to kill over 26,000 people, so perhaps it isnt so insane. If the guy is (or pehaps was now) mentally ill, why did his family let him go to China by himself? Its a sad story.

Terrorists are people that use unlawful violence or the threat of unlawful violence as a means to their own political or ideological ends. The Sea Shepherd guys have seen the the IWC not quite give them what they want, and they are now using unlawful violence to try and get what they want.

This would be a funny story if they didnt have kids.

A neighbor told police that he had never heard the couple arguing before Sunday.

Looks like they just bottled it all up, and then had a totally awesome argument.

A girl who does not provide sex is not your girlfriend. Say goodbye to her and find a girl who will. And find means find, not force.

even if she is only 17? are you serious?

Posted in: Student held for hitting girlfriend with rock, and trying to strangle her See in context

If girls do not want to have sex, they shouldn't. But we should not confuse men by calling that a girlfriend.

I am a man, if my girlfriend doesnt want to have sex with me, I am not confused. I would get the message pretty loud and clear. I would feel sad, but would not feel the need to bring violence on her or anyone else.

Posted in: Student held for hitting girlfriend with rock, and trying to strangle her See in context

numbskull - you honestly believe what you have written here, or are you just trying to be provocative? Nobody has to provide sex on demand, even if they are married - you seriously think that a SEVENTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL is obliged to give her boyfriend sex when he wants it?

Why? Is a man supposed to get sex from someone NOT his girlfriend? A girlfriend is for more than just sex, but if she is not providing sex, she is not a girlfriend. If she is acting like one anyway, she is in the way and confusing the man. I cannot even say such a girl is just a friend. More like an enemy. Not that she deserves this sort of treatment but she does not deserve any praise either.

When I first read this I thought it said - Student arrested for throwing SOCKS at girlfriend - too funny.

I hope they let the dad of the girl have 30 minutes or so in a locked room with this guy.

Is there anyone that is actually stupid enough to find this article useful?

Took a day or two to research? I very much doubt that.

The only thing that I guess most people that have ever used facebook wouldnt know is that you can update your status - but the set the privacy on it so that only you can see it, which is one of the saddest things I have ever heard.

I would guess its not the urinating bit that he was arrested for but the exposing his penis on a train platform bit that got him arrested.

Personally I dont think there is much wrong with this. A bit like riding your bike on the pavement - it is illegal but even the police do it.
