They've been occuring for longer than humans have existed - they are part of nature and will never stop

Question is, why are they getting more often and more intense? I read somewhere that it's 6 times more than last year. When will it stop? Or will it be leading to wider dissaster? How about volcanic eruptions? Is it related? Is one big event causing these? There are some answers out there, but how can we believe anything they say.

The only part of the christmas Japan celebrates is the shopping. Businesses think earlier they start, more money they're going to make.

Talking on the cell phone annoys people, just like smoke can annoy people. Just don't do it.

Not a good example, second hand smoke can kill you. Someone taking emergency call while on the train should not bother anyone. Just don't do it? Noone can stop me taking emergency call, no matter where I am.

american_bengoshi, we're not living in a courtroom. There are exceptions. Noone should think twice to answer their calls, as long as it takes, if they are dealing with an emergency situation, no matter where they are. The old fart's actions in sarahsuz25's story can't be justified. There are more important things in life than keeping quiet in the trains, like dealing with emergency situation.

I'm glad someone had the courage to do something about the rude people in busses and trains who can't tolerate little bit of noise. Sometimes I feel like spraying them with something too.

I ma no way saying heroin or crack can be good for anyone, but it is time to re-asses the damage alcohol vs other drugs are causing, not just to one's health, but to the society. You don't want to see people high on drugs? I'm sure they don't puke as much as drunkers do.

Agreed 100%. All my old relatives have problem with Alcohol, none of them has drug problems. Most people I know have died either direct, or indirect effect of alcohol and cigs. Dr Hofman, the inventor of LSD lived to see 103. Alcohol kills anyone. Drugs only worsen the lives of careless, nothing to loose kind of people.

ReikiZen,

I am not condoning killing dolphins or whales but I also respect other cultures and what they choose for their diet.

Understood, but issue is more than what they chose to eat, it's more like some minority of fisherman running these animals to the cove for selling them to aquariums and such. The ones that didnt' seel is not released back, but hacked to pieces and sold under false packaging as whale meat, forced into schoolchildren. It's just these fisherman trying to make more money on these innocent animals. They make sometimes upto $150.000 off a single dolphin, but greedy enough to heck the rest to pieces for just little more money.

How is putting this out in the open going to change anything!

It will change everything. Millions are aware of this horrible practice because of this documentary. How about the KobeKids post about the highschool kids reactions? Future is bright.

It is only going to anger the Japanese and put them on the defensive.

I deeply believe Japanese public will not be angered when seeing Cove. They will be the ones to put a stop to this. It's the yakuza fisherman that will be on the defensive, will say it's their culture and won't even care if they are poisioning people or themselves.

Food health & safety should be put above all else and not as a means for profit which is unforgivable.

Yes, exactely! There is nothing more important than health of our children. If the meat contains mercury, end of the story.

Why should Japan have anything more than say a 2% opinion about this.

Exactely!! 2% of the worlds population consuming 1/3rd of all fish. We'll see Japan's real face when they will ignore all the calls for limiting their tuna catch and collapsing of tuna. Anyone wanna bet on it?

no need for asinine arguments blaming whales for dwindling fish stocks.

When we were one billion, fishing was limited to coastal waters, and there were planty. When we are 6 billion now, and have gps enabled, fish finding super boats, run by big companies for pure profit, it's not hard to see that fish have no change, the stocks will dwindle before they fall comletely.

You're probably not familiar with this issue, but just to inform you and maybe others, Japanese whaling has nothing to do with feeding hungry people. There are 460tons of meat in frozen stocks, last whale restaurant in tokyo went out of business, noone wants it anymore.

if whaling is totally prohibited ,whales will just simply eating all the food of the sea and multiply themselves into greater and greater number every year...

That's one of the thing Japanese "research" is trying to prove, with no success. They said Minke whales eat amazing quantities of small fish, but all the thousands they catch, proved one thing, they eat cryll.

why aren't you barking at Korea and China for eating dogs?

We are, but it is much harder to protest against something that's happening in their soil, for the animal they farm. But surely, there are people signing petitions about that too, just not the topic here.

Maybe they can start a profitable whale watching industry? I heard it's thriving multi million $ industry. They'd still be making money on whales. Everyone would be happy!!

Maybe you think you should rule the whole world and they should all be just like you???

Not at all, I've been in this country for many years because I appreciate the uniqueness of the culture and the way they treat each other. Manners and honesty, just can't be compared to any other country. Especially when it comes with no fear of god or hell, one can do noting but admire.

that probably means your point of view is wrong then if you have to use force to get people to behave and think the way you want them to.

It just means that I don't support the whaling and wishing for it to stop. Seasheperds actions can be better described as hastlement than violence. Their goal is to disrupt whaling, not hurting whalers. Latest news shows the length whalers would go to protect their ways. It shows that they are at least as bad as Seasheperd, when it comes to resorting to violence.

Posted in: Do you support Sea Shepherd's tactics against Japanese whalers? See in context

Yes, only because I can't think of any other way that this will stop. I would be glad if greenpeace's politic approach has worked or if there's a hope that way. Unfortunately there's no way Japanese whalers will stop. It's more like a issue with their pride. Unfortunately Seasheperd is the only hope at the moment. Interrupting the hunt and make it unprofitable. I can only hope noone gets hurt. Japanese always say "resepect our culture and leave us alone." but they fail to see that there are so many people in the world, thinking whales are godly creatures. Any other nation would feel that it doesn't worth pissing this many people off, just because some old people wants to have variety in their dishes. But not Japan, they are too proud.

Kinniku,

people have to learn to let other people live their lives as they wish and worship

Very True. I believe common person knows how to do that. Fanatics have different agenda though. They want to involve common person with their cause, and so far, they are succeeding. There are more people in both religions, hateful to each other as a result of this.
