Posted in: Godzilla: From radioactive colossus to unlikely climate hero See in context

Interestingly enough, the climate change activists in the new movie are the villains, just like in real life.

Tequila. She seems more like a gin person, but for him, I think retirement should include tequila.

It's not just Japan; the Catholic Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona, Arizona also accepts electronic payments for the chance to light prayer candles. I bet a lot of other places do as well.

Posted in: 13 same-sex couples file suits for marriage equality in Japan See in context

I know a lawyer in the US who, even though he tries to appear as a staunch Mormon, was pretty happy when same-sex marriages were legalized. Said something like gay couples are unstable, and the jae firms are going to make a killing on gay divorces....

I guess if it's for money, it's okay...?

Posted in: Man arrested for attempting to kill 15-year-old girl at her request See in context

The bright side of the story is that she changed her mind, and hopefully she'll get the help that she needs. I also hope that the man involved can get things sorted, because he sounds mentally ill as well.

I just want to say that I'm happy for him as Araiso and I hope he finds even more success and happiness in that role.

Posted in: Baby with umbilical cord attached found in convenience store toilet See in context

The extremity of the situation suggests that the mother is mentally ill. She left the child in a place where it would be found quickly, which was a blessing. I hope the other facts can be ascertained, the baby be placed in a kind and supportive home, and if the mother is found, I hope she can get the help, aid, and assistance she needs to prevent this from happening again.

I disagree that any of these issues overshadowed the triumphs of Tochinoshin, Mitakeumi, or Takakeisho. If you don't care about or follow Sumo, the scandals might have been more to your attention, but to us fans, the victories were far more noteworthy.

Commanteer, I agree, ditch Imagine. I hate that song. I will say this, though: at least the guy is out there, trying to make a difference. And talking that man down is commendable.

There is no point in arresting them unless they are going to provide psychiatric care.

First time I saw that show in 1992, I couldn't stop laughing. Maruko and her grandpa were the best friends in the universe, and I wish the best for Momoko-san's family.

Posted in: Bowing to Trump, NFL will require players to stand for anthem See in context

I think the real problem is that the NFL gets paid by the government for the display of nationalism. Players not standing is apparently a breach of contract, so ultimately, this whole thing boils down to money, not patriotism.

I don't agree with or support state-mandated patriotism (and neither does the US Supreme Court), and feel that those that knelt were no less patriotic than those that didn't.

Mental health needs to be taken far more seriously in Japan and the US. Ultimately, these two are responsible for what they chose to do, but maybe they could have been helped.

At the rate my children outgrow their clothing, they're lucky I don't just clothe them in potato sacks. There's no way is drop ¥80,000 for a single-use garment that won't fit in a few months.
