Quite spendy, though. My horrible lime-green lid from Don Quixote was about 2000 yen. Hopefully it does the job when needed.

A helmet is one of those things that you really shouldn't cheap out on.

Posted in: Miyazaki's latest film 'The Boy and the Heron' wins Golden Globe See in context

This is one of Miyazaki's worst movies IMO. The plot is difficult to follow and makes little sense. And don't make the mistake I did and take kids to this movie... this one is not that great for kids. In addition to the nonsensical plot, their patience will be tested as the pacing is extremely slow, with nothing really happenubg for the first 45min or so.

No remorse, no cooperation? then make him pay fully for his horrible crime.

Are you trying to suggest that remorse or cooperation would be grounds for reducing his punishment?

"I asked him: 'Am I good?'" said Pires. "He told me: 'You're good, but you're slow.'"

Haha. Not an inaccurate description of Pires, but I'm sure it stings to be told that by a kid!

Gonna be tough to change jobs now unless he likes construction work.

Nah, Japan Inc. in general neither asks for references nor checks backgrounds of candidates.

Posted in: Warren Buffett's firm increases stakes in 5 Japanese trading houses See in context

What "Japan Inc" avoids talking about is the fact that Buffett bought all five of the big shoshas, because he doesn't see any significant difference between them. Meanwhile, these shoshas are all competing unnecessarily with each other in the exact same fields, doing the exact same things. Now should Buffett ever start pushing for conglomeration, that would really shake up Japan.

"Physical: 100" caused some controversy by pitting contestants of different genders against each other, prompting questions about whether it was fair. Ultimately, the top five contestants were men.

Had to laugh at this. Where are all the people assert that gender is nothing but a social construct, and canceling those who dares disagree?

Why media articles continue to give such prominent column space to fringe elements that dispute scientific fact is beyond me. Stop pandering to these minority interests and focus on the majority middle. Most people in society are not actually extremists baying for cancellations at the slighest offence.

Maybe because women are not actually oppressed the way you think they are?

Describing the former owner thus is problematic journalism to say the least. Doesn't matter that he was Jewish. Doesn't matter that he was a banker.

Good journalism provides context and colour to a story. Otherwise, it wouldn't be relevant to mention the owner was a Japanese company, or that the Nazi's were involved, or that the decendents of the family are in America. And yet, all those facts are there, to provide context and colour.

When the coronavirus pandemic struck, and restrictions on people's movements made it difficult to travel to the ocean, Kei decided to permanently move to Ichinomiya from Tokyo's Sumida Ward in January 2021.

What? I've been here the whole time, and there were definitely no such restrictions. I AirBnb'd in Ichinomiya in both summesr of 2020 and 2021. Need to stop this sort of dishonest journalism.

There's another perspective, sometimes you contact a Customer Support representative, who has a chip on their shoulder, and wants to feel "powerful", as the Customer, in such situations we inevitably have no solution.

You seem to have not finished your thought. Did you mean to add "... but to yell and harass the customer service staff." ?

These protestors are like the missionaries of 400 years ago in Japan, trying to impose their values under the assumption of moral superiority. Nowadays, people who think that every social injustice, no matter how niche, needs to be solved prior to doing anything. You just need to shake your head and laugh. "Utopia (as defined by me) or nothing!" seems to be their motto.

As for me, I'm very much looking forward to the World Cup!

If you accept the author's premise that Kim is a strategic leader that must be taken seriously, and that his goal is to unify the Korean peninsula, then it should also follow that he would not use nukes, because such actions would only take him further from his goal. Threatening to use nukes, however, can be very effective, as evidenced by this author quaking in his boots.

Posted in: Pretax profits at Japanese firms hit record high in April-June See in context

Wow, a lot of socialists on this board. If there are enough people who don't put up with crap salaries, then the tide will rise. The problem is the apathetic "shoganai" attitude of the worker. If you're underpaid, do something about it. Change jobs. Then market conditions will then dictate that they will need to raise salaries. This exact dynamic has already happened in the video game industry in Japan. But if you have enough workers that stay, then nothing changes.
