Pearl Harbor: 75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor attack is upon us

It is truly sad that our civilian and military leadership let down our courageous fighting forces at Pearl Harbor. People around the world realized that an attack was imminent. Newspapers were publishing that an attack was coming.

Many Americans who realize this was not a sneak attack will fall back to other positions, such as that we did not KNOW that Japanese would attack Pearl Harbor. Strange. The Secret orders attached below make clear that we prepared for an attack on California, just one week before the actual attack.

Checking the globe, I do not know the wise naval routes to travel from Japan to attack Pearl Harbor or San Francisco, but direct sailing is about 3,800 miles to PH, and about 5,000 miles to SF. So we literally prepared for an attack on California, and left Hawaii (and Philippines) flatfooted.

Next fallback is that Japan was slightly late on the Declaration of War. Who cares? We KNEW an attack was imminent. Period. There is no way around this fact.

Thats amazing. Right after that first paragraph below, check out the next paragraph; "Lets see how many people will make outrageous comments on internet boards citing non-existent paragraphs from non-existent reports right around 2016"....

What's amazing is so many ignorants just making outrageous comments are still around 2016. You just simply type as "The United States desired that Japan commit the first overt" or "It is desired that Japan commit the first overt act" and google search.

https://books.google.co.jp/books?id=zA50CQAAQBAJ&pg=PT391&lpg=PT391&dq=It+is+desired+that+Japan+commit+the+first+overt+act+if+hostilities+cannot+be+avoided&source=bl&ots=V1vQz11EQW&sig=Xi7GvT5rmlE04W9yfB88Q5FVHFg&hl=ja&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiaw_Dolt3QAhUDObwKHQ2eBAgQ6AEIKTAC#v=onepage&q=It%20is%20desired%20that%20Japan%20commit%20the%20first%20overt%20act%20if%20hostilities%20cannot%20be%20avoided&f=false

The more one studies the events leading to the "sneak attack" on Pearl Harbor, the more one realizes that our people who died there, were sacrificial lambs to bait Japan, after we prodded and poked and strangled Japan.

We had physically attacked Japanese for years -- years -- and probably 99.999% of Americans do not realize we were already killing Japanese before they struck back. Things they do not teach us in school.

Check out the first paragraph in the Secret orders below: "It is desired that Japan commit the first overt act if hostilities cannot be avoided."

The US was making no moves whatsoever to avoid hostilities. We were practically demanding that Japan attack us. Sacrifical lambs. A day that will live in ironic infamy.

There won't be any "progress" until Japan hands over billions of dollars to Russia. Then Russia will make an unimpressive offer leading to Japan handing over billions more.

Abe would lose all the supports in such case. ain't gonna happen.

The more we act together, the more broadly we develop our ties in all spheres without exclusion searching for a balance of interests of Russia and Japan ... the easier it will be for us to solve the most difficult problems,” he said.

Remember Sakhalin 2 ? Japanese enterprise knows how risky it is to trust Russians? Those 2 smaller islands are must, have never been included in the definition of Southern Kurils at any one point in history. What Russia is so stupid is to keep threatening Japan by force. Return 2 bigger islands for free first, that would change fundermentals of the relation between 2 countries.

Opportunistic aggresion, Aggresion through opium dependence, Aggression by just threat, all the same.

Coalition with Germany made Japan indirectly war with USSR? BS.

Who had been providing Guns , Cannons, Fighter Jets, other heavy weapons to Republic of China from the behind when Tripartite Pact was signed?

And what Japanese-Soviet Newtrality Treaty a.k.a Non-Aggression Pact (which Soviet unilaterally denounced later) was concluded in 1941 for ?

No need to refer to actual history if you don't know, just say We rule the world.

if you dont know - Japan was aggressor and Russia captured these islands back. Now, Russia was kind enough to propose splitting it but Japan was too greedy and never signed the agreement., hence nothing was ever concluded. The ultra right wing factions in JP cant cope with giving something to Russia, although Russia did propose mutual development few times already...

Excuse me? There had been absolutely no disputes on these 4 islands betwen Japan and Russia at all until Russia took them by force. How can you read your linked reference to come up with such statements?

