I understand you points, but where does it stop. Accounting industry, Legal, police, engineers fields. Can any industry say we're not going to hire women for fear of them quitting. Maybe the medical field needs to look into ways to helping female or male doctors who have families.

Not only do the women of Japan need to speak up and have some sort of Woman's Movement, but so to do the men of Japan - they need to stop thinking work is the most important thing. Family should ALWAYS come first ... for both men and women.
When we are all gone from this world, who is going to remember us - our work or our families????????

This is absolutely disgusting. This company must have been paid by the school in the Japan medical society. There should be NO justification for this, this is discrimination plain and simple. Were do we draw the line, justifying not giving women the right to vote, Hispanics test scores lowered, LGBT not allowed to go to school.
THIS IS DISCRIMINATION AND SHOULD NOT BE JUSTIFIED OR TOLERATED AT ALL!!!

What about the intangible losses, like decreased worker productivity and second hand smoke related costs.

Sarcasm alert
I know we should just limit women in all educational fields in colleges, as it would just be a waste of time. Heck why start at university level, little girls should not go to school at all, they should just stay at home and learn how to be doting wives/mother.

Someone needs to go to jail (for a long time), Japan needs to send out a message that this will not be tolerated. If nothing happens, Japan government is sending out the message this type of behavior is tolerated.
The women in Japan need to have some sort of womens revolution.

In a country that many homes still have a fax machine.... This doesn't surprise me that Japanese companies can be so backwards = video telephones??? There are many third party vendors you can use on your laptop, plus you don't need a video during conference calls, just voice. It a wonder how Japan used to be so innovative what happened Japan???

I understand there is some connection between being married and having kids. But what this article is clearly lacking is that it doesn't actually take a marriage to produce kids. Another argument could be made that people are just living together and not getting married (and may have kids.)

evian1, I guess you haven't spent time in Japan during the summer - only to have the sun set and come home in darkness ... at 6:30pm. Tell me why we can't have the clock moved forward in Japan by an hour.

Todd Topolski, thans for the science lesson. Do you live in Japan? If you did you would understand that it would be nice to NOT have the sun rise at 4:30am and set at 6:30pm in the summer. I would welcome Japan to change by two time zones permanently. What a waste of two hours of sunlight (assuming most people wake up around 6:30am).

I'm calling BS on the old man. He is just using the "foreigner" card to garner sympathy. He was probably just lazy and thought that his excuse might be plausible in the ear of his superiors.

Strangerland:
I've been to many, many onsen (I go 2-3 times a year with the family), and my tattoos have never been an issue.
Same here, I probably go about 5-10 times a year, and only once have I had someone say something to me (a fellow bather, not an employee.)
Now Public pools are completely different, they are very strict and the employees will get you every time.
Yubaru':
Must have gone to onsens where Yak's are allowed too.
Nope, all the ones I have been to have been the hotel onsen or road side onsen in the country.

This is not a good idea to change either symbols. If travelers all over can't do a little research before they visit a foreign country then they should just stay at home, where everything is easy for them.
These symbols are one of the reasons that make a country unique and if you constantly dumb down ones culture to cater to foreigners, then what would be the point to travel - everytting would just be the same.

So all of them are going ?*
Yes, all of them. The article should be updated to state that Gap is pulling the Old Navy brand out of Japan completely by the end of this year.
That sucks, I liked Old Navy, I thought they had a good niche between (slightly overpriced) Gap and (poor quality) Uniglo.

The video was terrible, it only interviews young 20 something viewpoints. Why not get a broader scope of age and marriage status. Very few of us think the same way as we did in our 20's.

@yabits Keep in mind this was a neighborhood where they averaged more than 1 911 call a day, so there was a lot of stuff going on in that neighborhood to be suspicious of. Then go listen/read the transcripts of the GZ call. It appears the GZ was calmly in his his car, watching TM, TM started walking towards GZ and then all of the sudden started to run (this is also collaborated by RJ) and it was until than that GZ got out of his car and chased him (sounded like for only about 10-15 seconds) and then stopped.
If TM was suspicious of this person, why would he approach - what do you teach your kids if a bad person if near them - walk the other way and get inside somewhere - not to get closet to them.
