Coming to JT and finding a forum of what people are feeling, what all they are going through.

Knowing it may be a while before there is a position open for me to move to Japan. I will wait. Teacher.

Opening up my old Chemistry books and leaving them out. Tracking down the elements as they come up and their effects. Hating the situation and sometimes the people I don't even know. Getting myself to settle down about that.

Eyes front with optimism as a functional barrier. Waiting for the next articles.

"BTW, the Tokyo area will be under water if a tsunami like this went into Tokyo bay. Large parts of Tokyo would be flooded out and if you are in an area where you think you are high enough or far away enough, think again. The Tokyo Metro subway tunnels will actually 'pipe' the tsunami flow into areas where the tsunami would not have reached. All those 'tsunami gates' won't do much when the subway tunnels become water ways. BTW, I have NEVER seen any sort of 'firewall' or tsunami gates in any of the tunnel entrances when they go underground after going over a bridge crossing the many rivers surrounding Tokyo."

Knowbetter, if I may add, the sewer systems and manmade waterways CAN reverse. It was detailed to me that in a place I had lived, the water came bubbling, and in some places, shooting up through the old waterways, viaducts and sewage and drain systems. It does happen and it is bad.

Triage the most important electricity uses, police, hospitals, basic services. Then, last year was pretty hot, so AC and fans and freezers and fridges. I am no expert, so I can only state to have set priorities and keep them.

I agree with cocolocohbv, the information needs to be broadcasted.

leifjapan--Red cross has, over the long term and short term, the tendancy to reroute generosities to other projects. They did with 9-11, (few Americans have forgotten that) other tragedies as well. Find who is actually there and helping. You will be helping the victims with a little extra effort.

Please.

Posted in: What is the best way for civilians in areas not affected by the quake and tsunami to help with the relief effort? See in context

The Marines are helping out. Those that have friends or relatives in the corps there can have blankets and basic supplies sent thru the local recruiting office. Just have marine's information handy. They will ship free if you have that information. Contact your marine first...

Contact local officials to find out what organizations are actually helping with the relief effort, consider donating to those organizations.

I keep a first aid kit. In it is an emergency blanket, bio-hazard bags etc. It is all in a fanny pack. I keep about two days supply of water, 3 sleeping bags, and a tent that sleeps 3 comfortably.

I knew a co-worker who was with the local volunteer ambulance crew in his community. He was very frank, mentioned that half of the runs were suicides. Japan is not alone.

I think I would like an interpretation on her expression. Correct me if I am wrong but it seems that it may be part concentration, part OMG my hair is so HEAVY. Did they put sticks in there to keep anything living from running away?

"Pass laws that make age and sex disrimination punishable to prevent companies from blocking older and transition workers."

tkoind2 and Dentshop...

Agreed, I have heard, correct me if I am wrong, Canada no longer will support a mandatory retirement age.

I like experienced workers. I really believe linking "enthusiastic" and "energetic" with any particular age group is illadvised and impractical.

I want wise. I want people smart and street savvy. I want experts, people in their field that know more than I do. I'm not really going to be able to tell who is who and what qualities from an interview. I know a great group of men, and although they are of similar ages it's not the youngest that are the "best", the best indicator for me is time.

The focus on age just wastes my time. Enthusiastic and enegertic gets old fast, too.

Could it be possible fostering darehood might lead to an appreciation of hot/spicy?

Taking the current economic situation out on the local or national governments makes as much sense as taking out crime wave trends on the police. In other words, it doesn't make sense.