Japn was under much stonger influence of US than it is now. Things were not such plain and simple. Its not good idea that you sum up things like that without refering to, say, Threat of Dulles

wtfjapan

Russians / Soviets were far from cowardly or comical! please keep you ignorant insults to yourself. You may want to study a bit more about WW2 history , it was far bigger than just the Pacific war. Oh and the Pacific war wasn't started by the attack on pearl harbor, it was started by the 1937 cowardly invasion of China by the IJA!

All countries during WW2 WERE COWARD Not to mention Russia WAS Coward Invader, even US DID Coward First attacks to Germans

The US is not in Japan to defend Japan, the US is in Japan to assure Asia that Japan will not invade Asia again.

If Japan is to pay any more than now, it would mean Japan covers salaries of US troops in Japan. That makes them Japan's mercenary trrops who exist only for Japan. Japan would demand complete authoriy of command then over mercenaries.

Doesn't matter how YOU see them, my friend. They are Russian, plain and simple.

Lol. can't help thinking its your train of thought that is just plain and simple. You stick yourself too much to so called effective control. The case is not that plain and simple

Suggest you read again the definition of uti possidetis and how it was actually refered to at Int'l Court like the case of the Minquiers & the Ecrehous

At the same time, try to think how, then, the cases of Northen Territories and Takeshima cannot be simply equated to the Senkaku case.

Japan, like you are doing, shot itself in the foot by refusing the islands. But by your own logic, if the islands are Japanese, why did they refuse?

When the hell did Japan refuse islands?

Gorbachev,Yeltsin,Putin all historical Russian presidents have been admitted that There's been the dispute over islands. Especially between Hashimoto&Yeltin, the deal was almost closed where he was ready to return not only 2 but 4 islands altogether** back to Japan asking for economic cooperatoins.

Who is? Did Abe say that? in what kind of context? I haven't seen nor heard it. or Is it just AFP who added.

Other Trump comments, suggesting that Japan might want to consider developing nuclear weapons to combat threats from North Korea, also drew criticism.

Why not Japan just follow his suggestion. Good idea.

@flowers

China did not agree to take the case to ICJ anyway in the first place. That’s given. PCA is a different organization from UN and UN has nothing to do with PCA. Yes. So?

Arbitral tribunal itself is not PCA. It is not Permanet Arbitral Tribunal It just happened to be set at PCA in Hague for this case.

Arbitral tribunal is formally listed up under Article 287 UNCLOS as one of 4 proper procedures for the settlement of disputes concerning the interpretation or application of UNCLOS which PRC ratified, which makes its arbitration ruling valid and legit as far as UNCLOS and the related disputes are concerned.

And UNCLOS is valid international law ratified at UNConventionLOS which was backed up by UN dipromatic conferences.

His statement just confused the related parties and world media and does really prove Ban Ki-moon one of the worst, useless SG of UN.

He can fine-tune whatever he likes depending on the situation. Look

a U.N.-backed tribunal,” the UN never backed the tribunal, perhaps this is intentional to deceive the public

China is a signatory country of UNConventionLOS which was adopted by UNConferenceLOS that were held by UN as one of UN diplomatic conferences.

Both ITLOS and Arbitral Tribunal are formally designated as valid courts in article 287, UNCLOS, that means officially valid world courts.

But as they have done nothing illegal re the Senkaku

If you're talking about innocent passage, China's behavior is in quite grey almost black area.

Passage is innocent so long as it is not prejudicial to the peace, good order or security of the coastal State. Such passage shall take place in conformity with this Convention and with other rules of international law.

Remember the incident of hostile action taken 1/2013 by Chinese freegate 522 locked Japanese escourt vessel with its FCS radar? That happened not just once.

According to the IMF Myanmar is the world's fastest growing economy. Investing there doesn't seem like a bad option to me and am pretty sure Japan aren't the first/only ones to do that anyway.

Agreed. 800bio Yen is not small amount but those are not simple giveaway. One cannot judge good or bad without knowing the break-down by aid, loan, investments, and by public and private, into the country like Myanmar and Phillipines.

At least Duterte clearly showed historical contributions made by Japan unlike China and SKorea. So did Africa. Hope Myanmar will do so too.

Economic Cooperation is another form of stimulus through routes of foreign lands rather than saturated domestic field and one way to earn better income over foreign ccy reserves(if taking the form of non-JPY) rather than simply purchasing US Treasury.

So did Africa. Hope Myanmar will do so too.
