The Orgy book? :P Just kidding. Started reading it earlier this summer before I'd left to Japan. The thing is, I'm sure I read in the afterward that this was NOT a memoir of the author's life. He'd mentioned his own was "too boring."

I agree that he's lost his touch. Anyone read "After Dark?" That novel wasn't very good.

Do you all live in the USA by the way? Sorry but Bush has got to go and all of his followers. He made a mess of this country. Our economy is slumping, we've become a global embarassment with the Iraq war and not to mention our "intelligent" president.

Of course, as I stated earlier, it's thier deal, thier money. That doesn't mean I can't state my opinion on what I think about it :P

Most of my Jfriends over there live in Tokyo and all of em pretty much don't like the otakus a lot :P. My boyfriend loves foreigners, but he wishes that they'd enjoy Japan for other things than anime.

I wouldn't compare it to hotrods though because in the end, a hotrod has more use/value than a costume.

Add with that $1 quality and service, 15-cent security measures.

A friend of mine hated it over there.

Haha...well go on to my university where 90 percent of the students entered in Japanese class are big anime fans. They lose interest rather quick and the class size reduces to about 8 (last I enrolled, Japanese Level 2, there was only 3 of us). A friend of mine runs a Japanese club at the high school (he's a teacher) and he says he had 50% of them drop out after they learned they wouldn't be watching anime but instead learning about the culture and language. And a BIT of anime. I'm not saying they SHOULDN"T do it or that anime is VERY VERY WRONG. My point was that anime fans generally aren't very serious about the culture and language. They believe that Japan is strictly all about anime and it's sad because Japan has much more to offer. :(. I hope they discover all that when touring Japan. Well we're in agreement in one thing, they're having fun. I wouldn't spend hundreds of dollars on a costume though...

And that last line - "I learn about culture through anime." This is what is somewhat bothersome...anime doesn't accurately portray thier culture any more than Superman portrays American culture. You learn some things, but not a lot! I admit I grew up on lots of anime but the traditional kind of culture you learn from being there. Again, just my opinion

Meh, it's too late at night to be ranting. :P

It's a dorky thing to do and my beef against the anime otakus is that that's thier ONLY motivation to come to Japan. Nothing else. My b/f hates those types.

Just like they're allowed to parade around in costumes as they please, we're all allowed to give our opinions here on this board, whether you agree or not.

Posted in: Beating stress and jet lag See in context

Use it as in don't have all the lights on at 1am or 10pm. Darken the rooms whenever it's your bedtime so it can help you sleep faster.

Last year's trip to Japan gave me a good jet lag for a month after I came back. This year, I got back abotu 3 weeks ago and I managed to beat it by using light effectively (and tons of Tylenol PM sleep pills).

When I go to Japan, I always insist we go out,c hill, etc because if we just hang out in the hotel room, it's zzzz for me. Even sleeping at the right times in Japan, I always wake up real early (6 am).

Another senseless tragedy shakes head. I think what's more important here is why the guy had to risk his life just to avoid a speeding ticket, thus endangering the girl he was with as well. Doesn't matter if it's an underaged girl or not.

That's pretty mean of his critics. The guy is doing his best to get things in order there in Osaka and it's bad enough people are starting to give him hell for his weight. Get real. A lot of Japanese people do not exercise at all. If he started frequenting the gym more, the criticsm would focus on how he spends more time on personal hobbies than office issues. Geh.

Go to Ebay and check the listings yourself. Facts enough.

My point being that the console is not sold because OMG EVERYONE LOVES THE WII AND ITS AWESOME GAMES, but a lot of people are doing it to earn cash.

Oh please, at least you all HAD a swimming pool in your all's schools.

It seems like that girl may suffer paralysis. I've heard of lots of incidents like these and the end result is almost always the victim being paralyzed due to trauma.

The S. Koreans need to calm down already. Just the thought of beheading live pheasants gives everyone the image of a bunch of nasty savages. I don't see Japan doing any kind of protests, whatsoever.

The only ones further hurting the relationship are the S. Koreans.

Posted in: Man arrested for kicking Chihuahua puppy to death in Aichi See in context

Whether anyone hates chihuahuas or not, the poor little creature didn't bark or cause any harm. The dog was causing no incident, bothering no one and didn't deserve to be beaten to death like that. I don't like chihuahuas much either, but I sympathize with the owner because no animal deserves cruel treatment. Hell, there are people who don't like babies because they're loud and annoying - does that mean we can kick em to death?

This sick freak should be put in jail for a LONG time.

Wow, you guys honestly insinuate suicide or neglect? I think it was just a tragic accident here. The mother wasn't feeling well and probably went to the hot springs to relax and maybe feel better. Unfortunately she probably did pass out and drown. My sympathies...
