Diagonalslip, 一 can too easily be modified to 二 or 三 in legal documents or currency, so the more complex character 壱 is often used - same meaning and pronunciation but impossible to alter.

thank you!!!!!

Posted in: Japan to build anti-tourist fence at another Mount Fuji viewpoint See in context

GuruMickToday  07:26 am JST

Anyone remember "Christo ", a European post modernist artist whose claim to fame was engulfing various buildings {eg. Eifel Tower } , coastal sea scapes {part of Sydney Harbour } and even the German Parliament '

with the type of material being used to block Fuji.

I can see his greatest work, one that will stand the test of time and be a monument to all that post modernism means.........COVER ALL OF MOUNT FUJI !!!

exactly what came to mind Mick.... Christo's departed this realm however.

'they' could always follow their mantra of "if in doubt lay concrete" and surround the entire mountain with concrete barriers as per Fukushima..... stymie those pesky tourists whilst supplying plenty of pork for the usual suspects! (^_-)

Posted in: Foreign woman walks into bus at Tokyo’s Shibuya Scramble intersection See in context

interestingly, at the Scramble, a couple of years ago or so, 'they' introduced the recorded message that 'the signal has turned blue (sic)'.... so now people don't even have to tear their eyes from their window-on-the-world long enough even to check the lights (and why so many people trust the lights rather than checking out the traffic activity is always gobsmacking to me)... have been thinking, whenevr I'm there, that this is an accident waiting to happen. and that's only taking into consideration normal traffic conditions/behaviour... then there are the occasional nutters who drive through crowded intersecttions on purpose! personally, I prefer to take responsibility for myself in such situations....

not apropos childbirth, but..... " people basically pay 10 to 30 percent of medical costs "

who pays 10%. anyone know or have experience of same? used to be that retirees (or maybe those who hit 70) paid that, but they upped that to 20% some years back. just wondering....

I don't think there are many 70 years having babies sir.

How much did you pay for your children's births, if not 10%-30%?

seems you didn't read what I wrote....

I suppose I'm not the only one never to have heard of her. wedding dresses a niche of clothing design, true, so I also suppose that Japanese women know of her, I'll ask around.

anyway... I read the linked interview..... extremely interesting and impressive. and... Kenzo moved to Paris in 1964, paving the way for the likes of Issey Miyake and Yohji Yamamoto (who reaped the fame and glory).... yet, Katsura Yumi-sama was there from 1960!!!! a pioneer in many ways.....

not as "environmentally friendly" as doing away with the whole ever-escalating 'let's out-spectacle all other spectacles' shooting match.... but then, that'd derail the gravy train wouldn't it.

Posted in: Paris will become a no-fly zone to safeguard its wildly ambitious Olympic opening ceremony See in context

At least one French military AWACS surveillance aircraft will police the skies during the Olympics, using its powerful radar to watch for any potential airborne threats, the French AWACS squadron's commander previously told The Associated Press. Other military aircraft can be scrambled to intercept any non-authorized flights that enter restricted Olympic airspace.

headline shoul perhaps have read:

"Paris will be put on a war footing to safeguard its wildly ambitious Olympic opening ceremony"

....in other words they are selling at normal price? if so, why would someone in Japan buy from a tourist? seems to be no advantage. and how would/do tourists connect with Japanese would-be buyers I wonder. and.... though usually, articles here include LOTS of statistics, there are none here. how much of this 'fraud' is happening, at what cost to the Ji-Gov? and will the added bureaucratic costs involved in checks at airports and etc and etc recoup whatever the 'defrauded' sum may be? all sounds very weird.
