I guess Hanako the elephant is "institutionalized" by now. The concrete is her home. I bet she will miss home if she is released in the jungle.

There is no sympathy whatsoever towards this woman (even though she admitted to her crime) for such a henious crime towards a baby and that too a baby girl. Some people just dont understand the value of what they have. What could we say more? I am speechless.

@SquidBert

I suspect the cyanide thief will ever read posts in JT. Also I am sure you posted with good intentions in mind. I just wanted to hold on the brilliant ideas that will flow one after the other on how lethally the chemical could be used for mass murder. It is always good to know if you read and prevent but a 100 times bad if one reads and performs the crime.

because they don't want to have the cars gummed-up with spilled food and drink one month after the cars are put into service.

Atleast railway officials get a chance to clean the inside of coaches once in a while.

Just like it is good manners to offer your seat when you see a needy in train, it is good manners to offer your food to the hungry. Thats what the manner poster says isn't it?

Who says eating and drinking is not allowed in the train? Read the notice please and share your food with people around you. :-)

Posted in: Chernobyl experts hopeful on Fukushima See in context

I am amazed with J govt's diverse ways to call back on evacuated residents.

City mayor calling back, Chernobyl experts calling back and the list goes on, but the fact remains the same that there are not one, but three reactors still leaking nuclear isotopes everywhere. I am sorry to say I am still not convinced that it is safe to return. I need the J govt to do more inside the reactor and just not beat around the bush.

Please consider people around you before you consider eating or drinking on the train.

That's right people, please share your food and drink with people around you.

Posted in: Tokyo to begin incinerating tsunami debris after test burn ash deemed 'below legal limit' See in context

Instead of burning and releasing smoke or ash, why not pour liquid nitrogen to freeze it and then crush it to powdered form. Finally store it in some kind of radiation proof containers for disposal.

I dont know what I just said makes any sense, but hey atleast it may not contaminate with radioactive ashes.

Posted in: Cabinet OKs bill to cap nuclear reactor life See in context

Sanctions are put upon when nuclear weapons are successfully tested in a controlled fashion. Unfortunately as it may sound, NO SANCTIONS when nuclear plants uncontrollably blasts off? You can beat around the bush how much ever you want and cap reactor life, but you can never cap the consequences of a nuclear disaster. Has the cabinet even considered this?

Posted in: Gov't figures show lowest ever percentage of smokers See in context

All smokers do understand what non-smokers go through due to the very fact that most of these smokers do not prefer travelling in a smoking car of shinkansen.

I hope someone develops lighters that could be lit only when certain frequency signal gets detected. This will control the smoker's habbit to lit their "smoking rods" only in designated areas. Unless ofcourse they do not lit with match sticks or brushing rocks. These days who carries them anyways?

Oh, I am still trying to digest this news.

So its not a crime to dial 110 n number of times and swear at the police? Unless and until you are reported to police by another person its not a crime. Therefore, the moment wife reported it became a crime.

The man fights with wife.

Gets drunk.

Dials 110.

Swears at the Police.

Chotto Matte! What a way to shed off all the frustrations. Karaoke box would have been much better.

Posted in: Man arrested for calling 110 number 109 times to insult police See in context

@Elvensilvan

The man made 109 prank calls and the cops did nothing, even though he was using the landline and cellphone? And the wife called once to report the husband, and the cops go rushing in?

Men are not taken seriously here :-) ...

Posted in: Gov't figures show lowest ever percentage of smokers See in context

The health ministry has also announced plans to decrease the percentage of smokers to 12.2% within 10 years in an attempt to combat cancer.

Hope you reach this target in half that time. Atleast we can breath some clean tobacco free air. Also I hope my friendly neighbor (who smokes in his balcony [even in this weather] and pollutes my bedroom) quits smoking too.
