How many of you out there would still have your job if caught napping in the middle of it ?

I've been in many meetings where the Japanese staff use it as an opportunity to catch up on some sleep - it is the norm here...

When I did my driving license renewal most of the room was asleep or doing other activities during the 2 hour "education" - they all got their licenses

Posted in: Do you think U.S. President Barack Obama is doing a good job as he finishes his first year in office? See in context

was having this conversation just today. I hear his popularity is plummeting but had he come into power at just about any other time in history it would probably not be the way. He inherited a right mess from the shrub and people are crazy if you think you can turn that round in a year.

However, his new bank tax is a bit dubious...

Posted in: Obama playing banks against taxpayers See in context

I need to read up on this on a more credible publication but...

Banks that have already paid the loans back or did not take them in the first place have to pay? This just sounds wrong!

Let's also not forget that people pay tax on bonuses already and these big payouts are for a very small minority of bank employees...

is it wifi compatible? Most skype phones here require a USB connection which would defeat the object as most PC's have built in cameras these days or much cheaper cameras you can attach through USB.

Yes you can call on Skype on your iPhone using wifi - voice only though.

eBook prices need to come down too - I don't understand why they charge about the same price as for a paper book when there is much less overhead. I know amazon have brought some of their prices down but I don't like their propriety format...

but do they do English? Or other languages for that matter.

I think the developers are missing a trick as these kind of devices are becoming much more popular abroad and the Japanese firms have a much longer history in making these devices.

Mind you they are so complicated the average one comes with manuals that put the London phone book to shame! Please make a simplified version like they do for phones for the young and old.

To be honest I think they are both behaving like school bullies - but I guess that is the usual way when doing business with Japan, just ask the 6 Nations talks etc...

the 3rd reason not to buy is that the international warranties are not worth the paper they are printed on. Maybe that has changed since my experience 9 years ago.

Police say the light for the crosswalk was red at the time

jonswan - the article says that the crosswalk light was read so the pedestrian was Jay walking. I am amazed at the number of pedestrians and cyclists in this country that do not think the lights apply to them. Sadly same goes for drivers - it's a miracle there are not more deaths on the road in this country.

You hit a pedestrian where he/she shouldn't be, panic and car goes where it shouldn't. Not sure how they get him for manslaughter, tragic though it is

they should have paid the full 40.7 bn yen. How this error occurred was just farcical! The price they claimed the price was so far out of tolerance that the system did not pick it up - I hope they sacked whoever was responsible for the QA. First price test you do is zero, then negative then something completely out of tolerance.

Allegedly they had a tolerance check but that had a range - what numskull thought that was a good idea!!!!!!

TSE please go back to QA 101.
