Typicall hysterical and irrational action pushed by the more extremist non smokers. I never have seen this amount of smokers outside combinis. And relax it' s not because of a puff that you get a disease.

Now how this person state that if he get a lung cancer is because of second hand smoke ? There are dozens of other risk factors but no he is 100% sure that is because of smokers. In fact in the US where smoking is banned almost everywhere since decades there are no cancer patients caused by second hand smoke. Yea of course.

People worrying about smokers at the entrances while living in metropolies full of air pollution hahaha. Relax you don' t get ill because one smoking at the entrance, second hand smoke could be harmful only after decades of intensive exposure. It' s not an opinion it' s science.

Non smokers complaining for a product they even don' t use. Smoking is legal so don' t be annoying. Just don' t buy it.

Yes 20 years in Tokyo now, permanent resident. If you read my post you’ll see that I didn’t make the numbers up. I cited the figures. Please go to Tabelog yourself and verify before offering baseless “typical non smoker hysteria” comments. Please post with facts and citation yourself if you have anything other than a defensive comment by smoker afraid his nicotine habit may be curtailed. In actual fact you would still be able to smoke just as many cancer sticks a day at home but just not affect orher people’s health if a smoking ban were put in place. So perhaps you are the hysterical one?
If I smoke in a smoking establishment I am bothering nobody. If I do it in a non smoking one, yes I am bothering. It' s called logic. But you have to leave space for everybody. I have been in japan for 15 times and really no way that no smoking establishment are 2 percent no way. I challenge everybody to go there than report to me what they see. The hysterical one are people like you that don' t want to allow some space to be for smokers. If there are two restaurant, one smoking and the other no, why you have to come to the smoking to forbid ???

Now they have to explain me how they calculate 15000. Why not the pollution is the cause ? A totally invented numbers. It is supposed that in state where they banned smoking in public since 18 years ago there should be no death by second hand smoke.
"government survey in 2016 showed some 40 percent of nonsmokers said they have inhaled smoke from others at eateries."
Aaaaah so hard to go in non smoking facilities.

They soon will realize the damages of mass tourism.

What a funny country. "There' s no connection between having a gun and shot somebody and not having a gun and not shooting somebody. You will be a fool and communist to make one. " Cit. of the greatest standing up comedian.

smithinjapan I want to underline the hysteria of majority of non smokers. Try to read all the comments and you can find people complaining about people smoking close to a station or some doors.
Furthermore second hand smoke is so overrated and people think that if they breath a puf from someone smoking while walking they get cancer. So hysterical.

Some logical fallacies are being made by most of the pro-smoking people. Hasty generalizations saying "I know a case where someone smoked and was fine for years..."
Yea like the logic of non smokers that think if someone who doesn' t smoke get cancer is because of the smokers smoking in a smoking area next a station. So scientific.

"protect children and others from passive smoking lung cancer fascist" ???
Why you have to bring children in a smoking restaurant or bar ? Just go to non smoking facilities it' s not hard. And even if they stay for some minutes in a smoking facilities they don' t get ill relax. You have to be exposed for so many years and with a so big quantity of smoke.
Duterte has banned smoking in public places and while moving as well.
Aaaaaaah Duterte what an example of democratic person.

It' s fun how non smokers say that they are for the right of everybody blocking someone to do a thing only because they don' t like. Japan is one of the last country that respect the right to both smokers and no. I am relly wondering why instead of forbid they can' t just go to non smoking facilities.

What a news. Wasting money for Olympic Games instead helping Tohoku population. Than changing their own country and attitude to accomodate bunch of tourist. Good job. The worst are the excited tourists waiting to go to their playground instead of understanding the disgrace.

Japan is one of the last nation that protect the democratic right to smoke like Austria and part of Germany. The total ban is completely anti democratic. Non smokers have so many non smoking options to choose that I really don' t understand where the problem is. If you smoke in a place that allow smoking you are threatening nobody.

Non smokers: hate smoke go in smoking establishment. So smart.

Correlation doesn' t mean cause. This type of article is misleading. There so many other factors that can influence. Nobody is denying the possible risk of mainstream smoke but today if you have something tobacco is the responsible.

This kind of youtubers are a cancer, posting useless video where they act like a 5 years old children. I am more worried about the millions of his followers.

Sad to see all these puritans commenting probably the same people that give smartphone to their 8 years old children without controlling them. I am wondering how a magazine placed in a corner can disturb the peacfull use of a store. Also scared about this mentality to change something for the western tourists coming for the Olympics. Japan years after years becoming a western colony.

It' s funny to see all the non smokers complaining. They think that if something they don' t like it' s necessarily bad and it has to be forbidden. They don' t know the meaning of democracy that allow space also for minority. A big question: why they don' t go to non smoking establishments ?
